ivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary received its charter of May 6, 1946, so each May members celebrate their anniversary with a potluck supper prior to their monthly meeting. This year’s meal was shared on Monday, May 1; following the meal and before the meeting, awards were presented. President Marlene Hayhurst congratulated those members before giving each the appropriate pin: Donna Morken, 40 years; Donna Veitch, 30 years; Marlene Allen, 20 years; Donna Falkevitch, 15 years; Eleanor Childerhose and Lisa Smith, 10 years; Karen Cullen and Bev Barber, five years. Also eligible for awards, but not present were: Mabel Espey,

Past-president Janey Brown then honoured Marlene with her president’s bar. During the meeting which followed, Eleanor announced her resignation, effective at the close of the June 5 meeting. This will provide the membership three months to find a replacement secretary (no meetings in July or August) and Eleanor offered to assist her successor for a smooth transition.

Members were surprised to learn Donna Morken (L) was eligible for a 40-year membership pin from Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She joked that she joined when she was nine, which caused much laughter when this picture was taken of president Marlene Hayhurst presenting her the pin.

T
he 27th annual Razzamatazz Dance Club recital was titled Rock the Jukebox. As guests entered Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium in Brandon on Sunday, April 30, they saw all the foyer doors decorated in paper records and a large jukebox. Each record contained the name of a dance member; the jukebox was branded Razzamatazz. The show inside the amphi-
theatre is what local residents have come to expect, this now being the third recital presented in that facility. It was long (more than three hours) and loud but the professional lighting and colourful backdrops which change by projection add so much ambiance to the choreography. Most of the 74 dancers (some were sick that day) were on stage at least twice, and some many more times than
that, depending on the number of groups in which they were registered. There were 21 different groups in the club this year, which translated into 49 dances from the mini dancers (aged three) right through to senior. Recognized as being senior, Cassidy Davis and Tia Lee Morgan were each presented parting gifts as they will graduate from Rivers and Elton Collegiates respectively. Karina Lade and
Zoe Moquin-Wood were given scholarships from dance teacher Charlene Hiscock. She also recognized each of her student helpers by presenting them a small gift: Cassidy, Haile Hubbard, Megan Hubbard, Emma Roulette, MaKenna Scott, Hannah Toews, Shelby Schmidt, Alexis Pompana and Katie Wright. Some audience members were also given gifts when their
number was drawn from an assortment of penny raf e prizes; those winners were: Bob Thomson, gift card; Karen Minshull, picture; Kerry Veitch, Pampered Chef; Karla Morgan, grill; Dora Irvine, necklace; Ron Chiborak, glasses, patio lights, gift card; Dwayne Toews, lottery tickets. Emcee Shelley Foster was asked to pull the winning 50/50 ticket and the crowd watched her draw her own number; she won $113.
