“If you build it, they will come.” — Field of Dreams, 1989. Rivers United Church was a “Fuller House” on Friday, April 8 as 11 teams “battleshipped” it out at Trivia II. There were a few “Twisters” and turns throughout the evening but after 10 rounds of “Clues” and a tricky bonus question, Team 42 was the closest to “Perfection.” Perhaps it was their “foreign” influence! SevenTees were chosen as the team with the most spirit and they “shrieked” with delight. After “An offer they couldn’t refuse,” the Wise Old Rivers Owls accepted the Better Luck Next Time Trophy. Rehab Rebels smashed their Trivia I score to “Smithereens.” Some teams wondered “where in the world were they”? It was Barb Szapko’s “PayDay” when she was the winner of the last person standing 50/50 draw ($58). Five-year-old Liberty Lelond was the youngest participant; Doreen Bate was the participant with the most experience. Dustin Byfuglien was called in to keep the crowd under control; thanks for “The Help,” a good time was had by all. (All words in quotes were clues or answers during Trivia II.) In other church news, the spring yoga session continues on Monday evenings. For more information contact Dianne Kowalchuk at 204-328-7690. The women’s Coffee, Cookies and Conversation meets at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19. Remember this group is open to all women of the community and you are encouraged to bring a friend. The board also meets on April 19 at 7 p.m. The women’s choir is practising for their anthem on April 24; women from the congregation are encouraged to join! Please drop off your good used items for the thrift sale upstairs in Friendship Hall. Mark your calendars for the sale dates of April 28, 29 and 30. Contact Lynn Madden (204-328-7735) or Megan Forsyth (204328-7190) for further information. Let’s help Hall Sveistrup reach his goal of selling 100 pies at the pie sale April 30! Sunday school will be held on Mother’s Day, May 8. As well, we will be witnessing the sacrament of baptism. The choir will be joined by Stan and Sheila Runions. We would be delighted to have you worship with us that day or any Sunday. The Sunday school wind-up is scheduled for June 12.
