Brief:

Working in accordance with the L8 Matters CLT (Community Land Trust), the regeneration of Lodge Lane Gardens is a conceptual project aiming to provide a new social hub with affordable housing for young families and students in Liverpool, England. Six terrace houses are developed and intended to be sold at market rate to help offset the costs from the five rented 2-bed subsidized flats above the commercial. A residential flex space is provided at the corner as designated space that can be used for the tenants. It is intended to be a designated commercial unit that will provide jobs for the subsidized tenants. Additionally, the site is designed to encourage the involvement of tenants during the construction of the project. Incentiving tenants to help with finishes on site has been used by other CLT’s across England to reduce rent. Revisions were done independently to provide on-site parking.

Vanier Community Service Centre (VCSC)

Brief:

Located in eastern Ottawa, Ontario Canada, the Vanier Community Service Centre (VCSC) is a proof-of-concept mixed-use development scheme. After the success of the Daniel Spectrum Cultural Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, this project aims to provide the VCSC organization a community driven facility to centralize their services, while providing housing for the city. Housing is provided in the two towers above the podium, which would occupy the VCSC and commercial units. The larger tower on the west contains 148 units being market-rate, while the shorter tower on the east contains 60 subsidized-rate units. This is done intentionally as the higher costing market-rate units would help offset the costs in construction and site maintenance, which would have been lost from the subsidized-rate units.

Brief:

As a way to extend downtown Ottawa and unite existing industrial typologies with new businesses, this project aims to promote commerce, culture, arts, and recreation with the surrounding infrastructure. Given the proximity of Highway 417, Tremblay VIA Rail Station, and multiple Ottawa Light Rail (OC Transpo) stops, the site has conditions that can support higher density and 24-hour programming. Existing typologies such as the Hampton Inn & Courtyard Conference Centre, federal offices, and fire station are maintained, while big-box commercial and surface parking is replaced with mixed-use buildings and various art, culture and recreation centres. The existing RCGT Baseball Stadium is amplified to hypothetically stimulate economic growth in the area and promote entertainment. All long-term parking is shifted underground to maximize development.

Brief:

Designed as an ‘Urban Retreat’, the Cliffside Community Conservation Masterplan aims to develop a peninsula in Gravenhurst, Ontario that contains an abandoned tuberculosis hospital that was tied to controversy. Being in close proximity to downtown Gravenhurst, the site is seen to help accommodate for tourism during the summer months as it is the town’s most profitable industry sector. The new development intends to build upon the original conditions of the site to emphasizes the attributes of ‘Retreat Urbanism’, in which the idea of living within nature is utilized as a method of healing. This is done by stabilizing the site through its programming, as well as embracing the decaying hospital to state the message that all things including the living return to the earth, and are never resistant to change. Additionally, other economic goals from the community outreach were factors for the concept.

Carleton Architecture Merchandise Concepts

Brief:

At Carleton’s Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism, a yearly merchandise design competition takes place among students. Normally, this competition restricts students to design within a 10’x10’ box on either a hoodie, crewneck, or a t-shirt. Additionally, text is restricted to terms associated to the school (ex. ‘Carleton’, ‘Architecture’, ‘Urbanism’, etc.). With this, I wanted to explore a scenario in which the school creates a full catalogue. Using identifiable features such as the school itself, the various logos, and colour scheme, a set of clothing and tote bags were designed.

Brief:

The custom 32-team NHL league is a passion project that stems from my interests in hockey, video games, and visual design. The EA Sports NHL video game franchise is likely my most played game and with each subsequent game, the featured Creation Zone expands its library of custom jerseys and logos across North America. With these assets, I develop a range of new franchises that are popular in other leagues, originate in untraditional markets, rumoured to be expanded into the league in real life, or real teams that have been retired. Throughout the creation of these teams, it allows me to develop a brand that is identifiable to the city the team is based in. This set of teams are from the NHL 23 game, prior to the announcement of the Arizona Coyotes relocating to Utah. Following editions of this project will look to replace Utah and bring the Coyotes back to the league.
