Store proprietor Nancy Rosner is a case in point. “For as long as I can remember, I have loved dollhouses and all of the tiny things that go in them,” she says. Now, Nancy has brought the appeal of miniatures, her preference for the modern style, and her creative skills in furniture making and interior design to Urban Dollhouse. Step into a fantasy world that ignites the imagination. The shop is a trove for the collector and an inspiration for the beginner. Delight in the stylish décor for every tiny room. Notice the level of detail, from artwork to rugs, tiny plants and flower vases, and the very cute miniature food items. Children especially love the iced cupcakes on small platters. So real! Of course, you’ll find dollhouses, too, in many styles and price ranges, also specialty toys, holiday and birthday gifts, and novelty items. Dr. Oxana Popescu, a board-certified internist, is a practitioner in the art and humanity of medicine. As an internist, she employs the skills she learned in her native Romania, refining those abilities here in the U.S. in emergency rooms, urgent care facilities, medical offices, and hospitals in New York City and Westchester. “Nothing is unknown to me,” she says of her knowledge and understanding of the internist’s role in medical practice. In her private moments, Dr. Popescu is an artist and musician. Her progression to aesthetic medicine is a natural extension of that creativity. n the age of online purveyors and discount merchandisers, high-quality men’s tailoring is all but gone — but not quite. Nigel’s, one of the newest and most welcome additions to downtown Hastings, has revived the concept of the well-dressed man — the look that immediately says, “This man knows fabric; this man understands fit; this man recognizes quality.” Presiding over Nigel’s is Ali Khatami, an alumnus of Pincus Brothers-Maxwell, one of the venerable names in men’s tailored clothing, and of HickeyFreeman, the American suit manufacturer. Now, with his own brand called “Nigel’s Drape,” modeled after Savile Row suits and other iconic English city and country garments, but with a casual American sensibility, Khatami is making the collection available at his own retail store in Hastings as well as through a wholesale division for top-of-the-line haberdashers across the country. At Nigel’s, the tailored man can purchase readymade or made-to-measure bespoke suits and outerwear, accented by curated accessories, including broadcloth shirts, cashmere sweaters made from the finest yarns, Italian-made jeans and trousers, bench-made shoes, and seven-fold silk ties and pocket squares. Womenswear, too. “Why shouldn’t a woman enjoy the luxury of suits and coats made from menswear cloth?” Khatami observes. “Why can’t a tailored woman bask in the elegance of the finest cashmere sweaters and accessories?” At Nigel’s, she can. “There is always a market for quality,” Khatami says. “There is a soul in well-made clothing.” Hours: Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
