RDI Roofing — rave reviews

By Sheila Runions Banner Staff

everal comments on e-Brandon have rated a Rivers company the best roofer in Westman. RDI Roofing was formed nearly five years ago and while it initially operated in Brandon, 18 months ago it packed up and moved to Rivers. Owner Rob Carter, wife Danielle and their two preschool-aged boys moved to the 600 block of Sixth Avenue for several reasons. “We made the decision to move to Rivers in order to be closer to family, to expand our business in a town that feels like home to me and to give our boys the similar small town experiences we had growing up,” says Rob. “Rivers feels like home because of the people I met in school and while working at North American Lumber the summer of 2006.” Rob immigrated to Canada from England with his parents and brothers in 2003 and lived on the family farm 10 minutes north of Rivers for four years, until he graduated from Rivers Collegiate in 2007. His parents, Stephen and Sally, still live on that farm as do another brother

and his family; Rob also has a sister and her family living in Rivers. After two years of study at SIAST in Prince Albert, Sask., Rob received his forestry diploma and with that piece of paper in hand, he “decided to venture into roofing. Family is my biggest driving factor; I love the freedom of owning my company as it allows for me to be with the boys whenever needed. Danielle works as a birth doula and a Norwex consultant so both careers allow her to stay at home too.” Spring is when the business kicks into high gear, keeping his permanent crew of four employees busy all season (MarchNovember). Rob and his staff’s attention to detail is what is responsible for the plethora of positive posts on the popular website mentioned above. Not only does RDI have outstanding customer service, it offers competitive pricing. Quality materials such as 30-year algaeresistent fibreglass shingles, synthetic roofing underlay, use of an ice and water shield (prod-

uct applied during the roofing process) and premium vents account for more happy customers. “I pride myself on quality service, from tearing off the roof right down to the cleanup. I love being able to meet new people and develop a real and trusting relationship with each client. We pride ourselves in getting things done right the first time. Our mission is to provide our customers with high quality and affordable roofing services.” RDI — which stands for Rob, Danielle and Iver, their firstborn — is a fully licensed and insured company which guarantees all its work. When roofing season is over, they continue to keep busy because “we take off our roofing hats and pick up our snow shovels for monthly residential snow clearing contracts.” If you would like a free estimate for your roofing project, whether a repair, full re-roof or a new build which requires overhead protection, you can call Rob at 204-412-1698 or visit their website at www.rdiroofing. squarespace.com.

This month Rivers Police Service saw an increase in the number vehicles entered and two vehicles were stolen. Police are again reminding people to please lock your vehicles and don’t leave anything of value in them. Anyone with information regarding the thefts of a stolen pickup and quad are asked to call Rivers Police Service at 204-328-7430 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-782-8477. They are the business property of a pilot truck service which is based in the 600 block of Third Avenue. March was another month of violent-free criminal activity with no files opened in the six categories of this Criminal Code section. There has only been one violent crime to date in 2016 and that was an assault. In the seven property crime categories were five thefts under $5,000, one break and enter and two vehicle thefts — the quad and truck mentioned in the opening paragraph. The first quarter of this year has seen police respond to 13 property crimes. The final Criminal Code section is “other crimes” which has six categories; two files were opened in this grouping. Each of those were in the “various other crimes” which includes breaches, public mischief, harassing phone calls, etc. So far there have been six cases in these categories, including one case of fraud. Federal traffic charges remain at zero for all of 2016 and only one provincial traffic crime was noticed last month — “other,” which could be speeding, an unregistered vehicle, driving without a licence, etc. The first quarter of 2016 has had 14 provincial traffic charges, all in this category. The final traffic section is accidents and none were reported in March and only two as a total for January and February. Three categories of the Liquor and Gaming Control Act section remain at zero for all three months. Intoxicated Persons Detention Act (IPDA) was enforced once last month, for a total of five times to date. The only bylaw enforced last month was for animal control, and that only happened once. In the past three months, the nuisance bylaw has been enforced once and animal, three times; burning and traffic bylaws continue to have zero entries. Rivers Police Service assisted other agencies four times last month and we had three calls to the former RM of Daly area. Our help was needed seven times in March, which brings the threemonth total to 33: 10 to assist the public, 10 to assist other agencies, five finger prints/pardons/providing police reports and eight RM calls. The miscellaneous assistance calls were varied in March with one each of 911, community relations, missing persons (located), Child and Family Services (CFS), found property and sudden death. Two alarms were called in and three other miscellaneous cases were opened, which includes unfounded complaints. Year-to-date totals of this section are four mental health calls, one 911, three community relations, one missing person, five alarms, 10 noisy parties/ disturbances, four CFS, one lost property, one insecure premise, three found properties, one sudden death, one trespassing, two sex offender registrations and 17 miscellaneous.
