New artworks from The Art Factory brightening up the Mayor’s office

Exploding with colour and featuring joyful animals and shapes, artworks by local artists have found a new home in the office of Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga, Councillor Dallas Tout.

The collection of artworks will temporarily brighten up the Mayor’s office while they are on short-term loan from The Art Factory Supported Studio, Based at the Riverina Community College, The Art Factory provides professional support for the development of artists with disability through guidance, mentoring, networking and career progression.

Mayor Cr Dallas Tout met with the artists during his visit to The Art Factory studio space.

“This is the second time Council has loaned artworks from The Art Factory, and it’s always an exciting day in the office when the new works arrive,” Cr Tout said.

“We rotate the works on display every few months. It is a constant talking point when people visit the office and is a

great opportunity for a wider group to appreciate local artists.”

The mayor has chosen an assortment of mediums to display in his office, ranging from works on canvas and ceramics to mixed media, and paper lanterns.

“Showcasing these works also allows more people to learn about The Art Factory and the amazing work they are doing to provide a supportive space for artists with disability. The studio helps artists develop a visual language and progress their art profession.”

Draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan (DPOP)

Draft Long Term Financial Plan

Draft Fees and Charges

Council is encouraging residents to give their feedback on three planning documents detailing how the strategic aspirations of Council and the community can be achieved in terms of time, money, assets and people.

The draft Delivery Program 2025/29 and Operational Plan 2025/26 (DPOP), draft Long Term Financial Plan 2025/26 (LTFP), and draft 2025/26 Fees and Charges are now on public exhibition. Manager Corporate Governance & Performance David Galloway said the plans are designed to demonstrate how Council will turn the community's ideas into real action.

“They have been created based on the community’s priorities and aspirations identified in Wagga Wagga 2050 - Community Strategic Plan (CSP), which was adopted by Council in April 2025 after 18 months of community consultation and engagement,” Mr Galloway said.

“The documents show our income (rates, fees, charges and grant funding), what we’re planning to deliver by way of services, programs, and projects over the next four years, and how much it’s going to cost to deliver them.”

The DPOP also identifies Council’s priorities for our region, including a commitment to develop village-specific plans in 2026, which will be based on community feedback.

Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Dallas Tout is calling on the community to get involved in the consultation process.

“We want the community to read over the documents and share their feedback on what Council is planning to deliver and on how their rates are being spent, so we can meet their expectations of Council over the next four years,” Cr Tout said.

“You can access the documents and make a submission online or drop in at one of the engagement sessions.”

The documents will be on public exhibition until Tuesday 10 June 2025. Visit haveyoursay.wagga.nsw.gov.au

Parks & Recreation

Playtime at three revamped play spaces in our city

The finishing touches are being completed at three new playgrounds in our suburban neighbourhoods: Ken Schultz Park in Mount Austin, Ray Beddoe Park in Lake Albert, and Lloyd Park in Lloyd.

The design for each playground was chosen by the community via online engagement in September 2024.

The project to construct the new playgrounds began in early March 2025, with the transformation of the Ken Schultz Park playground, followed by the installation of the revamped playground at Lloyd Park (pictured).

The final phase has been the construction of the new playground at Ray Beddoe Park at Lake Albert, which

was the largest of the three upgrades with the playground relocated closer to the Wagga Wagga Country Club to take advantage of more open space and to install a large stainless steel tube slide.

Council’s Works and Playground Officer

John Conlan says all three play spaces are now open for the community to enjoy.

“I think residents will be pleased with how the designs they chose for these playgrounds have turned out now they have been installed,” Mr Conlan said.

“They all combine the traditional elements with modern features, along with interactive sensory equipment and some bespoke elements.”

Each of the new playgrounds have improved accessibility, with equipment at ground level and paths to make it easier to get around.

The Ray Beddoe Park works are expected to be completed shortly with the installation of paths and concrete edging, while the old playground will be removed in the coming weeks.

Artist Opportunities

Expressions of Interest

Council

We are seeking artists to design and install two new artworks in the community:

Wagga Wagga City Library

“We are also planning to install shade sails over the new playground depending on the outcome of a current grant application,” Mr Conlan said.

“If we are successful, Council will match the funding to enable the shade sails to be put in, hopefully some time in spring.”

The upgrades are part of Council’s Playground Strategy 2024-2044
