To ensure hours of service were not disrupted, contractors began their evening and weekend work on Saturday, April . The following weekend pril 8 and 9), the lobby was locked so they could paint in the new corporate colours of white with red trim. The upgrade included construction of walls (and door) around the counter so as to create a secure space in the back of the office unseen b customers’ eyes. New countertops, a wheelchair-accessible pull-out writing desk, a slat wall to display products and some new ooring were installed. In the lobby, the bulletin boards were removed, as was a small shelf on which funeral cards were displayed; these features will not be replaced. A panel of postal boxes were moved to a more accessible area in the lobby. Both indoor and outdoor mail slots were sealed off and a city-familiar red metal box now sits outside the building as a means for customers to mail letters. Yet to be installed is button-activated automatic door opening hardware; it is expected this work will be completed by month’s end. ostmaster Terr Nolin sa s The inconvenience of renovations is always worth it in the end. Staff are very happy with the results The slots were closed because there were no firewalls to ensure protection.” Local area manager Steve Keown explains, “A certain budget is provided yearly to different areas so we do about two in our area, which is 155 different offices in western and northern Manitoba. We’re constantly trying to maintain and refresh our corporate image; this is part of a national project that has been going on for a few years. Rivers was identified as one that would welcome a refresh to better display our products, make the customers’ visit more welcoming and also provide a better environment for our employees.”
