Memories of Tarbolton Christmas Eve service part 2
Serving the Rivers, Rapid City and Oak River areas for 109 years
March 30, 2018
From Brittany Wallis (MacDonald) I remember getting the yearly call from “Auntie Ree ( L oree Wedderburn), saying it was time to decide what “the MacDonald girls were going to sing for the Tarbolton Christmas Eve service. Every year, Kaila, Dana and I would pick a song to sing, eventually graduating to making up our own “Tarbolton twist lyrics to traditional melodies. Even after we moved away from home and Kaila moved a province over, it was still important to us to keep our tradition going. We would practice a few times in the freezing car, usually between a few arguments, before performing in front of the congregation. When my sisters shifted away from annual attendance, I decided I would keep singing each year. And so I have. When Auntie Ree decided she didn’t want to organize the service anymore, I knew right then that I couldn’t see it go. It means so much to me; it’s been part of my Christmas tradition since I was around eight years old. No matter what is going on in life, coming to the service always feels like
