AUTOMOTIVE AND TRANSPORTATION

Train in our new state-of-the-art Transportation, Trade, and Industrial Education Center located on our Albert Lea campus.

Automotive Service Technology

• Master ASE® accredited program and instructors.

Diesel Technology

AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SCIENCE

Agricultural Sciences

• Certificates, AA, and AS Degrees available.

• Includes training in agribusiness, precision agriculture, soil science, and crop production.

Food Science Technology

• Certificate, AA and AS Degrees available.

• Train in our state-of-the-art food science lab.

• Guaranteed transfer agreement with Minnesota State University, Mankato.

BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL

Accounting

• Offering six different academic programs - all with courses available online.

• The Accounting Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Pathway program provides direct transfer to any of the seven Minnesota State universities.

• Programs prepare students to earn several external certifications such as Professional Bookkeeper, Certified Payroll Professional, and more.

Business

• AS Degree, Accounting Transfer Pathway AS, and certificate options are available.

• Programs can be completed 100% online.

• The Business Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Pathway AS Degree provides direct transfer to any of the seven Minnesota State Universities.

• Our Business FlexPace program provides working adults at-your-pace, online Business options.

COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL SERVICE

Human Services

• Hands-on experience through field training and an internship.

• In addition to the AS in Human Services Degree, you can complete an AA Degree (with an additional 9 credits) for transfer to a four-year university.

• A partnership with St. Scholastica provides students the option to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in only 16 months while staying in their own community.

CONSTRUCTION

Build, install, wire, and repair a variety of commercial and residential structures in one of our high-demand construction programs.

Carpentry

• Residential Carpentry Diploma, Commercial Carpentry Diploma, and Construction Management certificate options.

• Only Commercial Carpentry program in Minnesota.

• Graduates of the Residential and Commercial Carpentry programs qualify for 1500 Journeyman hours.

• Hands-on training building a house off-site.

Construction Electrician

• Riverland’s Construction Electrician Diploma is recognized by both Minnesota and Iowa for work credit.

• Hands-on experience wiring a new house.

• Provides training for careers in either Construction Electrician or Maintenance Electrician.

Elementary Education

• A collaboration between Riverland and Winona State University allows students to earn their AA degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education without leaving the local community.

• Clinical experiences provided in area elementary schools.

Physical Education/Coaching

• AA Physical Education/ Coaching Concentration and Coaching Certificate options.

• Students graduating with the AA Physical Education Degree are well prepared to transfer into a Bachelor’s Degree program.

• Graduates of the Coaching Certificate Program meet the standards of the Minnesota High School League to be a Head/Varsity Coach.

FINE ARTS

• A certificate in Community Music Engagement prepares students for transfer or to pursue careers like independent artist, salesperson, or studio teacher. This certificate can be used toward completion of our AA - Music Emphasis degree.

• All AA and AFA degrees are easily transferable to a related four-year bachelor’s degree program.

• Theatre students can participate in four main stage productions each academic year, including two musicals.

• Theatre Transfer Pathway degrees prepare students for transfer or for entry into a variety of careers in the performing arts industry.

• Travel-study courses provide the opportunity to experience art and culture in cities around the globe.

English as a Second Language (ESLA)

• Designed for international and immigrant students wanting to improve their English skills for college and career success.

• Develops skills in writing, grammar, reading, vocabulary, listening, and speaking.

• Up to 12 credits count toward an Associate of Arts (AA) degree, and advanced ESLA students start taking college classes in a small, supported cohort.

MANUFACTURING AND ROBOTICS

Become part of a high-demand career field that provides good wages, job advancement opportunities, hands-on work, and cutting-edge technology.

• Industrial Maintenance students train in the upkeep and repair of industrial equipment and learn skills including welding, machining, safety, and preparation for boiler operator licensure.

• Welding students gain skills in a range of processes including gas, ARC, tig, and wire feed.

• The new Automation Robotics Engineering program prepares students to design, build, install and troubleshoot automated electro-mechanical systems.

• Cosmetology training covers all aspects of hair, skin, and nail care in a state-of-the art salon environment.

• Become a skincare specialist and learn skin exfoliation, perform facials, do lash extensions, brow and lash tinting, and more by enrolling in one of our new Esthetician options.

• Massage Therapy training includes a variety of types of massage and techniques, as well as working with special populations.

• Our programs provide services to the public in a supervised setting, giving students real world experience in their fields.

• Riverland’s assigned academic advisors will assist you with academic planning, the registration process and much more.

• Advocacy Services are available for those who need help meeting their basic needs - including safe shelter, sleep and nutrition.

• Free Mental Health Counselors are available on each campus.

• Food pantries are available on all three campuses.

• Free tutoring services are available in-person, on-campus and online and our Writing and Math Center provides trained, supportive instructors who work one-on-one with students.

• TRIO Student Support Services helps first generation, low income, and students with disabilities reach their full potential and achieve academic success.

• Accessibility services provides accommodations upon request for students who have a documented disability.

POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION OPTIONS

We offer a variety of free college options for high school students.

• Our PSEO program allows qualifying 10th, 11th, and 12 graders the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school by enrolling in courses on our Riverland campuses and online.

• Concurrent Enrollment classes provide high school students the opportunity to earn college credits by taking college-level courses taught by approved high school teachers on the high school campus.

HONORS PROGRAM AND PHI THETA KAPPA

• Riverland’s Honors Program offers enhanced learning opportunities and activities to students who demonstrate academic excellence and a high level of interest and initiative.

• Riverland has an award winning Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an International Honors Society for Two-Year College students that represents scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship.

• Riverland’s Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society brought in two international awards in 2022: the Distinguished Chapter Award and the Distinguished Honors in Action Project.

ATHLETICS

Join the award-winning Blue Devils in one of six NJCAA Division III athletic programs including baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball.

• Riverland is part of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

• Sports offered: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball.

• Be a fan! Riverland students can attend athletics events at no charge. Take a break from studying and check out tailgating and other pre-game events and participate in fan competitions during game breaks.

THEATRE AND MUSIC

• The Riverland Music Department provides a variety of performance opportunities, concerts and courses. Riverland’s ensembles give regular performances throughout the state and regions and have appeared in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

• Those interested in music can also participate in one of two musicals produced each year by the Riverland Theatre Department.

• Riverland’s Theater Department is a performanceoriented program offering excellent hands-on learning opportunities for students of all experience levels. Riverland Theatre produces four main stage productions each academic year.

• Students can also participate in Summerset Community Theatre which offers three productions each summer in Riverland’s Frank W. Bridges Theatre.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND ACTIVITIES

• Riverland offers a wide variety of organizations and activities to enhance your student experience –because the college experience is more than what takes place in the classroom!

• At Riverland you will have the opportunity to meet new friends and explore new interests through participation in a wide variety of activities available on all three campuses.

• Clubs provide the opportunity to meet others interested in the same career area, learn more about the world and human rights issues, develop leadership skills, advocate and support important causes – and so much more.

STUDENT HOUSING AND RESIDENTIAL LIFE

• Enjoy affordable apartment-style housing on our Austin Campus.

• Each unit is designed to accommodate six students.

• Units include:

- Three bedrooms with bunkable beds

- Two full baths

- A large pantry

- A kitchen with stove, refrigerator and dishwasher

- Living room area with couch, chairs and end tables

• Housing includes use of a Community Center, a 24-hour coin-operated laundry facility, an outdoor patio area, parking, utilities and fiber WiFi.
