Welcome to RiverCenter! It is such a pleasure to introduce our 2022-2023 season. Comedy, tragedy, dance, rock and roll, silent pictures, intrigue, acrobatics, cirque extravaganza, and more all await our audiences.
This season we continue with our tour origination projects. The national tours of Jesus Christ Superstar, A Magical Cirque Christmas, Pride and Prejudice, and Julius Caesar will originate from right here in Columbus. These projects each bring dozens of theatre professionals from around the country to our community for several days or weeks to put the final touches on these touring productions. The community directly gains through new economic activity while RiverCenter audiences will experience the thrill and excitement of seeing the very first full performance of these outstanding touring productions.
Right on the tails of our first silent picture Safety Last with The Wave—the fun continues when Ron Carter returns to accompany the 1925 silent picture The Phantom of the Opera followed by From Broadway to Hollywood and A Salute to the American Songbook with Dr. Joseph Golden, both featuring The Wave. As another tradition builds with The Wave, our Gingerbread Village returns and will be open on December 3, when we will have Christmas With The Wave in The Village!
This season, we offer a grouping of three productions that are ideal for families: A Magical Cirque Christmas, The Peking Acrobats featuring the Shanghai Circus, and Madagascar the Musical. When purchased as a package – enjoy a generous discount for adult tickets and then take advantage of the special children’s prices for some very affordable, professional entertainment that the entire family will enjoy. Families can enjoy the free performance of the United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus. This is a great introduction to the RiverCenter experience with the very best touring musical ensemble of the United States Armed Forces.
Audience favorites RAIN—A Tribute to the Beatles and Riverdance return with entirely new productions – Riverdance with new staging and music for its 25th anniversary tour and RAIN adds music from Abbey and the Rooftop Concert. We have not forgotten about our school-age audiences with some outstanding experiences. Click, Clack, Moo and Junie B.’s Essential Survival Guide to School for schooltime matinees for younger grades and the Aquila Theatre production of Julius Caesar for the older grades. Step Afrika! will feature five days of free streaming content available to anyone who wants to learn more about this exhilarating tradition in dance. Tedde Gibson is an accomplished pianist and classical Hammond and theatre organist. He is also a composer, arranger, and silent film scorer.
Born in Tacoma, WA, Tedde began organ study at 16 with the late American Guild of Organists (AGO) president Dr. Edward Hansen of the University of Puget Sound and then studied classical organ improvisation with David Dahl, professor emeritus at Pacific Lutheran University. He eventually studied theatre organ arranging with Jonas Nordwall of Portland, OR and the late Andy Crow. He became a regular organist at Tacoma Pizza and Pipes from 1995 until the restaurant closed in 1999. He was also
organist at Tacoma First Assembly of God/ Life Center. He moved to Seattle in 1996 where he studied with Dr. Carol Terry and Dr. J. Melvin Butler at the University of Washington. He then performed as organist at First AME Church Seattle.
In 2003, Tedde moved to the Washington, DC metro area and began to study pipe organ with Dr. Mickey Thomas Terry. He attended Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore where he studied with another former AGO president, Dr. John Walker.
For 18 years, Tedde was an organist/ musician-in-residence at First Baptist Church of Highland Park in Landover, MD, and music educator at Highland Park Christian Academy. He then became
organist at Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian Roman Catholic Church in Washington, DC prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, Tedde serves as the Director of Fine Arts at the 8,000-member Mount Pleasant Church and Ministries in Baltimore and as organist at Capitol Hill Seventhday Adventist Church in Washington, DC.
Tedde enjoys being an active recitalist and workshop clinician, performing on theatre and church organs nationwide. He has been featured on NBC Nightly News
Weekend Edition and has accompanied "Sex and the City" alum Mario Cantone in the nationally broadcast PBS production of "Wicked in Concert." He recently had the honor to perform on the Seattle Paramount Theatre's Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ at the 2022 American Guild of Organists Convention.

On June 25, 2021, RiverCenter became the new home of an Allen GW IV digital theatre organ, a gift from Dr. Marie Jureit-Beamish through the Atlanta Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society (ACATOS).
The history of theatre organs can be traced to entertainment venues in the mid-teens through the late 1920s, when entertainment across the country centered around silent movies and Vaudeville. During their heyday, thousands of movie houses depended on live musical accompaniment, providing the primary usage of the original theatre organs until the "talkies"—movies with sound— became mainstream in the early 1930s.
In the decades to follow, some organs were destroyed when their theatres were torn down, but some found their way into churches or private home installations. The American Theatre Organ Society was founded in 1955 to save as many of these instruments as possible. While there were originally several thousand theatre organs, today only a few hundred remain.
The Allen Organ Company of Macungie, PA is a world leader in the creation and manufacture of digital organs for churches, concert halls, theatres and private homes. In 1997, the company’s “Renaissance” technology changed the
organ world, using digital technology to imitate pipe organ sound. In the distinctive world of the theatre organ, the model GW IV made history.
“GW” stands for George Wright, the legendary organist who consulted with Allen technicians to create the instrument.
RiverCenter’s GW IV has four keyboards with the equivalent voices of 33 ranks of pipes. The GW IV also features percussion (glockenspiel, xylophone, chimes, etc.) and “traps” (cymbals, snare drums, tambourines and castanets) making the GW IV the full equivalent of a large theatre pipe organ. The sound is amazing.

STEVE LANDES (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Harmonica, Piano, Original Broadway Cast) a life-long, second generation Beatles fan, Steve taught himself guitar at ten by listening to Beatles records and by 13 was fronting a top 40 cover band in his native Philadelphia. At 17 he joined Beatlemania and further developed his musicianship, touring the world with the show. After “passing the audition” with the existing Rain band members in 1998, his career was set. On one of his travels to England, he found himself at Liverpool’s Casbah Club, owned by pre-Ringo Beatles drummer Pete Best. Encouraged to get on stage, Steve belted out lead vocals to the Beatles rocker “Slow Down,” while Best sat in on drums. As a backup musician, Steve has performed alongside legendary sixties artists Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermits), Joey Molland (Badfinger), Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels and Tiny Tim. As an actor, he appeared in the films Wedding Bell Blues, For Which He Stands and Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks! PAUL CURATOLO (Vocals, Bass, Piano, Guitar) The Beatles became Paul’s biggest influence as a child growing up with RAIN At ten years old, his musical journey began when he taught himself the drums. He quickly adapted to guitar and piano which drove him to write and record his own music. When he was 14, as a member of the pop band “Wayward”, he went on to record five albums. Until recently the band has toured the U.S. and was voted home town heroes in A.P. Magazine (Alternative Press). Paul’s love for the Beatles has driven him to master the character of Paul McCartney down to every detail. From vocal inflections to turning the bass over to perform left-handed. Paul considers it an honor to pay tribute to his idol.
AARON CHIAZZA (Drums, Percussion, Vocals) began playing music at the young age of 5 when his parents gifted him a drum set. This drum set did not last long under the strength of a kindergartner and eventually he moved into a full size instrument by early elementary school. Early yet important musical influences stemmed from a blend of past era funk, soul, jazz, rock, and others. From there he went on
to study music in an academic setting through high school and college participating in Jazz, Symphonic, and percussion ensembles. Amongst tossing up time between original projects, writing and shows, Aaron also loves being an audio engineer and artist. ALASTAR McNEIL (Vocals, Lead Guitar, Guitar Synth) Born and raised on the island of Oʻahu, State of Hawaiʻi, Alastar McNeil grew up surrounded by musicians who played ukulele and guitar. These instruments would play a pivotal role in his life as he became an ukulele luthier – for a time supervising a local factory – and eventually changed careers to fulfill the dream of being a full time musician. Alastar and his wife Miwa (herself a kihoʻalu or Hawaiian slack key guitarist) have played with the iconic band Kupaʻāina for years even as he earned a solid reputation for his instrumentation and adaptability playing with Honolulu bands doing everything from Irish to reggae, funk to classic rock and even a local Beatles tribute. “Playing with RAIN has challenged and improved my ability to express myself not just as a musician but as an actor and entertainer as well. Nothing is more thrilling!”
MARK BEYER (Keyboard, Percussion) began piano lessons at age 8, and at 12 was given special acceptance into a local University music school where he was privately trained in piano and music theory. At 14, he began experimenting with electronic keyboards and synthesizers from the 1970s, and played professionally in a progressive rock band. As keyboard technology advanced, Mark became known for his uncanny reproductions of elaborate sound textures, exotic instruments, and simulations of full orchestras. Mark is the primary programmer and sound designer for the keyboards currently used in RAIN’s production. www.Beatlekeys.com

CHRIS SMALLWOOD (Keyboard, Percussion) Chris fell in love with music as a young kid, but didn’t fall onto a piano bench until high school, when he broke his leg. Just two
years later, he was invited to Kentucky’s prestigious Governor’s School for the Arts program. In 2008, Chris received a bachelor of music from Belmont University, and in 2010 earned his master of music from the University of Louisville. Chris has toured internationally with RAIN – A Tribute to the Beatles for over eight years, and loves sharing his passion for The Beatles’ music with fans all over the world. Chris currently serves as adjunct music faculty at Belmont University, and owns Mockingbird Musicians – a Nashville contracting service for live music and entertainment. Chris was appointed Music Director/ Performer for the Eat Your Science tour, Chef Alton Brown’s live show. Chris released his first piano pop record, Out in the Open, which is available on iTunes.
JOEY CURATOLO (Vocals, Bass, Piano, Guitar, Original Broadway Cast) grew up in a Brooklyn household where classical music and opera formed the soundtrack. A natural musician, he was infatuated with The Beatles, taught himself guitar at age 10 and played piano by ear at 16. After winning multiple McCartney sound-alike contests, Joey toured with the Broadway production of Beatlemania. He joined RAIN shortly after, and helped transform the band into the multimedia production it is today. In addition, he is an active singer/ songwriter and studio musician. His original Christmas song “Wishing You a Very Merry Christmas” is featured on Broadway’s Carols for a Cure, Volume 12 (to benefit BC/EFA) as well as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Hope for the Holidays charity album. When Universal Pictures needed a McCartney sound, they contacted Joey to record the song “Love Take Me Down” for the recently released comedy Role Models. For Joey, performing on Broadway was a dream come true.
JOE BITHORN (Vocals, Lead Guitar, Guitar Synth, Sitar, Original Broadway Cast) grew up in Manhattan and Long Island, where he was exposed to a variety of music including jazz, Latin, classical and more. By age three, his musical father taught his children how to sing harmony. He was profoundly influenced by the experiences he had at Carnegie Hall
through his Mom, who worked with the Festival Casals. Thanks to The Beatles’ appearance on Ed Sullivan, Joe took a strong interest in the guitar. Early influences include the band Cream, and Joe developed the ability to learn guitar parts by ear by age 14. By age 16, he was so proficient that he was recruited for studio sessions. While in high school, Joe and his brother formed the Bithorn Brothers Band, performing the early music of the Allman Brothers Band. Joe heard about an audition for Beatlemania and was hired for the touring production as George. After touring with the show in North America, Joe joined RAIN in 1983 and has been touring the world ever since.
RALPH CASTELLI (Drums, Percussion, Vocals, Original Broadway Cast) was born and raised in southern California, surrounded by a musically talented family, and by age six became passionate about playing drums. On that momentous night in February, 1964, when The Beatles first appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” Ralph was hypnotized and knew playing drums was what he was born to do. Captivated by Ringo Starr and The Beatles that night, Ralph’s excitement continued to grow, and his dream would eventually become his reality. After touring and performing with numerous bands and pursuing his acting career, Ralph landed the role of Ringo Starr in the touring production of Beatlemania and was also cast as Ringo in Beatlemania: The Movie. His talent, drum techniques, humor, style and appearance were in his favor. Ralph joined RAIN in 1986 and was thrilled to be on Broadway.
MARK LEWIS (Founder, Manager, Original Keyboardist). As the managerial and creative mind that transformed RAIN from a 1970’s southern California bar band doing Beatles covers into an ultra-professional group, Mark Lewis recruited the excellent musicians who would gel into RAIN's long-standing line-up. He traces his love of the Fab Four to the Sunday night of February 9, 1964, when his generation was smitten by The Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Originally called Reign, the band gained national fame, changed its name to RAIN and cut the soundtrack to the madefor-TV movie Birth of The Beatles (thanks to Dick Clark). An accomplished pianist at 13,
having studied since age five, he began his career playing the Farfisa organ in teenage rock bands around his native Los Angeles. It was Mark, the original keyboard player with RAIN, who worked out all of the musical parts and sounds that enabled RAIN to bring to life many songs that The Beatles themselves never performed live.

The safety and well-being of our patrons, staff and artists remains RiverCenter’s top priority. We continue to monitor CDC Covid guidelines and area Covid cases and make updates as needed. RiverCenter continues its enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols and, at the current time, masks are welcomed, but not required for patrons or staff. BOX OFFICE: The box office at RiverCenter, located at the corner of Broadway and Tenth Street, is open Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It opens two hours before each performance and remains open through intermission. The box office is not open on federal holidays unless there is an event that day.
FREE PARKING: Parking is available in the parking garage directly in front of RiverCenter, 900 Broadway. Parking for those with disabilities is available in front of our main entrance. The garage is managed by the City of Columbus, not RiverCenter.
NO BABIES IN ARMS: Everyone attending a ticketed event, including all children regardless of age, must have a ticket.
BACKSTAGE AREAS RESTRICTED: For safety and security and out of respect for performers’ privacy, patrons are not given access to backstage areas before or after performances.
HOUSE OPENING AND LATE ARRIVALS: RiverCenter’s Grand Lobby opens two hours prior to events and seating begins 30 minutes to one hour before curtain. At the discretion of house management and in compliance with artists’ contractual agreements, latecomers will be seated at appropriate intervals during events. Latecomers may be seated near the entry doors out of courtesy to performers and other patrons.
PROHIBITED EQUIPMENT: Please be courteous and turn off devices such as cell phones and pagers. Photography and recording is prohibited in the theatres.
SMOKE-FREE POLICY: RiverCenter is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is permitted in outdoor areas only. Thank you for your cooperation.
ELEVATOR: A patron elevator is located between the entrances to Bill Heard Theatre and Studio Theatre.
WHEELCHAIRS: Wheelchairs are available for patrons needing help getting to or from seating. Ushers will provide assistance.
AUDIO AIDS: Subject to availability, infrared listening devices are available for hearing impaired patrons. They may be obtained free of charge by presenting personal identification to ushers.
LOST AND FOUND: Found items should be given to an usher for storing with RiverCenter Security. These items are retained by security for 30 days and then
donated. Owners may claim lost items by calling 706.256.3630 during regular business hours.
BAR SERVICE: Waiting in line is a thing of the past! With our new Harbor Touch Sky Tab system, ticket buyers can now order drinks and snacks as soon as they arrive! Simply follow these instructions:
FIRE NOTICE: Exits are indicated by red “exit” signs. In case of fire or other emergency, please do not run, but walk to the exit nearest to your seat.
EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS: The RiverCenter emergency phone number is 706.256.3630 and is accessible during event hours. Please provide this number and your seat location to your personal contacts or child care providers. If an emergency should happen during an event please locate the nearest usher or security team member.

The RiverCenter box office has tickets available for these series and events: TSYS Broadway on Broadway, Center Stage, RiverCenter ArtsReach, ArtsReach Matinees, The Wave Theatre Organ Series and the Family Series. Tickets also are available for programs presented by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, CSU Schwob School of Music, and various third-party presenters. The box office accepts cash, and all major credit cards: VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
SEASON TICKETS: Season tickets may be purchased at the box office, by telephone 706.256.3612 or with order forms in RiverCenter publications and mailings. Season subscriptions can be purchased with savings up to 30% off single seat prices.
MY SERIES PACKAGE: Tickets to RiverCenter events may be purchased at a 20% savings as a My Series Package. A My Series Package consists of at least one ticket to at least five events per patron.
GIFT CERTIFICATES: Available yearround in any dollar amount at the RiverCenter box office.
CUSTOM COMBOS: Tickets to RiverCenter events may be purchased at a 10% savings as Custom Combos. A
Custom Combo consists of at least one ticket to at least three events per patron.

SPECIAL DISCOUNTS: Patrons must come to the box office to take advantage of most special promotions and discounts with presentation of appropriate ID. Military, Public Service, Educator and Senior discounts are available on single ticket purchases to most events. Student Rush prices are available all day on the day-of-show at most events. Patrons using vouchers or gift certificates should note deadlines and restrictions that apply. No refunds are given for ticket price variances or special offers.
