Madison Sky Chacon they/them

Curious, Passionate, Caring Madison Sky Chacon is a scientist, artist, and community organizer dedicated to bridging housing justice, science, art, and care work. At the heart of their activism is a deep commitment to care—for people, for community, and for justice in the face of systemic oppression. Growing up in South Texas, Sky developed a profound appreciation for creativity and collective care. After moving to Massachusetts to study Biology, they fell in love with the artistry of research but quickly recognized the systemic barriers that kept marginalized students from thriving in science. This realization pushed Sky to fight for inclusivity, leading diversity efforts at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Broad Institute. Their work in science activism unexpectedly led them to housing justice, as they saw firsthand how biotech companies and research institutions displaced lifelong Bostonians, prioritizing development over community well-being.

At the same time, Sky’s own family faced housing instability, deepening their understanding of how exclusion in housing stem from structural inequalities. They joined a grassroots organization advocating for unhoused individuals, organizing direct actions and creating art workshops in homeless shelters to foster connection through creativity.

Moving to Berlin for a Fulbright Scholarship, Sky researched alternative housing models and lived in a housing project. They believe that collective living, care-based economies, and resistance to privatization are critical to reimagining just and sustainable futures. Eager to learn from South African housing justice movements, Sky hopes to integrate science, activism, and policy to challenge oppressive systems and build communities rooted in care and solidarity.

Ashwyne Dames he/him

Determined, Energetic, Curious

Ashwyne is a multi-dimensional individual who enjoys reading, gardening , photography and skateboarding. Skateboarding has opened his eyes to what social change can look like on a grassroots level and how social programs can make a difference.

He enjoys helping people and believes it is our duty as human beings to help each other whenever we have the opportunity. He is passionate about starting his own social change program that can grow and help his community through imparting skills and knowledge.

Cameron Farrer he/him

Excited, Focused, Community-oriented Cameron Farrar was born and raised in North Carolina. Cameron has always been interested in social equity. In high school, he was involved with his school's Global Health Club, Student Government, Multiracial Student Association Network (MSAN), Blue Ribbon's Youth Leadership Institute, and several other community initiatives. During his undergraduate studies, Cameron became very closely involved in several voting initiatives and community-based civic engagement teach-ins. Before finishing his degree, he was awarded the Spartans of Promise Award, a university-based award presented to 10 students committed to student leadership each year. Cameron is a McNair Research Fellow and doctoral student at Syracuse University today. His primary research interests are the political economy and world systems, social movements, and labor. Outside of class, Cameron engages in digital community education and has worked with various organizations such as Run for Something, United for Democracy, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Union, and National Domestic Workers Alliance.

Jailen Leavell he/him

Creative, Innovative, Changemaker Jailen Leavell was born, raised, and currently lives in Louisville, Kentucky. From the age of 13, he knew he wanted to be a storyteller. In 2017, he won a Student Ohio Valley Chapter Emmy Award for a story highlighting an English conversation club that helped new arrivals in the U.S. transition into their new communities. He went on to attend Tennessee State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Communications with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism. Before beginning his professional career, Jailen interned with The Today Show. He later worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor in Jackson, Mississippi, and Louisville, Kentucky, covering a wide range of impactful stories.

Telling stories that matter has always been a passion for Jailen. He currently works in government as a spokesperson, overseeing marketing, communications, and public relations for his agency.

Beyond journalism, Jailen has worked with several nonprofit and advocacy groups focused on violence prevention and police reform, particularly in the wake of Breonna Taylor’s killing. He also served as a Youth Ambassador for Cities United, a national organization that partners with mayors to reduce homicides in cities across the country.

Jordan Langenhoven she/her

Passionate, Creative, Inquisitive Jordan Sarah is a young South African woman, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environment and Development at Stellenbosch University. Her passion for sustainability has grown through diverse involvement in community gardening, student leadership, and social entrepreneurship. As an aspiring urban planner and landscape architect, Jordan Sarah enjoys spatial thinking. She views placemaking as an important vehicle for public good and eradicating social ills. Additionally, her philosophy about change-making is that everyone has the capacity to help another person in one way or another and that as a society, we have the responsibility to build a better world for future generations. Grateful for the guidance she received from mentors and teachers in her community, Jordan Sarah is committed to paying it forward.

Lwandisile Mhlanga he/him

Funny, Resilient, Empathetic Lwandisile Mhlanga is a dynamic leader committed to fostering inclusion, empowerment, and social change. Raised in Orange Farm, Johannesburg, he developed resilience and a strong sense of community, which shaped his leadership journey. He earned a B.Sc. in Human Life Sciences from Stellenbosch University in 2024, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Transport and Logistics in the same year. Throughout his time at Stellenbosch, Lwandisile has been involved in student leadership--first as House Committee member at Metanoia, then as a Strategic Advisor in Irene, and later, as Vice Chairperson and Chairperson of Huis Russel Botman House, where he championed inclusivity and transformative leadership. His work included organizing critical engagement workshops, gender-based violence training, and community initiatives such as clothing and food drives. Currently Lwandisile is an intern at Stellenbosch University in the Development and Alumni Relations division.

Ephemia Monama she/her

Kindness, Generosity, Happiness

Ephemia is a highly motivated and experienced Coach with a Matric Certificate in Refereeing, First Aid and Facilitation.

With the one year of experience she has developed so far as a Coach, she has developed a strong work ethic and skills in facilitation, leadership, and communication. She likes dancing, reading, singing and watching movies.

Khosikhadi Mmatlala wa Mudau she/her

Empress, Mother, Healer Khosikhadi Mmatlala wa Mudau is a Founder/ Mother of Botswallethe Sisterhood Youth Foundation, storyteller, actress, poet, writer, and model. As an individual driven by humanitarian work, she draws on art as a medium for self-expression and connection to the world. Khosikhadi is a spirited individual, who leads with passion and purpose--the recipe to living a fulfilling life.

Khosikhadi graduated from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in 2021, having studied Drama and Industrial Psychology. In this time, working with people on healing, mental health, and self artistry (creation) became her passion. For her, she believes change starts with "Self," then to the world around "You". Her long journey of self alchemy led her to share that journey and the lessons that came with it to the community around her, whether through the Foundation Botswalle or her storytelling journey through acting, performing arts, writing, or modeling.

Mzimela he/him

Ambitious, Analytical, Visionary Thando Mzimela-Ntuli is a dynamic Information Systems student at the University of Cape Town and a passionate social entrepreneur committed to leveraging technology for social impact. He is the Founder and CEO of uniMark, a digital platform connecting university students to essential services. Thando also serves as the Executive Vice President of Enactus UCT, where he leads social entrepreneurship initiatives that empower communities through innovation. His leadership extends to governance roles, having served on the Dean’s Advisory Council, Humanities Faculty Board, and Undergraduate Academic SubCouncil, advocating for student interests and institutional transformation. Thando is deeply committed to using technology and entrepreneurship to drive sustainable change, particularly in education, business, and economic inclusion. As a Ripples of Hope Fellow, he looks forward to collaborating with fellow changemakers to create a more just and equitable world.

Donay October she/her

Compassionate, Resilient, Faithful Donay October is a compassionate and driven individual who graduated with a degree in Political Studies and Ethics. She has a strong desire to create positive change, guided by faith and a commitment to serving others with a passion for leadership.

Donay aspires to uplift and empower marginalized communities through her foundation called the October Foundation and various outreach programs. She became the first Junior Police Commissioner of the Western Cape working alongside SAPS and different organizations to ensure safer roads for our young people. Born and raised in South Africa, Donay has a deep understanding of the country's challenges and opportunities.

Through her foundation, she is dedicated to addressing socioeconomic issues particularly in the Cape Flats. With a focus on education, job creation, and community development, Donay is working tirelessly to make a lasting impact, and she is committed to her goals and is inspired by the support of her loved ones and the community.

Daunte Pean he/him

Optimistic, Passionate, True Daunte is a graduating senior at Northeastern University. He studies Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration. In his free time, he dedicates himself to his community, on-campus and off-campus. On-campus, he served as Academic Excellence Chair for his school's NSBE chapter. Off-campus, he is a mentor for the DREAM program, which guides kids in the neighboring area of Roxbury. He's been mentoring for over 5 years.

Jordan Stanley she/her

Intentional, Thoughtful, Dedicated Jordan is a current student at the University of New Hampshire studying Social Work, Sustainability, and Dance.

Her passions have led her to these fields of study through a love for service, environment, and movement. She is an alumna of Project 351, serving as an Ambassador in 2018 for her hometown of Paxton, Massachusetts. She then served on the Alumni Leadership Council throughout high school and served as an intern during her 'Semester in the City' in Boston through the College for Social Innovation. She became greatly involved in the Boston Celtics Playbook Initiative and believes that dialogue and engaging young people in difficult conversation will create a more inclusive and equitable society. She currently serves as a coach for the Portland, ME branch of the Playbook Initiative, implementing the program with the Maine Celtics.

Ryan Vaughan he/him

Collaborative, Creative, Innovative Ryan Vaughan, a native of Lewisburg, West Virginia, is honored to be selected as a Ripples of Hope Fellow in the latest cohort. A dedicated student and passionate community advocate, Ryan is quickly emerging as a rising leader in social impact. During his time at Emory & Henry University in Southwest Virginia, Ryan served his local community as both a Bonner and Civic Leader Scholar, leveraging his skills in digital storytelling to amplify voices and narratives often overlooked. As a proud citizen of Appalachia, Ryan deeply understands the complexities of loving a place that doesn't always reciprocate that love. He is committed to collaborating with others to pull together resources and services that can create lasting, positive change for his larger community–wherever that may be.

Fletcher York he/him

Compassionate, Diligent, Thoughtful Fletcher York was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, also known as the "City That Saved Itself" due to residents’ commitment to helping each other out after severe floods. That ethos inspired Fletcher into a life of giving back to the programs and causes that supported him. In high school, he was president of his school's Interact Club and facilitated hygiene item and jean drives for other low-income students in his district. While a Bonner Scholar at Earlham College, he volunteered with Girls Inc. of Wayne County supporting the empowerment and education of girls in a rural area, as well as running their Summer Food Service Program site, a program he benefited from growing up. In his final two years as an undergraduate, he supported the Bonner Scholars program directly as an intern before completing a Quaker Voluntary Service year working with unhoused youth. Whilst completing his Master of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, he worked as a Program Manager for the University Community Service Center supporting students’ education and community engagement journeys. Fletcher firmly believes that community engagement and education are the cornerstones of bridging the divides we face.

The Roots of Music and 9th Ward resonated the most with me. Engaging with organizations like The Roots of Music is a great way to learn what grassroots organizations are doing to uplift their communities and improve the lives of the people they serve.

It would have been great to engage more with the children and young people at The Roots of Music, to hear their stories and how the program has impacted them. The parade was great, but engaging more in-depth would have been even more powerful.

The visit to the 9th Ward gave the group an opportunity to get a first-hand account of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and its impact on everyday people.

The leader of the African American museum was amazing. Mitch was fantastic and starting with roots of music was perfect.

Resonated most: 9th Ward including Burnell’s Market and The Roots of Music New Orleans African American Museum and Asche Cultural Arts Center. Both were a beautiful display of culture, community, connection. Preservation Hall's mission and focus on workforce development Roots of Music is doing amazing, targeted and useful work. Seeing the lower 9th reinforces the need.

All of the visits gave us perspective and insight. Even though we may have had some difficulty with the situations encountered.

I really wouldn’t change a thing but if on next journey you have other options I indicated “maybe” as those I would first swap out But honestly loved the whole flow!

The Roots of Music and seeing the 9th ward to include Burnell's Market most resonated with me. I also thought Dr. Hamilton of the African American Museum was stellar; the tour guide was not as good (it was her first tour so this is not a criticism--just an observation).

The Roots of Music was a trip highlight. Learning more about what they are doing and how they do their work is inspiring and SO NOLA. It would be very interesting to return to the 9th ward to understand what progress is being made via other organizations--in addition to Burnell's and Robert's work.

TFA in NOLA might be interesting to learn more from their work in public schools.

Roots of Music because of the life-changing impact the organization is having on young people. I'd recommend a visit to NOCCA

I like walking tours but I think the 9th ward could be a curated in less time more succinctly with a bus tour positioned as lessons we learned being careful not to dip into disaster tourism. Perhaps include a stop in a joy space like the Ellis Marsalis Center in the upper 9th Ward to hear from community leaders about current strategies and projects moving forward.

There are many opportunities to see success in rebuilding New Orleans in outside of the 9th Ward Even with gentrification occurring seemingly in most transitioning areas. Some see dark. I see light. I think it is very important to highlight citizen led strategies like some of those that Mitch mentioned and others.

We didn't have “religious leaders” as offered in program but it was not missed though spirit was present in all we did. As it should be.

Gia Hamilton was a star. Hopefully the grounds and out buildings with activity will be available in the future. In years past I've hosted conference receptions there. A dinner on the grounds after a speak and tour with Gia. Personally don't like scripted tours so she was perfect.

Asali D Ecclesiates or Carol Bell should curate Ashe for us. The lighting was odd. If done similarly maybe use the stage with lighting. I don't know that they had dimmers so lights on would be best since candles aren’t an option.

We had good to ok traditional New Orleans food but I think maybe Dooky Chase or a knock out restaurant or Chef would best represent foodways of people of color in New Orleans especially for first time visitors.

I would offer when opened a visit to the John Scott museum.

It would be informative to open with a Session with Mitch to give context. He was spectacular. Kudos for having him spend time with us.

Build in schedule a party night after dinner.

The Roots of music was perfect in many ways and should be included for follow-up.

There are really many organizations that have high community impact that aren't included in New Orleans FAM tours. Ashe and Cafe Reconcile are stables for Philanthropy visits With Ripples I would suggest going deeper and off the familiar road.

The Art Day was exceptional. Period. I enjoyed it all and learned a lot and I bathe in the arts.

The resilience of the community- the pride they take in rebuilding. The power of young people - Great music. The energy of the group. The great leadership team.

The opening night was great, more specifically, the conversation with Bryan Stevenson. It was powerful, inspiring, and hopeful. I didn’t find the conversation with Jeffrey Goldberg very interesting, as it didn’t reveal anything new beyond what is already in the media. Politics is so divisive, and having it as an opener for a book festival was a bit off-putting for me, perhaps because I am not a U.S. citizen. The book festival was a great opportunity for Partnership building and it was great for the Lekgotla to be part of this, an even bigger treat for book lovers.

Well organized - variety in topics - authors Great speakers So proud of the wonderful work that Cheryl did with this monumental event So informative and interesting to participate as a listener which allowed me to take in so much knowledge and information.

The speakers were simply magnificent and being VIP guests made it better lol. Thanks Mitch and Cheryl for everything!

The book festival was excellent. I'm sure they will figure out a strategy to shorten lines. I thought it was well executed. As a Ripple board Member noted, Thursday, and Friday audiences were not diverse but I’ll add the programming and bookstore offerings were absolutely diverse. I did not expect fest attendees on Tulane’s campus to be diverse. Tulane put out the red carpet for the festival and the staff and volunteers were very welcoming. Perceptions and divides persist. You can just see them more clearly in the South. I love that sessions a were recorded to expand the audience. The editors of the video should be intentional about the focus on the presentations and not the audience. I love book festivals of all kinds especially being in proximity with people to engage with that have different perspectives. Maybe consider facilitated discussions room or small table on conference tracks or themes. Not talking to speakers/authors but each other. Record some to share with authors. Allow for formal and informal opportunity to interact.

Loved it all It was a privilege to attend and I am so grateful to The Landreius for spending time with us. I am especially grateful to Cheryl Landrieu for reserving amazing seats for the opening session and to Doris Kearns Goodwin for speaking with us at dinner. The entire experience was transformative!

People were exhausted at the Saba dinner. It was a yummy meal and great place but as you know timing was off. We packed a lot into that day.

Finding some down time in the schedule So much thought was put into accommodating your guest. I appreciate all of you and thank you for an experience that empowered so much through interactions.

Would have loved to sample more authentic Louisiana cuisine All went well outside of Saba. Glad they refunded cost back to the program Consider balance excellence in offerings for meals. Explore more. Allow some reflective time. Share cash app/venmo/ zelle paypal for optional donations to go directly to organizations and individuals that spend time with us.

The Arts day Mitch and Gia Keynote Speakers at the Book Festival Might mix up cuisines a little – Reconcile and Ashe were similar.But all fantastic spots

Food at Saba was beyond excellent--unfortunately, the restaurant was in the weeds so service was not optimal.

With full days--earlier dinners would be great.

I'm approaching 75, so factor that in to my response....a bit more free time to explore on one's own or to rest. Going from 8 am to 10 pm leaves little time to digest learning and thinking.

Yes, but I would have enjoyed a few more intimate, smaller conversations on how we believe and serve humanity as well as ourselves in terms of self care as well as service to community.

Never enough Love spending time with old and wise friends with the addition of new ones!

Yes Yes--we had jam-packed days but there was time for conversation and connection.

I always appreciate more time getting to know people. There were several on the trip I didn't get to visit with but I really enjoyed those I was able to spend time with. Mixing up seating at dinners and meals is very important to accomplish this.

We need to go visit the National Memorial for Peace and Justice Just continue to be present highlighting community connections, impact, and love.

State side for now - Atlanta, Boston and North Carolina.

I need more time for this one.

Lots of places to visit That are culturally diverse and interesting and perhaps surprising Think you should mix it up if you can Love the way you deep dive Tulsa--to go see the Gathering Place, a highly successful urban park that has been built to serve the community. I think there are other efforts underway in Tulsa that are interesting.

Again, more time to reflect, perhaps journal, break into small groups

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) Between Ripples of Hope and Radio Farm Effective Date: May 15, 2025 This Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") is entered into by and between: Ripples of Hope, a nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of Massachusetts, with its principal office located at 591 Bridge Street, Dedham, MA 02026(“Fiscal Sponsor”); and Radio Farm, a nonprofit initiative/project organized under the laws of Massachusetts, with its principal office located at 844 State Road, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568(“Sponsored Organization”).

1. Purpose The purpose of this MOU is to establish a fiscal sponsorship arrangement in which the Fiscal Sponsor agrees to provide fiscal and administrative oversight for the Sponsored Organization, in accordance with the terms outlined below.

2. Term This MOU shall become effective on the date listed above and will remain in effect until terminated by either party in accordance with Section 7.

3. Responsibilities of the Fiscal Sponsor The Fiscal Sponsor agrees to: Maintain responsibility for receiving and disbursing funds intended for the Sponsored Organization; Ensure that all funds are used in accordance with applicable laws, grant agreements, and the charitable purposes of both parties; Provide banking services and maintain a separate account or sub-account for the Sponsored Organization; Handle all necessary bookkeeping and financial reporting; Process payroll and related human resources services for any Sponsored Organization staff, if applicable; Include the Sponsored Organization in its insurance policies, if relevant, and assist with other administrative tasks as agreed upon in writing.

4. Responsibilities of the Sponsored Organization The Sponsored Organization agrees to: Operate as a charitable project in furtherance of the Fiscal Sponsor’s tax-exempt mission; Submit a project budget for approval and comply with agreed-upon budget guidelines; Provide the Fiscal Sponsor with all documentation needed to comply with reporting requirements; Pay all costs associated with the fiscal sponsorship, including: Banking and transaction fees Bookkeeping and accounting costs Payroll processing and staff management fees Any additional administrative costs incurred by the Fiscal Sponsor on behalf of the Sponsored Organization Cooperate fully with the Fiscal Sponsor to ensure legal and financial compliance.

5. Fees The Sponsored Organization shall reimburse the Fiscal Sponsor for all actual costs incurred on its behalf. In addition, a [percentage or flat fee] administrative fee may be assessed monthly/quarterly to cover indirect costs, subject to mutual agreement.

All fees and cost-sharing arrangements shall be documented in an annual budget or service agreement appended to this MOU. 6. Use of Funds All funds raised by or on behalf of the Sponsored Organization shall be the property of the Fiscal Sponsor and shall be used exclusively for the purposes of the Sponsored Organization as approved by the Fiscal Sponsor.

7. Termination This MOU may be terminated by either party upon 30 days’ written notice. Upon termination, remaining funds will be handled in accordance with applicable law and any donor-imposed restrictions, and a final accounting will be provided.

8. Entire Agreement This MOU constitutes the full understanding between the parties and supersedes all prior discussions or agreements. It may only be amended in writing, signed by both parties.

Board Nominations 05.06.2025 Daylene van Buuren Executive Director, City Year South Africa Daylene has been working and leading initiatives in the non-profit sector for youth and children for over 19 years. Daylene joined City Year South Africa shortly after it was founded in 2005; she served as a service leader in the programme in 2006 and joined the staff in 2007. In 2012, she was appointed as the Youth Development Manager; in this role she managed various portfolios in the organization including recruitment, training, placement and building the alumni network.

In 2014, she was appointed by the board as Executive Director for City Year South Africa, being the youngest female and first alumnus to lead the organisation. Since her appointment, Daylene has been committed to building the National Youth Service movement in South Africa and to using service to build pathways to employment for young people. Daylene’s vision is to create more service-learning opportunities for young people in South Africa that will change their lives and careers for the better. In 2019, Daylene was selected as an Obama Africa Leader, a year-long program of 200 African leaders that seeks to build a growing network of innovative and ethical changemakers who will drive positive change in their communities, the continent, and the world. She was chosen based on her vision and excellence to build quality National Youth Service Models and raising the resources and investment to grow the movement. She currently serves on the presidential task team for youth development and National Youth Service Committee with the National Youth Development Agency. Board members and employees shall use confidential information solely for the purpose of performing services as a board member or employee for Ripples of Hope. This policy is not intended to prevent disclosure where disclosure is required by law.

Board members and employees must exercise good judgment and care at all times to avoid unauthorized or improper disclosures of confidential information. Conversations in public places, such as restaurants, elevators, and airplanes, should be limited to matters that do not pertain to information of a sensitive or confidential nature. In addition, board members and employees should be sensitive to the risk of inadvertent disclosure and should, for example, refrain from leaving confidential information on desks or otherwise in plain view and refrain from the use of speakerphones to discuss confidential information if the conversation could be heard by unauthorized persons.

At the end of a board member’s term in office or upon the termination of an employee’s employment, he or she shall return, at the request of Ripples of Hope, all documents, papers, and other materials, regardless of medium, that may contain or be derived from confidential information in his or her possession.

Board Committees Executive Committee The Executive Committee serves at the pleasure of the Ripples of Hope Board Chair and the full board.

Its chair is the Board Chair. The committee shall consist of the elected officers—for example, the board chair, chair-elect, immediate past chair, secretary-treasurer, and secretary-treasurer-elect—as well as the chair of the Finance/Audit Committee. The Director of the organization shall serve on the committee in a non-voting capacity. The committee chair (the board chair) serves a three-year term, in alignment with

their term as board chair. Committee members serve during their respective tenures in the roles described above.

The Executive Committee is responsible for reporting to the board on all plans, activities, and accomplishments, and for formulating and recommending actions to the full board prior to implementation. Its responsibilities include: ●

A conflict of interest may exist when the interests or potential interests of any director, officer, or staff member, or that person’s close relative, or any individual, group, or organization to which the person associated with Ripples of Hope has allegiance, may be seen as competing with the interests of Ripples of Hope, or may impair such person’s independence or loyalty to Ripples of Hope. A conflict of interest is defined as an interest that might affect, or might reasonably appear to affect, the judgment or conduct of any director or staff member in a manner that is adverse to the interests of Ripples of Hope.

All other gifts should be returned to the donor with the explanation that Ripples of Hope policy does not permit the acceptance of gifts. No personal gift of money should ever be accepted.

Engages in any outside employment or other activity that will materially encroach on such person’s obligations to Ripples of Hope; compete with Ripples of Hope’s activities; involve any use of Ripples of Hope’s equipment, supplies, or facilities; or imply Ripples of Hope’s sponsorship or support of the outside employment or activity

Use of Information Directors and staff shall not use information received from participation in Ripples of Hope affairs, whether expressly denominated as confidential or not, for personal gain or to the detriment of Ripples of Hope.

Disclosure and Recusal Whenever any director has a conflict of interest or a perceived conflict of interest with Ripples of Hope, he or she shall notify the Board Chair of such conflict in writing. Whenever any staff member (paid or volunteer) has a conflict of interest or a perceived conflict of interest with Ripples of Hope, he or she shall notify the Head of School of such conflict in writing.

When any conflict of interest is relevant to a matter that comes under consideration or requires action by the board, or a board committee, the interested person shall call it to the attention of the board chair and shall not be present during board or committee discussion or decision on the matter. However, that person shall provide the board or applicable committee with any and all relevant information on the particular matter.

The minutes of the meeting of the board or its committee shall reflect that the conflict of interest was disclosed, that the interested person was not present during discussion or decision on the matter, and did not vote.

Dissemination A copy of this conflict-of-interest policy shall be furnished to each director, officer, and staff member who is presently serving this organization or who may become associated with it.

Certification The policy and its application shall be reviewed annually for the information and guidance of directors, officers, and staff members, each of whom has a continuing responsibility to scrutinize their transactions and outside business interests and relationships for potential conflicts of interest, and make such disclosures as described in this policy.

As administered by the board chair, each director will be asked to complete a certification of agreement with the policy and disclosure of any known conflicts of interest upon his or her election or re-election to the board and annually thereafter. As administered by the Head of School, each staff member will be asked to complete such a certification upon his or her employment and on an annual basis thereafter.

GIFT ACCEPTANCE POLICY DRAFT - April 2025 Purpose Ripples of Hope solicits and accepts gifts that support and advance its mission to inspire, engage, and equip individuals and communities to create a more just, hopeful, and connected world. This policy provides guidance to staff, board members, and donors regarding the acceptance of gifts to ensure that all contributions align with Ripples of Hope’s values, operational capacity, and legal obligations.

Encouragement of Independent Advice Ripples of Hope encourages all prospective donors to seek independent legal and financial counsel when considering a gift—particularly one with tax or estate planning implications.

General Policy These policies govern the acceptance of gifts made to Ripples of Hope for the benefit of any of its programs, services, initiatives, or operations.

1. Use of Legal Counsel Ripples of Hope may seek legal counsel in matters relating to gift acceptance when appropriate. Review by legal counsel is recommended in, but not limited to, the following situations: ● ● ● ● ●

3. Gifts Generally Accepted Without Review A. Cash Ripples of Hope accepts cash gifts in any form, including checks, money orders, credit cards, and online payments.

B. Marketable Securities Publicly traded securities may be transferred electronically or delivered physically. These will typically be sold promptly upon receipt unless otherwise directed by the Investment Committee. The Executive Committee must review and approve acceptance of any restricted securities.

C. Bequests and Beneficiary Designations Ripples of Hope welcomes bequests and beneficiary designations under wills, trusts, life insurance policies, commercial annuities, and retirement plans.

RECORD RETENTION AND DOCUMENT DESTRUCTION POLICY Draft – April 2025 Purpose In accordance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which makes it a crime to alter, cover up, falsify, or destroy any document with the intent of impeding or obstructing any official proceeding, this policy provides for the systematic review, retention, and destruction of documents received or created by Ripples of Hope in connection with the transaction of school business. Electronic Documents and Records

Electronic documents will be retained as if they were paper documents. Therefore, any electronic files, including records of donations made online, that fall into one of the document types on the above schedule will be maintained for the appropriate amount of time.

Emergency Planning Ripples of Hope’s records will be stored in a safe, secure, and accessible manner. Documents and financial files that are essential to keeping Ripples of Hope operating in an emergency will be duplicated or backed up at least every week and maintained off-site.

Document Destruction Ripples of Hope’s Head of School is responsible for the ongoing process of identifying its records, which have met the required retention period, and overseeing their destruction.

Destruction of financial and personnel-related documents will be accomplished by shredding.

Document destruction will be suspended immediately, upon any indication of an official investigation or when a lawsuit is filed or appears imminent. Destruction will be reinstated upon conclusion of the investigation.

Compliance Failure on the part of employees to follow this policy can result in possible civil and criminal sanctions against Ripples of Hope and its employees and possible disciplinary action against responsible individuals. The Head of School and finance committee chair will periodically review these procedures with legal counsel or the school’s certified public accountant to ensure that they are in compliance with new or revised regulations.

RISK MANAGEMENT POLICY DRAFT - 04/23/2025 Ripples of Hope is committed to protecting its human, financial, tangible, and goodwill assets and resources through the practice of effective risk management. Ripples of Hope’s board and management are dedicated to safeguarding the safety and dignity of its participants, paid and volunteer staff, and anyone who has contact with the organization. To this end, the board will ensure that the organization has a risk management plan for the organization that is reviewed and updated on an annual basis.

Asset Protection The chief executive shall adequately protect and maintain from unnecessary risk Ripples of Hope’s assets. Accordingly, the chief executive shall ● Insure against theft and casualty losses of tangible personal property to at least 80 percent replacement value and against liability losses to board members, staff, or the organization itself at no less than minimally acceptable prudent levels. ● Have sufficient employee dishonesty insurance and directors’ and officers’ liability insurance for personnel with access to material amounts of funds. ● Ensure office and equipment is not subjected to improper wear and tear or insufficient maintenance. ● Protect the organization, its board, and staff from exposure leading to claims of liability. ● Protect intellectual property, information, and files from loss or significant damage. ● Seek bids or demonstrate other prudent methods for any purchases over $1,000 and protect against conflicts of interest. ● Receive, process, or disburse funds under financial controls that meet the board-appointed auditor’s (or other grant) standards. ● Invest or hold operating capital in secure instruments, such as insured checking accounts and bonds of greater than XX rating, interest-bearing accounts (except when necessary to facilitate ease in operational transactions or where restricted by the funder). ● Not endanger the organization’s public image or credibility, particularly in ways that would hinder its accomplishment of mission, except when necessary to accomplish its mission.

WHISTLEBLOWER AND ANTI-RETALIATION POLICY DRAFT – 04/23/2025 The Code of Ethics adopted by Ripples of Hope requires all staff, board members, participants, and volunteers to observe high standards of business and personal ethics in the conduct of their duties and responsibilities. As employees and representatives of Ripples of Hope, we must practice honesty and integrity in fulfilling our responsibilities and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Set forth below is Ripples of Hope’s policy with respect to reporting good-faith concerns about the legality or propriety of Ripples of Hope actions or plans.

Reporting of Concerns or Complaints It is the responsibility of all staff, board members, and volunteers to comply with Ripples of Hope’s Code of Ethics and applicable law and to report violations or suspected violations in accordance with this Whistleblower Policy.

Confidentiality Ripples of Hope will treat all communications under this policy in a confidential manner, except to the extent necessary 1) to conduct a complete and fair investigation, or 2) for review of Ripples of Hope operations by Ripples of Hope’s board, its finance committee, Ripples of Hope’s independent public accountants, and Ripples of Hope’s legal counsel.

Retaliation Ripples of Hope will not permit any negative or adverse actions to be taken against any employee or individual for making a good-faith report of a possible violation of its Code of Ethics or applicable law, even if the report is mistaken, or against any employee or individual who assists in the investigation of a reported violation. Retaliation in any form will not be tolerated. Any act of alleged retaliation should be reported immediately and will be promptly investigated. An employee who retaliates against someone who has reported a violation in good faith is subject to discipline up to and including termination of employment. This Whistleblower Policy is intended to encourage and enable employees and others to raise serious concerns within Ripples of Hope prior to seeking resolution outside the organization.

How to Report Concerns or Complaints Employees and others may communicate suspected violations of its Code of Ethics, applicable law, or other wrongdoing or alleged retaliation by contacting Ripples of Hope’s Executive Director or Board Chair. If you wish to remain anonymous, it is not necessary that you give your name or position in any notification.

Whether or not you identify yourself, for a proper investigation to be conducted, please provide Ripples of Hope with as much information as you can, sufficient to do a proper investigation, including where and when the incident occurred, names and titles of the individuals involved, and as much other detail as you can provide.

Illustrative Types of Concerns The following is a non-exhaustive list of the kinds of improprieties that should be reported: • Supplying false or misleading information on Ripples of Hope’s financial or other public documents, including its Form 990 • Providing false information to or withholding material information from Ripples of Hope’s board or auditors • Destroying, altering, mutilating, concealing, covering up, falsifying, or making a false entry in any records that may be connected to an official proceeding, in violation of federal or state law or regulations • Altering, destroying, or concealing a document, or attempting to do so, with the intent to impair the document’s availability for use in an official proceeding or otherwise obstructing, influencing, or impeding any official proceeding, in violation of federal or state law or regulations • Embezzling, self-dealing, private inurement (i.e., Ripples of Hope earnings used for the benefit of a director or staff member) and private benefit (i.e., Ripples of Hope assets being used by anyone in the organization for personal gain or benefit) • Paying for services or goods that are not rendered or delivered • Using remarks or actions of a sexual nature that are not welcome and are likely to be viewed as personally offensive, including sexual flirtations; unwelcome physical or verbal advances; sexual propositions; verbal abuse of a sexual nature; the display of sexually suggestive objects, cartoons, or pictures; and physical contact of a sexual or particularly personal nature.
