Rising Edge team talk

Dear Friends of Rising Edge;

We are so pleased to welcoming you at Champions Hill, the home of the famous Dulwich Hamlet football Club.

A warm welcome to all our brokers, our eco-system partners, the members of the press, and even to our competitors! And of course, to our team! … and to the Amaniki team and their guests (more on this later!)

We are all here today, to celebrate starting our 4th underwriting year. Wow. Looking back, what happened since the 2023 Challenge Cup?

Firstly, we had to properly celebrate that the Market Sharks team (us!) lifted the first trophy last year! An epic 5-4 win against the Broker Bulls, including some stunning goals.

What else? Well, we’ve managed to successfully navigate a market that some call “moronic”, “shambolic” …or full of “idiots”. Looking at our underwriting metrics, I can think of a few lines of business in the London insurance market that would envy the underwriting performance we’ve had over the last 3 years. In fact, we, and our underwriting capital backers love it so much, that we now write it with £10m capacity! And we’ve launched

an innovative new D&O product: NED Protect!

What else new in the last 12months?

We have welcomed new members to the team: Miquel Scarlett, who we’ve poached from the Dulwich Hamlet team (no less!), and who joined us as a financial analyst, and to help us retain the trophy! We have also welcomed Nadia Monnan as an Underwriting Assistant, who made an immediate impact within our team with her uncompromising approach to perfection … and her no non-sense approach to life! And in the past few weeks, we also took on board a crop of talent direct from the London School of Economics – no less either! – with Hazam King joining our talented team as an underwriting assistant.

And of course, we’ve reached a key milestone – we have just announced that Rising Edge and Amaniki are joining forces to add Transactional Liability insurance to our Commercial D&O offering. More on this in the weeks to come!

So… we are delighted with your presence, and we look forward to enjoying this day with you, off and on the pitch!

Why do we supportHamlet?Dulwich

(Football and Values)

130 years of pink and blue

One hundred and thirty years ago a group of locals led by football enthusiast called Lorraine ‘Pa’ Wilson formed Dulwich Hamlet to play in the the new ‘Dulwich League’.

Later in the Isthmian League the club thrived, becoming known for it's friendly atmosphere and for winning multiple league and amatuer cup titles.

The Hamlet first played at Champion Hill in 1902 and stadium as you see it today was opened in 1992. It is to be replaced in the coming years by a new 4,000 capacity stadium which will be built behind the tall trees at the west end of the ground.

Amongst the many club legends Edgar Kail stands out. Between 1915 and 1933 Kail scored 427 goals, turned down professional contracts to stay here and he remains the last non-league player to turn out for the English national team –three times – which included him scoring in a match against France.

Famous recent ex-players include current Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock and Peter Crouch – although the latter was only here on loan from Spurs for seven games.

A thriving present

For 130 years The Hamlet have hovered around the upper tiers of non-league football, reasonably laying claim to being the most successful club never to acheive league status.

The last decade has seen the club rise up two leagues and attendances boom. Saturday men’s home matches regularly sell out the 3,300 capacity, and Sunday women’s matches often see 500 attend. These attendances are by far the highest of the two team’s respective leagues.

Dulwich Hamlet is a community football club, fan and supporter owned and run with 30% of it’s shares currently owned by the Supporter’s Trust. The Club, Trust and fans actively support many local community and charity initiatives as well as anti-racism, pro-diversity and inclusion campaigns. The club is also home to successful comedy and gig nights.

Rising Edge has been proud to support and sponsor Dulwich Hamlet since 2022. We regularly sponsor individual matches and if you’d like to join us to watch a match here please contact isabel@risingedge.co UP THE HAMLET!
