Rimini hosts a huge, 2,000 m² winter village with two covered ice skating rinks. Children will also find an area set aside just for them with ice skating instructors, so that they can learn to take their first “steps” on the ice.

The most popular event of the holiday season is created with the backdrop of the sea in winter. Expert artists magically shape and mould the sand that transforms into a Christian nativity scene. The holy representation includes life-size figures and traditional landscapes and images; the amazing sand sculptures are skilfully created with extremely expressive details.

The winter event for central Italy that draws hundreds of Christmas market enthusiasts thanks to original gift ideas and sophisticated decorations that create a charming atmosphere to delight young and old alike. There are plenty of traditional shows including pipers, Christmas music and Father Christmas’s page 2

The gastronomy focuses on the rediscovery of traditional local dishes and the restaurants, inns and taverns serve guests “Advent Dishes”. It is possible to savour local food even in the welcoming atmosphere of the “Manger”, a spacious covered and heated stand inside the fair area.

Monumental mechanical Nativity Scene in the grottos For the first year, the grottoes carved out of tufa and sandstone rock under Mount Giove, where the ancient city of Sant’Arcangelo di Romagna stands, host one of the largest mechanical nativity scenes in Italy. A total of 40 grottoes, along an underground path that is about 250 metres long, host biblical scenes from the Old and New Testament with 1metre high handmade figures, fitted with mechanisms that make them move.

costume and other artisans, such as blacksmiths, carpenters, inn owners, washer women and shepherds with their flock realize the traditional nativity scene, bringing to life popular traditions and attracting children and adults alike.

About thirty episodes are represented in as many scenic settings along a path that winds its way through the streets of the town and culminates with the nativity scene at the foot of the imposing Malatesta Fortress. Over 150 people dressed in period costume help to bring scenes from daily life in ancient Galilee back to life as though in a huge open-air theatre, whilst bright and colourful stands line the streets of the mediaeval borough.
