OVERVIEW
THIS PORTFOLIO CONSISTS OF MY ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICE THROUGHOUT MY SECOND SEMESTER OF ARCHITECTURE AT KENNESAW STATE UNIVERSITY. THIS PORTFOLIO INCLUDES VARIOUS FORMS OF DRAWING AND MODEL MAKING.

COMPOSITIONS
USING A SELECTION OF QUILTS CREATED BY GEE’S BEND IN ALABAMA, STUDENTS WERE TASKED WITH CREATING A NEW COMPOSITION FROM THE QUILTS. BY CREATING CONSTRCTION LINES AT NOTICABLE ELEMENTS IN THE QUILTS, WE WERE ABLE TO EXTRACT UNIQUE IDEAS FROM THE QUILTS. THESE COMPOSITIONS LED TO TECTONIC ANS STEREOTOMIC MODEL EXPLORATIONS AND IN THE END WE MERGED ONE STEREOTOMIC MODEL AND ONE TECTONIC MODEL TO CREATE A HYBRID. I FOCUSED ON USING VOIDS TO SHOW A CONNECTION BETWEEN TWO COMPOSITIONS AND TO SHOW HEIRARCHY WITHIN SOME ELEMENTS OF THE MODEL.
PLANNING
TO BEGIN, I SELECTED QUILTS THAT WERE HIGHLY ABSTRACT AND ASYMMETRICAL. THIS IS BECAUSE THE GOAL WAS TO BE AS DYNAMIC AS POSSIBLE AND TO ACHIEVE THAT, ASYMMETRY WAS NEEDED. I APPROACHED THIS BY DRAWING CONSTRUCTION LINES WHERE SHAOES AND COLORS SHOWED THE BEST. BY CONTINUING THIS THROUGH LAYERS OF TRACE PAPER, I WAS ABLE TO DRAW A NEW COMPOSITION FROM THE OLD ONE.

PRECEDENT STUDY
STUDENTS BEGAN A PRECEDENT STUDY TO UNDERSTAND HOW BUILDINGS ARE MADE. WE ANALYZED AND STUDIES PARTIS TO GRASP AN UNDERSTANDING OF BUILDING TECTONICS. THE FINAL PRODUCT WAS A SECTION MODEL THAT DISPLAYED THE IMPORTANT AND IDENTIFYING ELEMENTS OF THE DESIGN. THE NEXT STEP WAS TO TRANSFORM ELEMENTS OF THE PRECEDENT INTO AN ABSTRACT IDEA. STUDENTS DOCUMENTED NOTICABLE AND REPEATABLE ELEMENTS AND USED THEM TO CREATE A COMPOSITION THAT WAS BASED ON A SYSTEM. THE GOAL WAS TO DERIVE AN ABSTRACT CONCEPT THAT ADHERED TO THE RULES.
PLANNING
TO BEGIN, I BEGAN TO DIAGRAM NOTICABLE ELEMENTS WITHIN THE ORTHOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTS. MY GOAL WAS TO ESTABLISH HOW KENGO
KUMA CREATED THE YUSUHARA BRIDGE MUSEUM. I DOCUMENTED HOW PIECES CAME TOGETHER AND CONCLUDED THAT THERE WAS A USE OF A DATTO JOINT THROUGHOUT BOTH THE STRUCTURE AND THE SPACE.
KUMA JOINED THE BRIDGE ELEMENT WITH TH STRUCTURE THROUGH THIS JOINT AS WELL AS THE STRUCTURAL PIECES THEMSELVES. I BEGAN TO USE THIS UNDERSTANDING THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE MODULE.

A SPACE TO ESCAPE
TO BEGIN THIS MODULE STUDENTS USED A PREVIOUS MODULDE AS INSPIRATION TO CREATE A SPACE TO ESCAPE. THE PROGRAM REQUIRED 4-6 PRIVATE SPACES AND ONE GROUP SPACE. STUDENTS WERE TOLD TO PICK AN OPERATIVE WORD THAT DESCRIBED THE PREVIOUS MODULE AND TO OBEY THAT OPERATIVE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS SPACE. THE FINAL PRODUCT WAS A SPACE TO ESCAPE THAT OCCUPIED A SITE ON CAMPUS.
PLANNING
TO BEGIN, I DECIDED ON THE OPERATIVE “DISSOLVE.” TO CONVEY THIS I CREATED PARTI MODELS OF ELEMENTS THAT I COULD USE TO CONVEY DISSOLVE EITHER THROUGH MODULES OR SPACE ITSELF. THEN I DIAGRAMED BASIC LAYOUTS BASED ON PREVIOUS RULES I USED IN THE PRECEDENT TRANSFORMATION. BY EXPERIMENTING WITH MODULAR IDEAS, I LANDED ON THE CONCEPT OF USING KINETIC WALLS TO POPULATE THE SITE AND GET DENSE TOWARDS THE SPACES, AND SPREAD OUT AS THEY GET FURTHER FROM THE SPACE.
