Refresh and renewal for glass gallery Collection

FRESH LOOK: Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Director Dr Lee-Anne Hall is overseeing a significant refresh and renewal of the National Art Glass Collection and dedicated gallery.

Wagga Wagga’s prestigious National Art Glass Collection is in the midst of refresh and renewal, designed to lift its profile and reputation locally, regionally and nationally. Over the past four decades, almost 700 works have been acquired for the collection through Wagga Wagga City Council’s glass acquisition program supported by the Friends of the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and external donations. Wagga Wagga Art Gallery Director Dr Lee-Anne Hall said the collection includes remarkable works from some of Australia’s foremost glass artists alongside works produced by early career artists of exceptional promise. “We hold collection shows and tours at our dedicated Gallery in the Civic Centre precinct,” Dr Hall. “We have tourists who come from all over Australia, particularly from Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide, to see these works, as well as visitors from the Riverina and regional NSW. “It’s a real jewel in terms of what is on offer here in Wagga Wagga.” Keen to build on that profile and reputation, the Art Gallery has embarked on a refresh and renewal process in terms of the collection’s direction, presentation, the artists it works with and how shows are curated. New plan to focus on community safety Wagga Wagga City Council is currently updating the Crime Prevention Plan 2021 to develop the Community Safety Action Plan 2025. The Community Safety Action Plan 2025 will provide a framework for Council, in partnership with police and community partners, to work towards increasing community safety and preventing crime. Council has recently released a survey seeking to understand community

perceptions of safety and crime in the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area. Social Planner Lisa Saffery said results from the anonymous 10 minute survey will help identify priorities for inclusion in the updated Community Safety Action Plan 2025. “We want to know how safe you feel in your home, neighbourhood, suburb or rural village across the entire Wagga Wagga Local Government Area,” Ms Saffery said. “Your feedback will help us create priorities for inclusion in the updated Community Safety Action Plan 2025 to work towards improving safety and preventing crime where possible in our community.”

Like its predecessor the Crime Prevention Plan 2021, the Community Safety Action Plan 2025 will map out practical improvements that Council, other agencies and stakeholders can make to improve community safety. “We are encouraging everyone in the community to complete this survey to let us know their concerns and suggestions,” Ms Saffery said. Community members are encouraged to visit connect.wagga.nsw.gov.au/safety and complete the survey. The survey is open until 5pm, 12 March 2021. The draft Community Safety Action Plan 2025 will be available for public feedback later in 2021.

DO YOU FEEL SAFE?: Council is seeking to understand community perceptions of safety and crime through the 2021 Community Safety Perception Survey.
