Harding hands $6,000 to hostel

By Eileen Kent

On Sunday, Nov. 20 Harding Community Club held a mini mall in their Harding Community Center, with several vendors portraying their sale items; the mini mall also featured a lovely Christmas lunch. During the afternoon a presentation of $6,000 was made to A Port in The Storm. The six members of Harding Community Club shared the profits of their community suppers and other activities of 2016 with A Port In the Storm. APITS is a “home away from home” for people from rural and northern Manitoba who are taking medical treatments of any kind, not just cancer, in Winnipeg. Stacey Grocholski, APITS executive director, accepted the gift of money and gave an update on the present hostel and plans for the new location. Gary Schiltroth of Reston has spent time in APITS; he spoke of how the hostel truly was “a home away from home.” A big bouquet to the half-dozen members of Harding Community Club; your work is truly appreciated! In addition to the club members making this marvelous contribution, donations to APITS were collected from vendors (in lieu of table rent) and patrons at the mall; this culminated in an additional $1,210 donation to APITS.

HELP bazaar a success!

By Heather Gray

We HELP (Helping Each Local Project) ladies are overjoyed with the turnout at our second annual Christmas bazaar. We could not be more pleased with the support of our community, from the 25 wonderfully creative vendors to everyone who bought baking, raffle tickets or 50/50. Helen Gibson won $112 while the other $112 was split between this year’s recipients of the entire bazaar proceeds. A lot of planning goes into organizing a craft sale; it is a wonderful feeling to be able to see this event be a huge success. We are so happy to say we were able to donate $679.60 to Rivers Elementary School’s breakfast program and $679.60 to Rivers Colligate’s lunch/ breakfast program. There was also a collection for Rivers Christmas Cheer; we were pleased to donate gifts to that campaign. We love to help out our community and we are making our Christmas bazaar an annual event. Our nomination buckets will be out again in February; please don’t forget to nominate your choice of organization. We are striving to help every non-profit organization in Riverdale Municipality. See you at our next event!
