Here’s just some of the talent from Northumbria University hoping to follow in Scott’s illustrious footsteps when they exhibit at this year’s GFW event.

Contrasting sharp structural pieces with loose methodologica drapes w th a focus on nventive fabrication, Charlotte says: “My collection is inspiredby the work of architect Dominique Perrault, which studied at an exhibition at the Pompidou, Paris. He is famous for expl c t and extens ve text le-based architectural and urban designsthroughthe application of highly innovative steel meshes.”
In future, Charlotte hopesto travel to the likes of Paris, Belgium and New York to gain experience, and would like to work in London on her own label. She adds: “My design philosophy is to create desirable garmentsfor womenthrough rede ningan innovative link to fashion from the unfamiliar.” www.accentmagazine.co.uk

Inspired by Japanesehistory and society , 22-year- old Emilia Boulton, from Henley- on-Thames, has created an androgynous, conceptual collection for GFW
“My collection is basedon myselfquestioningJapanesesocietyand how much they remembertheir country’s unique cultural values,” she says.
Emilia’s collection focuses on natural materials such as wool, cashmere,silk yarn and cotton. “ W hen wear clothes, they have to feel right as well as look goodon the body,” says Emilia. “I want peopleto feel goodbut, most importantly feel comfortable when they wear my designs. Clothes should enhance people’spersonalitiesand behaviourrather than dictate them.”
A fan of Japanesedesignerssuch as Issey Miyake Yohji Yamamoto and Rei K awakubo, Emilia hopes to visit Japan after graduatingand would love to be an assistantpattern cutter with Comme des Garcons.

Twenty-two-year- old Rio JadeMaddison, rom S under and, descr bes her col ect on for G F W as “ futuristic showgirl meets studded sex kitten with tightly tted black dresses and cat suits with domed skirts”. Mixing neoprene and jersey with leather and spiky studs, Rio’s designsare basedon 1920s’ and 40s’ showgirlsand inspired by the kaleidoscopicchoreography of 1920s’ lm director Busby Berkeley
Her muse for the collection was songstressRoisin Murphy who is well known for wearingcreative out ts on stage.Roisin has also beenthe musefor Gareth Pugh – one of the names Rio counts amongher idols in the industry


Rio explains: “My ambition is to be o ered work within a creative design team, creating clothes with cutting- edge designwhich makes womenlook and feel fabulous.”
