A Letter from the Co-Founder and Chair of Able Athletics Dear Ms. Viders, When we began Able Athletics in 2020 with an initiative to enable inclusion within athletics, we started off with five participants at our first-ever lacrosse clinic in Scarsdale. Flash forward three years to our most recent highly successful sessions at Rippowam Cisqua School, where we hosted 36 students for lacrosse and field hockey, respectively, on many Saturdays throughout last year. Students, parents, volunteers, and community members began joining our programs for adaptive sports by the dozens — inspiring a great deal of inclusion — and we couldn’t be more proud. We are growing bigger and faster than we could have imagined, and it is in large part thanks to the generosity of institutions like yours. Our organization, focused on inclusive athletics for all learning and physical abilities, will unveil chair basketball and volleyball seasons this 2023–24 school year, now that RCS has offered even greater use of your gym facilities. We are hopeful that chair sports will continue on a regular basis and that our ability to access even more equipment will help make it all possible. The ongoing use of RCS’ donated gym space has supported our programs in providing us a needed location. You’ve opened up your home, providing unlimited access to your space, along with provisions from your kind, caring maintenance staff, which prepared the space beforehand and after we finished our events — ensuring that we continually feel comfortable and at home. This has been invaluable to us. Perhaps even greater than the space itself is having RCS middle school athletes donate their time to this effort, which makes the greatest impact here. Seeing RCS students come out to welcome and understand kids with different abilities is nothing short of incredible. All our volunteers participate in an onboarding course that delves deeper into the understanding of inclusion. Your students’ leadership embodies the spirit of giving back to the community, and together we feel so fortunate to make a difference in creating a world where everyone is able to pursue their passions and thrive. With gratitude for your growing partnership with us,

Vanessa Dias Co-Founder, Chair, Able Athletics

Rippowam Cisqua School and Able Athletics are both proud recipients of generous grants from the Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation. We are collectively grateful for their support, which enhances programming for deserving children and families.

SPECIAL THANKS Andrew K. Dwyer ’98, brother to trustee and parent Nancy Dwyer Eaves ’92 and parent Elly Dwyer Rice ’94, and son of Cindy and Andy, had an enthusiasm for life and concern for others by consistently finding ways to support children who had less of an advantage than he had. The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation (AKDF), created in his honor, provides opportunities to deserving young people across a broad spectrum of needs. Whether the grant is for tuition assistance or community athletic programs, the foundation impacts each child’s life.

A Letter from an Associate Teacher Dear Ms. Callaghan, I am so grateful to you and the RCS community, which has been a tremendously welcoming environment over the last four years. I chose to work at RCS because of the close community and the support. I see it with the students, my head teachers, the administration, and the parents. After graduating from Binghamton University in 2020, I have spent the last two years falling in love with teaching at RCS. The Associate Teacher Program offered me an opportunity to work in a classroom while gaining hands-on experience and learning from teachers who are all passionate about what they do. I continue to learn so much from collaborating with grade level teams and gain knowledge on a daily basis. My head teachers have been remarkable mentors while navigating new experiences within the classroom. Nicole Levy, Nora Zahner, and Lindsay Zaremba work to create an inclusive and nurturing environment for the associate teachers to feel supported and understood, ultimately creating a positive atmosphere within the building. Since joining RCS, I decided to further my education at Bank Street College of Education to complete a degree in Early Childhood General and Special Education. Once I complete my Masters degree, my goal is to become a head teacher. I owe the RCS Associate Teacher Program so much for giving me the tools to one day achieve this goal.

SPECIAL THANKS The Barbara M. Vincent P ’79, ’81, ’84, GP ’07, ’08, ’14, ’16, ’16, ’18 Memorial Fund, founded by her family in honor of her, was a former RCS alumni parent and the first female Board chair serving between 1982–1985. The fund was created to provide graduate study grants to our faculty and associate teachers. Barbara, a former principal of Educator’s Ally, who counseled many teachers and administrators about their jobs and careers, was particularly instrumental in developing intern teaching programs in a number of independent schools. The fund supports beginning teachers and awards scholarship grants annually to intern teachers who wish to begin their graduate study. Barbara was described by the late Dick Wade in the fall of 1993 as “an extraordinary leader who held a clear vision.”

5 | RIPPOWAM CISQUA SCHOOL

The Associate Teacher Program, funded by The Barbara M. Vincent Memorial Fund, is vital for our Lower School. It ensures two teachers per classroom, low student ratios, and top early-stage educators. RCS offers associate teachers a $2,000– $3,000 annual stipend for graduate education. Many have excelled in education, and we’re proud to contribute to their achievements.

A Letter from a New Teacher Dear Ms. Eleck, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the invaluable guidance and support you have provided me and my fellow cohort of new faculty members as we embarked on our journey at RCS. I’ve been fortunate enough to pursue my passion and teach middle school science for the past 13 years, including at The Stanwich School in Greenwich, Connecticut, and New Canaan Country School in New Canaan, Connecticut. While I’ve had incredible experiences in both public and private school systems, there’s something truly unique about RCS that sets it apart. At the heart of the RCS community, there’s a palpable pulse of joy, love, and interconnectedness. It’s a place where everyone who walks through the doors each morning feels an undeniable sense of belonging and purpose. This familial and supportive atmosphere resonates with the passion and talents that each member contributes, creating an environment where everyone is genuinely valued. Students eagerly rush through the doors, excited to learn, while faculty and staff radiate energy, positivity, and a genuine love for their work. Thanks to you, Ms. Eleck, I felt this incredible energy from the moment we first met. Your warmth and openness created an environment where my cohort and I felt comfortable asking questions and seeking advice. Your willingness to share your experiences, insights, and even personal anecdotes not only helped us navigate the challenges of our new roles but also gave us a sense of belonging within the school community. Your deep knowledge of the school’s culture, values, and processes was instrumental in easing our transition, and your patience and encouragement inspired us to strive for excellence. Thank you for balancing your own responsibilities with your commitment to mentoring us throughout the year. Your generosity in giving your time and expertise, even amidst your busy schedule, was truly commendable and reflective of your dedication to our growth and success. Reflecting upon the past year at RCS, I am reminded of the immense value of your guidance and support. Your successful implementation of the New Teacher Mentor Program was a welcoming and enriching experience for my cohort of new faculty members, myself, and my family. Thank you for your dedication, your passion, and your unwavering commitment to helping new faculty members thrive within the RCS community.

Ms. Corcoran is in her second year of teaching eighth grade physics at RCS and this year, we were thrilled to welcome her daughter Grace to the community as well — joining us in Kindergarten.

The RCS Mentorship and Growth Program uses a cohort model led by Director Brooks Eleck to ensure that new faculty and staff feel supported during their first year. Mentoring is the first part of the engagement process. New staff and faculty are then folded into the Professional Development and Growth Program, which continues to foster development, leadership, and belonging on a school-wide and individual basis.

With heartfelt thanks and warm regards,

Jen Corcoran P ’33 Upper School Science Teacher GIVING IMPACT REPORT | 6

Alumni Stories Thousands of students have graduated from Rippowam Cisqua School. After leaving RCS, alumni often return to our Bedford campus, a true testament to the impact Ripp continues to have on their lives. We love hearing from our former students, and are grateful to share a few of their stories with you.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Brandon Peterson ’18 The Frederick Gunn School ’21 Howard University ’25

After graduating from RCS in 2018, I attended The Gunnery, which is now called The Frederick Gunn School. I had a wonderful experience there and I believe going to Ripp thoroughly prepared me to participate in such a unique high school experience. The high educational standards and amazing faculty are two of the many reasons why attending RCS prepared me best for the next steps in my life. However, I think more often than not, I find myself reflecting on the amazing friendships I made. Ripp’s small class sizes and family-oriented environment made it the perfect place to establish lifelong relationships. Ripp gave all my friends and me the opportunity to form bonds built off of so many memorable experiences that came about through the different activities, programs, and traditions we all had to go through together. The ninth grade Capstone project was an invaluable learning experience that further solidified my public speaking, presentation, and project management skills. These skillsets have set me apart from my peers as I’ve moved on beyond RCS. I am currently in the Howard University School of Business majoring in Finance and I recently finished my second summer interning at a private equity firm in New York City. In fact, this opportunity came through my RCS network. It wasn’t until my freshman year at Howard that I really started to gain an interest in finance. Right now I am working on applying to be a Business Columnist for my school newspaper and preparing for my internship next summer.

Christine Colley ’06 Executive Managing Director Jones Lang LaSalle Alumni Association Board Member Groton School ’09 Trinity College ’13

I was at Rippowam Cisqua School for 12 years, from JPK through Grade 9. I was a member of the Blue Team. Go Blue! Today, I oversee a team that partners with companies in the acquisition, disposition, renewal, relocation, or consolidation of real estate nationally and globally. It is an exciting and challenging time for our industry and filled with opportunity. RCS taught me many valuable lessons, both inside and outside of the classroom, the most notable being leadership. There were so many opportunities to enter into leadership roles, culminating in ninth grade. It truly set the foundation for high school, college, and now my professional career. If someone asked me whether I would be in commercial real estate, my answer definitely would have been no. I stumbled into the industry with an internship at Cushman & Wakefield, and now I’ve spent 11 years in real estate. I wasn’t trained in the traditional sense but rather given responsibilities that self-motivated me to figure things out and build my strengths professionally. The best advice I received early on in my career that always stays with me was, “If someone thinks you can do it and you can’t — YOU CAN. If no one thinks you can do it, but you think you can — YOU CAN.”

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Jenifer Rajkumar ’97 State Assemblywoman, District 38 Lawyer and Professor Hackley School ’00 University of Pennsylvania ’04 Stanford Law School

In 2020, I became the first South Asian woman to be elected in New York State. I practiced law and directed immigration here and now I am proud to serve in South Queens and be a part of law making for our state. My greatest claim to fame, however, is that I am a two-time winner of the RCS Hyperbole. My mom still brags about it to this day! I credit RCS with giving me an edge in everything that I do. I never expected to run for office. Creativity and democracy were always fostered in middle school and we were taught to think critically and to speak confidently. I look back to my humanities class in eighth grade when I raised my hand and asked “why aren't there more women in our history book?” This set me on a path to find women’s voices in our history. It inspired and interested me in bringing diverse voices to our leadership. Family and RCS were a big part of why I chose public service. It gives me hope to see a whole new generation of women starting their careers in public service very early. I continually look forward to seeing glass ceilings smashed.

Thank you for your generosity! It is with great appreciation that we thank our donors. Every gift received, regardless of the size, helps to sustain us, and your philanthropy will be felt not only today but for years to come.

Endowed and Designated Gifts Endowed funds are established through major gifts to provide long-term resources for students, faculty, and programming. When a gift is made to the endowment, the principal gift is never spent and is instead invested, enabling the gift to generate income in perpetuity. Donors have created restricted endowment funds at RCS to support some of the following priorities.

NINTH GRADE PARENTS GIFT FUND This fund was established by the Class of 2005 to support new learning opportunities for ninth graders while fostering an appreciation and continued love of learning at RCS. MASTER TEACHING FUND This fund is an initiative created by the Alumni Association Board to recognize faculty and staff at their milestone years of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and beyond for their service to the community. This grant was set up to encourage the pursuit of interests and invite fresh insights back into our school. THE STARR FOUNDATION This designated gift was established in 1998 to help ensure that RCS is more accessible to families with financial needs — especially children who otherwise would not be able to afford an RCS education. THE STEPHEN SANGER MEMORIAL LECTURE FUND This fund was established by the family in honor of Stephen Sanger ’60, who died at the age of 19 serving his country in the Vietnam War. In his honor, his brother Alexander ’61 worked together with his family and RCS in the fall of 2012 to establish a lecture program. Through the generosity of the Sanger family, one of the school’s Foundations of Education Series (FES) lectures bears the Stephen Sanger name each year. The purpose of the FES lectures is to invite outside experts to speak with members of our community about parenting, child development, and lifelong learning.
