FULLY FUNDED: Mayor Greg Conkey and Member for Wagga Wagga Daryl Maguire announce Wagga Wagga City Council's $11.7M funding application for a series of cycling networks has been approved by the NSW Government.

With the project now fully funded, cycling is set to become a more viable transport option through the development of five new cycling networks that link the outer suburbs with the CBD. “This is an ambitious plan that looks to the future and will have long-term, widespread benefits for our community,” Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Greg Conkey OAM said. “The introduction of a complete cycling network with separated cycle paths allows our city’s transport infrastructure to adapt to

predicted growth and cements our position as a leading regional city in NSW.” The locations of the proposed cycling routes and end-of-trip facilities are yet to be confirmed. During the project’s design phase, stakeholder and community consultation along with technical studies will take place to inform what the cycling network will look like. Wagga Wagga City Council General Manager Peter Thompson said the planned infrastructure will have significant benefits for the community and works towards the strategic direction of achieving a healthy

and connected city. “The proposed cycling networks will connect key locations within the city", he said. "The strategy makes provision for arterial cycleways across the city and will give community members another great feature to enjoy in our city. "Users will be able to cycle along safe, separated cycleways with access to end-oftrip facilities including secure bike storage. “This infrastructure will provide high quality cycling options to move about the city and will encourage increased physical activity.” Story continued inside
