Imitating Neural Networks

Editorji is a News media and technology office in Sultanpur-New Delhi, Founded by Mr. Vikram Chandra (Former CEO of NDTV 2011-2016) in January 2018.

The Editorji office design is inspired by the digital representation of artificial neural networks which inter-connect functions with complex networks of branches. The flowing cyan blue pipes form the networks physically and virtually connecting desks, studios, servers, display surfaces, and light fittings.

Combining two office spaces acquired at different times & stitching them together for both function and aesthetic was a major challenge. Furniture and partitions in the new office area were remodeled. The two office spaces were reprogrammed and combined to meet the needs of the expanding media office.

Programmatically, Editorji functions as a media office with a dedicated studio and meeting spaces, a newsroom, private offices, a dedicated studio, AV booths, and a series of formal and informal meeting spaces for brainstorming.

Given the versatility of the fields in which editorji works, we felt spaces should also adapt to become backdrops when needed. Cafe seating with open counter backdrop & Informal seating areas were designed for collaboration and brainstorming. Together with the hand lettering team ‘Avantika letters’, several surfaces were animated to present facts about the technology industry and the science behind the application. The color palette and visual cues came from the client logo & identity designed by the editorji team.

The client brief for the office was well detailed which included reception cum waiting area, Conference room, Meeting room, Regional Manager’s cabin and workstations for 12 persons along with utility areas.

The spatial experience of the office revolves around a centrally placed meeting room as a ‘volume within volume’ with the reception and the waiting space in the front of the main entry creating a ‘sense of arrival’. Workstations are arranged in pods while giving an outside view to each individual within the office. The visual interest is generated through a lattice suspended, colored false ceiling with open and closed voids which also knits together all the workstations. Plants are incorporated as part of the office design as a gesture to bring in nature.

Kudri Waterfront development a project of Waterworks Department, Chattisgarh proposed a socio-economic upliftment project for the Adivasis living in the Janjgir-Champa District to increase their engagement in the social structure of the city nearby. The park is one of the parts of the project for social engagement and celebratory purposes of the Adivasis. The banks of Mahanadi River is shared by both city dwellers and nearby adivasis. The landscape project aimed to promote local vegetation and trees which made it easier to maintain the park and fulfills the vision of the project.

One notable project I worked on is the renovation of the Hindu Prarthana Samaj in Toronto. Tasked with giving the existing structure a modern look while incorporating all the essential design elements of a traditional Hindu Temple, I aimed to provide the community with a space they could truly call workship place.

With this project, I demonstrated strong project management skills by effectively coordinating with the structural team, design team, and City of Toronto Inspector. By ensuring smooth collaboration and communication among stakeholders.

Design with the feel of grandeur. The entrance of the building is a double heighted space with access elevator.

The Main Hall also is a 14 feet high visually unobstrcted space with carpeted interior where worshippers spend their time in peace meditating. The space will also be acoustically insulated. The Hall can carry out events with large number of people. The right side of the main floor is dedicated as a locker room where visitors can clean-up and store their belongings.

development & Presentation

The client brief for the project was to develop a self sustainable park with designates space for farming, food stalls and display stalls to showcase different types of manure making process for school educational tours.

As the environmental concerns move increasingly to the forefront of public knowledge, more and more communities are looking for outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and sustainable. Thus, sustainable and eco-parks have become very significant in today’s design space. Such a park is essentially a space that’s made to preserve natural resources and promote quality of life for the people around it. It uses a variety of techniques and good practices to reduce waste and pollution while efficiently using the resources at hand.

The objective of the proposal was to create one of its kind Eco Park that not only serves as a recreational outdoor space in the highly urban and industrialized city of Kanpur but also takes a step towards spreading awareness about several waste management systems that can be implemented at an individual level. It uses a variety of techniques and good practices to reduce waste and pollution while efficiently using the resources at hand. It also aims at creating an energy-efficient space to increase awareness and improve environmental quality.

The structure of the Solar-powered food stalls follows a similar design aesthetic used throughout the

Gabion walls- Periphery walls that would serve two purposes; the walls do not need a concrete footing which prevents unnecessary digging; the walls are porous and do not cause an obstruction for the water to seep into the ground.

The park offers a waste collection system for people to dispose of their kitchen and household waste, which can be used to make manure & use in the organic farms within the park.

+ Several dustbins to be placed throughout the site that would help in onsite segregation while also making the public aware of what kind of waste is recyclable and biodegradable.

+ The park to be home to a variety of native flora and fauna that would ensure rapid growth, fewer resources for maintenance and be better for the soil and the environment.

+ The park would have a ‘Tree Identification System’ which would help the maintenance workers as well as the public to identify the species of trees throughout the park.

Bio Swales - The park would house bioswales along the pathway which would catch rainwater and any other water runoff and direct it into the ground which would help to recharge the central pond.

+ There would be minimal paving inside the park and porous materials would be used as much as possible.

+ The park will be powered using solar power. All the lights and cooking provisions in the food stalls would be powdered through solar energy to achieve energy efficiency.

+ The park uses an integrated pest management system. This entails that instead of using chemicals and pesticides, the park uses methods like traps and the introduction of sterile insects into the park. This would limit the pests inside the park thus reducing the chemical burden over the park.

Accessible Green Roofs strategically placed across the park that captures views of the landscape. The stalls offer live displays and detailed information on the di fferent ways of composting. park.

MD Road Housing

Architecture 8 View from main road

Breaking the Monotony

The project is designed to create a new standard for high-end housing in Jaipur.

A historical structure – a Baradari is located at the center of the plot which was to be maintained and respected as per the client’s brief.

Several massing options were suggested early on for the project. The location and massing format selected was based on increasing the depth of view from the street and simultaneously avoiding dominating Baradari with built mass.

Recommendations were made to keep the ground floor mostly stilted to compliment the colonnade of the Baradari and retain it as a visible focal object.

A retail block with street access is suggested at the ground level. The extended landscape design was created to incorporate the roof of the retail block and integrate the Baradari within a single large open space.
