COMMUNITY DAY PROGRAMME

09:30 - 10:00 Coffee and networking

10:00 - 10:15 Welcome and introductions with the risr/ team

10:15 - 11:00 Ethical Awareness and Equity: A 21st Century Approach to Assessment

Speaker: Dr Mary Richardson, Professor of Educational Assessment at UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. When educational assessments, notably tests, are examined through a lens of equity, the focus often rests on technical aspects of design or awarding. However, what does it mean to think in ethical ways about assessment? Dr Richardson discusses the ethics she believes are integral to being assessment literate in the twenty-first century. There is no ‘solution’ to addressing ethical challenges in the industry, just as there is no way to identify all potential ethical scenarios. What matters, however, is a willingness to recognise what might compromise all the efforts put into developing highly reliable and valid tests through the ‘hidden curriculum’ that resides in education and society at large.

11:00 - 11:15 risr/ in action: 2025 achievements and global impact

Speaker: Paul Glover, Chief Operating Officer

Paul will provide an overview of risr/’s activities and progress throughout 2025. It will highlight key achievements, developments across our platform, and the global reach of our work with partners and organisations.

11:15 - 11:50 Unified progress: Creating new and stronger integrations across the risr/ modules

Join the risr/ experts as they guide you through the latest integrations across risr/apply, risr/advance, and risr/assess. Learn how these enhanced connections are designed to streamline workflows, improve user experience, and provide even greater support for your role across the entire risr/ platform.

12:00 - 13:00 | BREAKOUT SESSIONS

Ethical Awareness and Equity: A 21st Century Approach to Assessment

Speaker: Dr Mary Richardson, Professor of Educational Assessment at UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society

This breakout session continues the conversation on ethics in assessment from this morning’s presentation. Together, we’ll delve into how ethical challenges, often unacknowledged, can shape the outcomes and experiences of assessment.

We’ll explore how these issues can affect even the most technically robust and well-designed tests.

Assessing professionalism in healthcare education: how to implement a systematic and effective programme

Speaker: Katherine Boursicout, Educational Advisor at risr/ and Managing Director at Health Professional Assessment Consultancy.

The aim of this workshop is to explore the latest evidence of best practice in the literature regarding the assessment of professionalism and the development of a coherent system of assessment across an entire programme.

OSCE assessment structure and standard setting

Speaker: Rob Newton, Psychometrician

At The University of Exeter Medical School, we have evolved and changed our OSCE assessment structure and standard setting methods over the past 13 years. This session will look at our journey from high stakes, large scale, end of year OSCE assessments to our current structure of testing little and often using termly OSCEs, with influences from the sequential testing approach. We will also explore the evolution of our standard setting methods at station level and longitudinally, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the different approaches to structuring OSCE assessment. The session will also include a workshop.
