Architectural Student Portfolio 2024

In a would such as this, believe it is imperative for me to develop competencies that can supplement my content knowledge which is likely to be freely available with a major influx of robotics in every field. I am a student Architect allowing myself to combine the best aspects of my personality to deliver the best in my line of learnings. SELECTED WORKS

The will to meaning is a primary motivational force.Selected works range from diverse experiences and an evolving design philosophy that spans multiple scales and contexts. From my early work in urban design and large-scale mixed-use projects to my more recent explorations in hospitality, academic campuses, and residential developments, each project represents a deliberate inquiry into how space can foster human connection, innovation, and well-being.

My approach is grounded in a commitment to the seamless integration of functionality and aesthetics, creating environments that respond both to the needs of the users and the unique characteristics of the site. Whether designing the intricate details of a single building or planning the expansive flow of a city district, focus on creating spaces that are both timeless and forward-thinking, elevating everyday experiences through thoughtful, sustainable design.

As my portfolio expands, aim to continue pushing the boundaries of design, blending a respect for context with a desire to innovate. The works presented reflect my personal brand—an evolving exploration of form, materiality, and human-centered design, each piece contributing to a broader narrative of architecture as an agent of positivechange.

MIGRANTS COMMUNITY CENTRE

MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA

A city as vast as Mumbai is characterised by a multitude of traditions, which are manifested especially in the customs of the population. The presence and search for a feeling of belonging in the life of a migrant is where began designing. With the combination of elements like opportunity and balance it is possible to express the will of the community and live in harmonY. New urban typology to address social, economic and environmental issues sets architectural challenges.. the idea of standing in front of such a landscape promotes the inside out of the space, the purpose of the edges in plan, refers to perspective views as well as the ease of looking back into your own personal spaces through these curtain walls like a view in itself.

CONCEPT EVOLUTION

This scheme for a new neighbourhood of over 700 new dwellings is located in central Mumbai, India. It protfers an alternative to the generally impoverished nature of slum replacement housing. A ground-scape of social infrastructure including, temples, cinemas, workshops and retail space, seeks to re-create the community vibrancy of the existing slum neighbourhoods. The entire development is conceived as a walled village with ‘strategic penetrations, punctuated by a series of hierarchical courtyards which provide thresholds from Neighbourhood to community level and to the level of smaller clusters, fostering a ‘sense of ownership and belonging. A dual-aspect dwellings are clustered around central atria with a central courtyard, which maximises cross ventilation and stack effect, and therefore increases passive cooling of the entire building.

SITE PLANNING

Take the inside outside large openings to connect inside with outside Shaded outside areas as alternative to inside space Larger glazing ratios Shading where needed. Sawtooth facing north limits glare by facing away from direct sun. Cooler daylight from northern sky. Great view of northern sky. Decent sense of time passing.

GROWTH PATTERN

New typology to address social, economical, commercial, environmental issues sets architectural challenges such as relation between public, common and private spaces, personalisation of more spaces and surfaces, servant spaces and their realtionship to public and private, banning heat gain and heat loss (warm and humid), design attribute spaces with atmospheres and changing experience. The problem that is faced here space consumption moving from rural to urban areas due to lack of opportunities.. Through the process of space metamorphosis the entire process has been redone and understood in a way that helps the user adapt to these circumstances that they face and made it feasible for these migrants to afford such a luxury.

SITE PLANNING

Courtyards in buildings have been recommended as passive design elements to maintain indoor thermal ‘comfort through controlled natural ventilation during day and night times ~ Ifthe roof surfaces are sloped towards the internal courtyard, the cooled air sinks into the court an the living space through low-level openings, get warmed up, and leaves the room through higher level openings., due to incident solar radiation in a courtyard, the air gets warmer and rises. Cool air from the ground |flow through the louvered openings of rooms ‘surrounding a courtyard, thus producing air flow. At night, the warm roof surfaces get cooled by and radiation.

Work done as a part of community volunteer work. Analysing the social and economical structure of the migrants and assembling a habitat system that is feasible for their use and portable when on the move.

The design is based on the usage of the migrants and for the ease of transport to various site locations. It is also consturctured using locally available materials that are abundant in the market. This is aquired much easily than the existing raw materials used for their current shelter.

GROUND FLOOR MASTER PLAN

SURATKAL, INDIA

In relation to the temple in context - the function of a sthambam is that it scientifically resonates energy around a space with stones - reception of energy. Height of light house have all ways asserted dominance and marked territories from the past. Has the lighthouse turned to just being a viewing deck while the functions become obsolete?

This is an attempt at question the existing context and establish a new paradigm for lighthouses in our technologically advanced but environmentally taxed contemporary context.

CONCEPTUALLY

In relation to the temple in context the function of a sthambam is that it scientifically resonates energy around a space with stones reception of energy.

Alighthouse is not just a wayfinding structure. It is hope. its a faith in the unknown and the only path to home. This is an attempt at questioning the existing context and

MARINE MUSEUM

SURATKAL, INDIA

The project is about territory and architecture. The theory, its simultaneous invention, intention & inflection. As in, one cannot exist without the other. The project is a manufacture of an architectural project of choice and merit and at the same time conjure up a territory that benefits and befits the reciprocity of both. This project is located nearby to the surathkal coast, same as the previous project. This project focuses on the heirrchy of space planning with relation to the intent of this design program.

SITE PLANNING

The site is located on the coast adjoining the arabian sea. The site implements various aspects of climate and weathering to focus the planning to a more minimal and climatic approach. The intent is to create various zoning levels within the site and vertically for different types of users and visitors as well. The design also consists of an auditorium on the east wing of the central building.

DRONE DROME

MOUNTAIN RANGES, HYPOTHETICAL

This machine aesthetic concept is a smart pod visioned with an automatic instrument landing system. It is attached with an autonomous drone, with futuristic moving. The idea is your drone is docked to your pod, becoming an extension to your bridge pod unit that has propeller extensions collapsing as the pod lands on the bridge platform. The design on the pod is seamless as the motive is to experience the wide open sou and landscapes. The motivation is to blur the line between mobility and living, integrating the futuristic drone.

APPROACH

ON A BRIDGE OF ALLEGORIES

Simple Definition of allegory a story in which the characters and events are symbols that stand for ideas about human life or for a political or historical situation

PROGRAMME: A set of 11 dwellings on a bridge/design

SITE: Span 60m long, 4m in height and 6 wide

Scale and proportion of the dwelling to the structure of the bridge. The bridge is independant of the design program and may depend on the structural facilities. An idea driven design for high altitude habitation and transportation. Dispersign the idea of housing with objects that can float in free speace. The narative based on scenographic conditions. a bit of structure, logic and a sense of materiality.

UNDERWATER PORTABLE HABITAT

UNDERWATER, HYPOTHETICAL

Exploring the creative side of habitat design, to imagine a utopian world on/under water considering the aspects of innovation, originality and limitations of a sustainable habitat that is constructed under water. A water room that can flexibly cope with its living environment and can freely control its own dimension, move freely and can easily dock. The evolving facade design along with its portable function proves to be effective in countering the limitations of building underwater habitats and to prove the freedom of design in highly dangerous environments.

CLUSTER GENERATION

HOW TO DO INFILL IN A WALKABLE DISTRICT?

Fundamentally, cities are a collection of three things, buildings, streets and people live in a city that has experienced rapid growth and development in the past decade. With the advent of IT and Tech hubs the city began attracting a large number of people from the state and from all over the country. The problem arises when we have to consider how to sustainably design a district that has the potential to infill and welcome people to experience this city by foot. My desire to write this project stems from an insight to answer this particular question and all that it entails. This is because of the growing recognition that compact, mixed-use, and walkable urban environments offer numerous social, economic, and environmental benefits, includ-ing reduced car dependence, improved public health, and increased social interaction.

SHRAVANABELA GOLA

URBAN DESIGN

The study of Shravanabelagola, located near Channarayapatna in Karnataka, reveals the profound transformation of a once forested region into a vibrant urban and spiritual center. Emerging as a significant Jain pilgrimage site in the 9th-10th centuries, the town evolved from a retreat for spiritual transcendence, marked by the presence of Bhadrabahu and Chandragupta Maurya, into a focal point of cultural and religious development. The construction of Jain shrines (basadis) around water bodies and the establishment of settlements initiated the town’s urbanization, with the iconic hills of Chandragiri and Vindhyagiri framing the town's spiritual and architectural narrative. The evolution of Shravanabelagola is a testament to the integration of nature, architecture, and spirituality, capturing the interplay between sacred space and the surrounding environment. The town’s growth, driven by the construction of intricate temples and the strategic use of its natural resources, exemplifies the lasting influence of Jain art, architecture, and philosophy. The presence of a temple dedicated to Chandragupta Maurya further underscores Shravanabelagola’s historical and spiritual legacy, encapsulating a story of cultural transformation that unfolds through its landscape and built environment.

ANALYSIS

GAS PLANT SITE

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA

People in St. Petersburg like to walk. The Historic Gas Plant District to be especially walkable with short blocks, small streets and alleys, bustling sidewalks, human scale street walls, and clustered shade trees. The mix of uses guarantees that the district is “always open,” day and night, rain or shine, seven days a week. That creates activity, people, and safety. The HGPD is green. Sugar Hill Park is a green spine running through the center of the district. 16th Street S. is a landscaped corridor, connecting the project south to Campbell Park. Nature manifests throughout the project through fruit trees, gardens, parklets, flowers, and beehives on buildings.

SECOND AVENUE SHOPS

Named after the rail line built by African American labourers in the late 19th century that first connected St. Petersburg economically to the rest of Florida, Orange Belt Alley is a warren of narrow alleyways connected to 2nd Avenue S. Orange Belt Alley twists and shifts as it moves between 16th and 11th Streets S., a shady environment popular even in hot and inclement weather, with nooks and crannies inviting exploration and discovery.

ORANGE BELT ALLEY

16TH ST WALK: THE CULTURAL CORRIDOR

16th Street S. is the project’s most vital north-south artery, a green urban spine connecting Central Ave. and the EDGE District to the north to Campbell Park and South St. Petersburg to the south. Our plan calls for re-imagining 16th Street S. as a great linear park serving as an important part of our storm water management plan.

The skating rink activates the area below the freeway, creating a comfortable and active pedestrian portal. St Pete has mainly developed strong pedestrian avenues moving pedestrians in an East-West direction.

PINELLAS TRAILHEAD

SUGARHILL PARK

A transformed Booker Creek will be the green heart of the redeveloped HGPD. Reflecting on the opportunities identified through the recent STAR Communities evaluation, we understand that enhancing natural systems remains a priority and a place for growth for the city.

The Pinellas Trail, part of a larger bike trail network across the region, cuts through the site, it engages and activates the HGPD and provides a crucial link between the Downtown Business District and the Warehouse Arts District. Designed with a casual vitality.

WALKING

WALKING

Walking is the emphasis throughout the district, with active sidewalks, crosswalks, parks, squares, alleys, and shared streets. There is a significant pedestrian amenity on every street and every block. A restored street grid of short blocks extends the proposed new urban fabric and integrates it into the surrounding context. Crosswalks at each intersection improve options for pedestrians. Long streets like 16th Street S. and 1st Avenue S. are designed with improved infrastructure for walking like shaded arcades and landscaped medians.

Sugar Hill Park and Laurel Heritage Park create large pedestrian areas. A shared street on Second Avenue Shops, between 12th Street S. and 16th Street S., is pedestrian first thoroughfare where vehicles are heavily calmed. Orange Belt Alley between 1st and 2nd Avenues S. offers more comfortable and engaging walking Environments.

PROPOSED SOCIAL CAPITAL

The Historic Gas Plant neighborhood was a significant part of St Petersburg’s African American culture particularly during the era of formal racial segregation. The neighborhood was a mixed-use economic center of the Black community. This social capital created relationship networks within the community that strengthened it culturally and economically. In so doing, we are remembering and acknowledging the social capital that once existed in the Gas Plant and generating new social equity as we look forward to the redeveloped HGPD.

DOWNSVIEW HANGAR DISTRICT

TORONTO, ONTARIO

A compact and walkable district of existinf hangar buildings and new midrise development that together create a unique workplace environment. A compact and walkable urban district will kick-start the first phase of development at the Downsview Airport Lands by offering a vision for a new workplace. Inspired by the site’s aviation and manufacturing history, the plan proposes a midrise district where preserved historic hangars and new mercantile buildings come together to create a unique Toronto neighborhood. With its focus on ground level planning and a design approach that integrates the buildings and the public realm as one, the district introduces a variety of active urban environments.

Kick-starting the Framework Plan

As a mixed-use district with a focus on employment generation, the sub-district is envisioned to be actively used in all seasons and at all times of the day. Upon completion, the District will support approximately 7,550 direct jobs and 2,850 units (4,940 residents).

As a mixed-use district with a focus on employment, the proposed street and block plan breaks away from the orthogonal city grid to create a compact and walkable district that break the prevailing winds to promote the use of outdoors even in harsh Toronto winters. The sub-district will be a front door to the film studios, oriented to the future framework plan along the historic taxiway. The site will integrate into the existing residential Ancaster neighborhood and and extend the

corridor.

FORDHAM LANDING SOUTH

NEW YORK, NY

A compact and walkable district of existing hangar buildings and new mid rise development that to Fordham Landing South marks a key gateway to the Bronx a 3.7 acre site located at the edge of the Harlem River. The site is framed on the north by the historic University Heights Bridge between Manhattan and the Bronx, and one of the Bronx’s key marterials - Fordham Road. Immediately to the the east of the site, the Metro North corridor and Major Deegan Expressway are key transit and traffic corridors respectively, but discourage pedestrian access to the site.
