New waste service almost here Almost 75,000 bins have been delivered across the Wagga Wagga region as the transition to the new kerbside waste service ramps up. Over the next two weeks, residents will start to use their new bins once their old bins have been emptied for the final time, depending on their current collection cycle. Bin delivery continues over the next week for Gobbagombalin, Estella, Kapooka amd Boorooma. “If you haven’t received your bins by 26 March, please contact us on 1300 292 442,” Waste Education & Communications Officer Alice Kent said.
AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE
“With 75,000 bins to be delivered, it is quite a long process and we thank everyone for their patience while we transition to new kerbside waste service starting 2 April. “Please read through the information pack inside your kitchen caddy to see when to start using your new bins and the process to remove the old bins. “As there are about 75,000 old bins to be collected, the removal process will take until 20 April. You can also drop your old bins off at the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre during opening hours if you don’t want to wait for them to be removed.” As part of the new kerbside waste service starting 2 April, households will use three new bins that align with the Australian standard of bin lid colours: • Green-lid for FOGO (food organics and
garden organics) waste to be collected weekly. Council is currently looking for a contractor to process this material into a useable product. • Yellow-lid for recyclables, such as plastics and paper, which will be collected every two weeks. This material will be taken to Kurrajong Recycling, who will continue to process recyclable material. • Red-lid for general waste that can’t be recycled or composted, which will be collected every two weeks and taken for disposal as landfill. Households will also receive a kitchen caddy and 150 compostable liners to separate their food waste before placing it in the green-lid FOGO bin. All bins will be emptied from 2 April by JJ Richards & Sons, who were announced as
