IGNITE YOUR SENSES AT RIVERINA SCIENCE FESTIVAL

The line-up of events to celebrate this year’s Riverina Science Festival is set to ignite, and excite, all the senses. Get hands-on and a little bit messy in the Kitchen Science Storytime sessions or gaze through a high-powered telescope to discover the stars above. Listen to some music and learn the science behind the sounds or tantalise

your tastebuds, and learn about the food we eat from a real-life scientist at Supermarket Botany sessions. Whether you’re a budding scientist or just have a curious mind, the festival, which coincides with National Science Week 2016, has something for all ages and interests. Story continued inside

FUN IN FOCUS: Wagga Wagga City Library Program Officers Jeannie Hazell and Michael Scutti get up close and personal with science ahead of the Riverina Science Festival. The festival, which coincides with National Science Week 2016, starts today and runs until Sunday 21 August.

Free Tip Day on 20 August The City of Wagga Wagga’s next Free Tip Day is Saturday 20 August – just in time to start your spring cleaning. Mark the date in your calendar and bring your household rubbish, garden waste and mixed recyclables down to the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre (GWMC) from

7am to 4.30pm. “With spring just around the corner, this Free Tip Day is a great opportunity to clean out your shed or garage and clean up around the house,” Manager Waste and Stormwater Services Geoff Veneris said. “Free Tip Days complement the City of Wagga Wagga’s normal service, which includes more materials that can be disposed of for free every day due to increased recycling capability at GWMC.”

We’re now on Facebook!

Televisions, computers and computer equipment can be disposed of for free, not just on Free Tip Day, but every day that the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre is open. This offer is available to householders and small businesses only. “You can also dispose of polystyrene for free all year round at GWMC,” Mr Veneris said. “Council can reprocess it on-site for reuse into a range of recycled products.”

Special wastes such as tyres, builders waste, refrigerative items, mattresses and gas bottles are not included in the free disposal day and will be charged as per normal fees and charges. Free disposal is limited to cars, vans, utes and single axle trailers only. For more information and a full list of fees and charges, visit Council’s website wagga. nsw.gov.au or phone 1300 292 442.
