f you’re looking for a stereotypical librarian, that’s not Jenn Carson. The manager of the L.P. Fisher Public Library in Woodstock loves literature and promotes literacy, but she’s also always on the go as a yoga teacher, an author, an artist, a blogger, a martial artist, an innovator, a mother of two, and simply a mover and shaker. In fact, she was officially named a 2019 Mover and Shaker Award winner by Library Journal, North America’s best-known library magazine. The journal recognized Carson’s physical literacy initiative, which included, among other things, com-

oodstock golfing legend and Sports Wall of Famer Lou Beatty recruited Robert James Burnett as the new Woodstock Golf Club Professional in 1987. Known as “Robbie” to everyone, Burnett died on Nov. 23, 32 years after arriving in Woodstock. Club members, friends and the community reflect on the man, who for more than three decades, was the face of Woodstock’s golf and curling club. “The heartbeat of the operation,” was how club President Jeff Clowes de-

scribed Burnett. At the time of his death, Burnett, as club manager of both golf and curling, was the person to contact for any and all club business. Best friend Kirk Calhoun says one of Burnett’s favourite club-related activities involved instructing children on the finer points of golf, every Wednesday morning. “Robbie loved the kids. He let his guard down around them and made them laugh,” said CalContinued on page 2
