The City of Wagga Wagga Seniors Festival is a 10-day long celebration, designed to thank, celebrate and recognise older people for the role they play and the contributions they make to our community. Events such as these ensure the City of Wagga Wagga continues to be a liveable community – one where residents both young and old have access to, and can participate in, activities and events that assist with their ongoing health, wellbeing and happiness. The City of Wagga Wagga is proud to fund and support local festivities that promote positive attitudes towards older people. The festival is made possible through the various collaborative partnerships formed each year to deliver a diverse program of activities and events that assist individuals to remain active, healthy and connected. FRIDAY 3 MARCH MARRAMBIDYA WETLAND WANDER

Transformed from disused treatment ponds, the wetland now provides habitat for migratory and non-migratory birds, water insects, frogs, fish, reptiles and mammals such as the locally threatened Squirrel Glider. Take part in a guided stroll around 2km of walking tracks and learn how the site has evolved to become Wagga’s newest eco-attraction. Note: Participants are required to wear fully enclosed footwear. WALKING TOUR OF MATES GULLY FARM

Paul Nolte and Marcia McCoy welcome food adventurers to their picturesque Mates Gully Farm located near Tarcutta in the heart of the Riverina. Join Paul as he takes you on a relaxed walk around their farm and learn how they grow fresh organic produce all year round. The tour will conclude with morning tea and the opportunity to sample mouth-watering dried fruits, pickles and olives. More than 340,000 Australians are living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for up to 70 per cent of all cases. Unlike age and genetics, certain health and lifestyle factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease risk may be controlled. Join Dr Syed Haris Omar, as he provides an insightful overview on how olive compounds can help inhibit the processes thought to cause the early progression of Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss. Unearth Australia’s fascinating military history at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Wagga-based recycling facility Kurrajong Recyclers are offering a free guided walking tour to help answer all your recycling queries. Also, see how the products are sorted, learn the volume of products that come into the facility and how the facility helps repurpose paper, cardboard, plastics and glass into new products.
