Breath of Fresh air Three weeks into FRESH, and the month long program of talks, workshops and events is attracting strong interest as the community indulge their curiosity to learn something new, and experience something different. FRESH is a new concept this year which combines the traditional Youth Week and Seniors Week into a festival program of 44 diverse events with appeal to millennials, baby boomers and beyond. "It brings people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures together," Community Development Officer Victoria Lowe said. "Some events traditionally would have fallen under Seniors

VOL.2

Festival or Youth Week, but FRESH means everyone is able to take part, whether you’re young, old or in-between." There are opportunities for the Wagga community to meet and learn from some talented professionals and industry leaders from the Riverina and further afield on subjects as diverse as birds, clever op shopping, smartphone photography, felt making and contemporary dance. “Youth called for more activities and learning opportunities and we’ve delivered that this week with the internationally acclaimed Branch Nebula," Ms Lowe said. "Snake Sessions at the Skate Park has been well received

and Wagga’s young people have taken up the opportunity to learn parkour, skating, and contemporary dance and BMX skills from the experts. I’m looking forward to their final performance at 5pm on Saturday when the hours spent with Wagga’s youth culminates in a custom-made performance for our city.” In week one, the FRESH program included tours to Altina Wildlife Park at Darlington Point, a birdwatching walk with best-selling co-author of The Australian Bird Guide Peter Menkhorst at Marrambidya Wetlands, and a seniors movie matinee and tea party. Week two activities included a wild brush making workshop with Wiradjuri Elder Aunty

Kath Withers, a tour of RAAF Base Wagga and a behind the scenes tour of Gregadoo Waste Management Centre. The week three program has been huge as it coincides with the first week of the school holidays. Sound enthusiasts gathered for a field recording workshop capturing the sounds of nature and people at the Botanic Gardens, spotlighting walk in Wilks Park and a smart phone photography workshop. Yoga in the park is free and open to everyone at 10.30am Saturday. Events coming up next week include a Zine-Making For Beginners workshop, a Sustainable Fashion Talk, nature walk along the levee bank and The Memory Lounge, an

opportunity to sit with historians and record your family stories. And don’t miss a taste of India at the Mumbai Street Food Feast. “We’re happy with the response and feedback from the people who have participated in FRESH events so far," Ms Lowe said. The feedback indicates there is strong community support for FRESH. There’s no doubt that a diverse range of activities and events increases the liveability of our city.”
