HELLO

Travel has been a large influence on my life. When visiting anywhere, the small details always stand out to me whether that be the carving in the stone at The Vatican or the detailing in the floor of the bathroom at my local mall. Sure, the big picture is the thing that most people see, but the small things are the most important part of a project, working together to make the space come harmonious. As someone who prides themselves on thinking of the small things, my passion is working to blend all of the details together to finalize a space. With a solid foundation in interior design principles, a keen eye for aesthetics, and a proven track record of successfully transforming spaces into functional, beautiful environments, I am confident in my ability to contribute to each part of the design process as well create a beatiful space.

My academic background includes a BFA in Interior Design from the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut, where I honed my spatial planning, color theory skills and gained experience in using basic design principles. As well as taking classes such as Construction Documents, Furniture Design, Universal Design, and Advanced Rendering, my hands-on experience in the field has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the design process, from concept development to project execution. I have successfully collaborated with clients to translate their visions into reality, ensuring that each project aligns with their unique tastes, requirements, and budget constraints.

I yearn to give every client a ‘wow’ moment in each project, whether it is a pop of color in their room they didn’t expect or a texture that makes them never want to leave their sofa. I pride myself in thinking of every detail for each project and making a continuous effort to bring every piece of a design back to the original theme of the space.

One of my key strengths is my proficiency in utilizing design softwares such as Revit, AutoCAD, Enscpe, Lumion, and Adobe Creative Suite. Using these programs with competence allows me to create detailed and visually compelling design presentations, facilitating effective communication with clients and stakeholders. Additionally, my ability to stay current on industry trends and incorporate innovative ideas into my designs sets me apart as a dynamic and forward-thinking interior designer.

Enclosed is my resume, which details my education, skills, and professional experience. I want to discuss how my background and passion for interior design can contribute to the ongoing success of any project.

I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss how my skills align with your firm’s goals. Please feel free to contact me to schedule an interview.

Thank you for your consideration,

Riley Martin

Client Description

The client is a couple in their 60’s, downsizing and moving into a home they can age in place in. The husband has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis; a degenerative disease that will eventually result in him being wheelchairbound. The wife works from home and will require a space to work. Both the husband and wife live an active lifestyle and plan to continue to remain active while living in this home. The clients have two children with children of their own that will also be visiting the home. The grandchildren are 4, 8, 12, and 14.

Design Statement

The Rogers residence is a rural modern home in Maine designed to accommodate the owners to age in place. This home will be considerably open and accessible to fit them, their children, and grandchildren comfortably. The priority of the home is to incorporate the design principles of Universal Design as well as ADA regulations. To keep the owners active, there is an outdoor space with a roll-in pool and hot tub and a gardening section with accessible raised planters.

The whole home has slip resistant flooring. It also has a ‘step-free’ entrance through the garage, which is also equipped with a door opener by remote. Although there is a step down in the living space, it can be removed and switched with a ramp for easy wheelchair access. There is a gas fireplace in the dining room that is remote controlled for easy use, there is also a remote for the thermostat. There is a custom wheelchair accessible dining table and can expand to fit 14 guests. The kitchen has a pot filler to illuminate the carrying of heavy pots.

This custom made storage and cabinet system has been made to fit into a home with a person with limited reach, or someone who is wheelchair bound. These measurements are incorporated to make sure that the owner will be able to use almost every space in the cabinet. With soft close doors as well as accessible open storage this help us to complete our dining room. We also managed to fit in wine storage, which was a big ticket item for the client.

Definition of ADA Compliance

The American Disabilities Act is a civil liberty law that protects individuals with disabilities against discrimination in public places. This ADA standard gives designers dimensions to make sure a space is accessible for people with disabilities.

Definition of Universal Design

Universal design is the design process that meets the needs of all people no matter what size, age, or ability/disability one may have. This type of design incorporates important features that may be needed for an environment in the future.

02 CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS Martin Media Room Two-Point

Design Statement

The Martin Media Room seeks to seamlessly blend the warmth and authenticity of traditional rustic elements with the clean lines and contemporary aesthetics of modern design. This space is a harmonious fusion of nature-inspired textures, reclaimed materials, and sleek, minimalist furnishings. Earthy tones, such as warm browns, deep blues, and soft grays, dominate the color palette, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Large windows allow an abundance of natural light to illuminate the room, highlighting the raw beauty of exposed wooden beams. The juxtaposition of these rustic elements against a backdrop of neutral walls and a polished concrete fireplace creates a sense of balance and sophistication.

Lighting Plan Notes

Lighting:

Furniture is carefully selected to reflect both comfort and style. Plush, oversized sofas with a colorful fabric upholstery offer a comfortable seating arrangement, while a harder square coffee table, made of reclaimed wood introduces a touch of modernity. Adding in a rug with texture creates a cozy space to relax and enjoy the indoors while having an unobstructed view of the outdoors. Reflected Ceiling Plan and Lighting Plan

All lights are to be installed at their respective designated locations. Framing of all soffits and coffers are to be adjusted accordingly to accommodate said locations. Conflicts of lighting locations with that of overhead ceiling joists may require joists to be installed to accommodate lighting locations or cross box framing may have to be provided based upon the inability of joist location to be modified. In the event of an unmovable framing member, contractor is to contact RCM Designs to resolve and/or re-specify a new location for the light or lights in question. In many instances, furniture placement has been shown as a guide to the Electrician so he/she may understand the rationale of lighting locations. Specialty Picture lights as shown by their track length on the ceiling for graphic clarity only, but are actually located center on the adjacent wall. All exterior Sconce lighting heights unless otherwise noted must be verified in field in accordance to house trims and siding profile. Electrician to leave adequate wiring to accommodate 6’-6” above finished floor. Provide for all exterior sconces 1¼” thick wood block set into siding to receive light fixtures. Wood block size must be minimum ¼” large in width and height of fixture wall canopy mount. All blocks are to be weather flashed. All Interior Sconce lighting heights, unless otherwise noted, must be verified in field in accordance to their size, design and designated areas. Electrician to leave adequate wiring to accommodate 6’-6” installation above finished floor.

Lighting Switches:

All switches are to be “Lutron” – Homeworks” unless otherwise specified or determined not to be part of the “Homeworks” system, such as Closets, etc. Consult owner and DAVCO Inc. All “Homeworks” switches are to be dimmable and programmable for preset scenes as determined by the owners, and RCM Designs.

Electrical Receptacles, Telephone Cable & Computer Receptacles:

Style, manufacturer, and color to be determined by Owner, Interior Designer, & Lighting Designer to complement “Lutron”Homeworks” switches. Locations have been determined by a combination of code requirements and owner needs. In the event of the inability of providing installation at said locations, Contractor’s Electrician is to contact RCM Designs for resolution. All receptacles are to be installed at standard heights above finished floor, unless otherwise specified. If they conflict with specified molding locations, contact RCM Designs for resolution. In many instances furniture placement has been shown as a guide to the Electrician so he/she may understand the rationale of receptacle locations.

Client Description

Design Statement

Originally started by Walter Landor in 1941, Landor & Fitch is the world’s largest Brand Management and Brand Consulting Firm. They brand themselves as being a company that will work with each individual, using both creativity and business smarts. Landor also states that they want to ‘make a positive difference’ in the world. Compared to other brand management companies, Landor & Fitch is always right on the cusp of technology. They have had clients like Adias, Kelloggs, and BBC, ranging from television, airplanes and food. They will need individual work areas as well as some collaborative spaces in their office. They will need the newest modeling and animation technology as well as monitors with great displays.

Landor & Fitch and Riley Martin Designs plan to make their latest office addition in New Orleans, Louisiana a chic, fashionable and state-ofthe-art work environment for employees as well as visitors. By using Contemporary architectural details mixed with French Colonial inspired decor and furnishings, the office will blend seamlessly into the landscape of the french quarter. Keeping this history of the area will insure the success of the new office in a new location.

Schematic Design Phases

Inspiration

Using the french colonial style as inspiration, I chose to take the shapes I had found in furniture pieces and architecture to incorporate into my design. Items with delicate framing, rounded edges and soft lines stood out to me. Choosing a warmer tone for the wood in the space helps to bring in the warmth of the environment as well as making the office more welcoming.

One thing that I chose to focus on when designing this Office was community. I wanted to create a space where people could work anywhere, their desk, the lobby, the cafe, and still feel connected to their team and the work environment. I accomplished this by having multiple different places to sit and work as well as different seating options like couches, comfy chairs, tall tables with bar stools, dining chairs and office chairs. This gives each individual working in the space the option to choose where they feel they will be the most productive or the most comfortable. Another thing I made sure to include in my office is nature. Not only did I choose wallpapers with motifs of plants, above the smaller downstairs conference room in the team space, there is a green space with local to New Orleans plants. This brings a much needed touch of life into the office. The plants in the greenspace are watered through a water collection system located on the roof of the building to maximize water usage.

04 Kinetic Design Modern Motion

Design Brief

Kinetic design is a way to create multifunctionality within a home and add additional value to a space or object by easily repositioning specific parts of the structure. Rooms can be maneuvered to create maximum performance to match the needs of the residents. The objective is to take a 2,200 square foot two-story home and turn it into a space that is easily transformable aesthetically and functionally.

Design Concept

Modern motion allows flexibility within the home through kinetic design. We implement this concept throughout the entire home. Dividing the kitchen and dining room we included pivotal/sliding doors enabling a complete transformation from a closed to an open concept. We also implemented this same idea in the space that divides the office and living room. However, we used bookshelves with the same pivotal/sliding door engineering. In the children’s bedrooms, we used a track that enables the beds to move up and down. This changes the kids room from a sleeping space into an area for play/work. Finally in the primary and living room we have a tv that disappears either into the ceiling or floor to create maximum space.
