EDUCATION Planned Parenthood Murders Children — None of Their Other ‘Services’ Matter Matt Walsh October 20, 2015

Abortion devotees are very good at changing the subject. The problem is that we on the pro-life side almost always let them get away with it. I watched this play out yet again yesterday when news came down that Texas defunded Planned Parenthood in the state.

Naturally, Planned Parenthood fans went berserk, flailing their arms and crying about all of the “services” Planned Parenthood provides other than abortion. Even some self-professed pro-lifers often argue that Planned Parenthood ought to be funded based on the “other stuff” it does. Abortion is just three percent of their business, they claim. Planned Parenthood gives out birth control and birth control prevents abortion, they say. And so on.

This is where pro-lifers drop the ball. We respond to these arguments by trying to explain how abortion is actually more than three percent of their business, and how Planned Parenthood actually doesn’t offer mammograms, and how birth control actually doesn’t prevent abortion, but what we should be saying is this: it doesn’t matter. Planned Parenthood should be defunded and ultimately destroyed because it murders human beings. Period.

That’s all. That’s it. That’s the whole argument.

What percentage of their business is murder? Doesn’t matter. What else do they do besides murder? Doesn’t matter. Have many women gone there for cancer screenings and STD tests and other important things? Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter.

Look, if ANY OTHER COMPANY IN THE WORLD purposefully, as a policy, murdered people — even just a few people a year — everyone would agree that the company should be dismantled and burned to the ground. There would be no conversation at all about the “other stuff.” Just like nobody talks about the “other stuff” Hitler did.

Planned Parenthood kills humans. I don’t care if they also do cancer screenings. I don’t care if they give out birth control. I don’t care about the percentages or the figures or the pie charts.

Do they murder people? Yes. End of story. They should be defunded and all of their employees should be in jail. Nothing else they do matters. Nothing. EDUCATION Planned Parenthood: Setting the Record Straight From the Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities 9/28/15

In 2015, a series of undercover videos showed officials of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) discussing how they perform abortions and traffic in the tissues and organs of abortion victims. The officials’ matter-of-fact comments on destroying unborn human life, and on altering abortion methods to obtain more “intact” organs, have led to a public debate on Planned Parenthood’s role as a “women’s health” organization receiving large government subsidies. Here are key facts.

1. PPFA is the largest abortion provider in the U.S. In 2013, the last year reported, Planned Parenthood affiliates performed 327,653 abortions, both surgical and “medical” (using the abortion drug RU-486). PPFA’s share of the abortion “market” has expanded steadily over the years: It performed one in five of all abortions in the United States in 2005, but now performs about one in three.

2. Every Planned Parenthood affiliate must perform abortions.

In 2010, PPFA announced that by 2013 every affiliate must have one or more clinics that perform abortions on-site. A few affiliates left PPFA rather than comply with the new abortion mandate.

3. Planned Parenthood provides 16 times more abortions than birth-oriented services.

While PPFA says abortions make up 3% of its services, this is misleading. PPFA says it served 2.7 million patients (women and men) and performed 327,653 abortions, indicating that 12% of everyone entering a Planned Parenthood clinic receives an abortion. And PPFA provided only 18,684 “prenatal services” and 1,880 referrals for adoptions at other agencies. So 94% of its services for pregnant women are abortions, outnumbering other options 16 to 1.

4. Planned Parenthood promotes risky RU-486 abortions that have killed young women.

PPFA strongly supports the dangerous abortion drug RU-486, promoted its expedited approval by the FDA, and volunteered to conduct early U.S. trials. In early trials, young Californians Holly Patterson and Vivian Tran died from infections after RU-486 abortions at Planned Parenthood clinics. In April 2011, the FDA reported 2,207 adverse events up to that time, including 14 deaths, 339 cases of blood loss requiring transfusions, and (in addition to deaths) 612 hospitalizations. Actual figures are likely higher, as the FDA doesn't mandate reporting by providers. PPFA clinics flout FDA protocols by, among other things, using RU-486 “off-label” for abortions up to 63 days after a woman’s last menstrual period (two weeks later than the FDA found safe). When Ohio passed a law requiring clinics to follow FDA guidelines, Planned Parenthood sued to tie up the law in court; public data later showed 42 botched RU-486 abortions in Ohio, including 35 women who had to return for a surgical abortion.

5. Planned Parenthood fights even modest laws to reduce or regulate abortions.

PPFA has opposed, and filed suit against, reasonable and widely supported measures on abortion, even those protecting women’s health and informed decision making. These include: * laws to ensure a woman’s informed consent, allow her to view an ultrasound before the abortion, or provide a 24-hour waiting period for her to consider her decision * parental notification or consent before a minor daughter’s abortion * bans on the gruesome partial-birth abortion procedure * health and safety regulations for abortion facilities * requiring abortion practitioners to have admitting privileges at a local hospital in case of complications * safety standards for the abortion drug RU-486.

EDUCATION 6. Planned Parenthood doesn’t believe in a “right to choose” against abortion.

“Freedom of choice” does not apply to those who disagree with PPFA. It opposes laws recognizing conscience rights for doctors, nurses and health facilities with moral or religious objections to abortion, dismissively referring to conscience clauses as “refusal clauses.” Planned Parenthood strongly supports U.S. funding of the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA), and closely partners with that agency internationally despite its involvement in the Chinese population program using coerced abortion and involuntary sterilization. Such coercion is recognized internationally as a crime against women. PPFA also opposes conscience rights for pharmacists who object to providing “emergency contraception” drugs due to their abortifacient potential, and thinks even religious orders like the Little Sisters of the Poor should be forced to include these in their health plans.

7. Planned Parenthood is not “pro-choice” for women.

In light of the failure of contraceptive programs to reduce unintended pregnancies or abortions, Planned Parenthood has increasingly promoted “LARCs” (long-acting reversible contraceptives) – implantables, injectables, and intrauterine devices – that can sterilize women for months or years at a time. Most women have rejected these methods in the past due to their inflexibility and side effects. But supporters favor them because they are “independent from… user motivation and adherence” – that is, they disregard a woman’s own changing reproductive goals, and cannot be discontinued without medical assistance. PPFA has even abandoned “pro-choice” as a slogan -- insisting instead that contraception and abortion are basic “health care” that all women need access to (whether women ask for that or not).

8. Planned Parenthood’s role in serving women’s health is compromised at best, and is better taken over by others.

Planned Parenthood’s supporters cite its “cervical and breast cancer screenings” -- but its heavily promoted contraceptive services, over a third of all PPFA’s activity, is associated with an increased risk of breast and cervical cancer. Planned Parenthood’s “screening” for breast cancer is a preliminary screen that a woman can do for herself – it offers no mammograms or biopsies. PPFA emphasizes its testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases – but it heavily promotes contraceptive methods that may increase women’s risk of contracting STDs, including AIDS. Women’s comprehensive health needs are much better served by community health centers and other federally qualified health centers, which serve 22 million patients in both urban and rural areas and outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics 13 to 1 (9,170 to 700).

9. “Non-Profit” Planned Parenthood reaps enormous revenues, including tax revenues.

PPFA is legally a non-profit organization but takes in enormous revenues: $1.3 billion in the year ending June 30, 2014, netting $127 million over expenses. $528.4 million, or 41% of total revenue, is from taxpayers’ dollars.

10. Planned Parenthood promotes risky “emergency contraception” to minors.

PPFA promotes over-the-counter sales of high-dose “emergency contraceptive” (EC) pills, even to minors below the age of 15, although lower-dose birth control pills require a prescription due to health risks.

Planned Parenthood’s claim that programs boosting access to ECs would reduce unintended pregnancies and abortions has been rebutted by numerous studies.

11. Planned Parenthood has promoted abortions worldwide, even where it is illegal.

PPFA exports its ideology to developing nations, promoting abortion as family planning. As long ago as 1983, the then-current president of PPFA co-authored and signed a notorious International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) declaration urging affiliates to violate their own countries’ laws and perform illegal abortions: “Family Planning Associations and other non-governmental organizations should not use the absence of a law or the existence of an unfavourable law as an excuse for inaction; action outside the law, and even in violation of it, is part of the process of stimulating change.”

Where RTLO is Going in 2016 “The goals of the Right to Life of Owensboro are to educate the community about the sanctity of life. With YOUR support, here is a list of what we hope to achieve in the next year.

We propose to: -develop an apologetics presentation about abortion/being pro-life at each of the private, Christian middle and high schools in Daviess County (Heritage Christian, Trinity, Owensboro Catholic), so that we can impact and educate teenagers about the importance of abstinence and the reality of abortion.

-using DVD Apologetics material: The Case for Life and Stand for Life by Scott Klusendorf, additional video clips -modify the presentation to local church youth groups (we will begin with the churches we have established connections with, and then extend to the local community area) and additional outreach events to teens in our area -make our message consistent, relevant, and engaging to the population of teens and young adults, through the use of demographically appropriate marketing/educational materials: The Radiance Foundation, Online for Life, etc.

-explore partnerships in the public schools with local organizations like Care Net, for future educational programs -foster a stronger social media presence

Letter from the PRESIDENT Wow. What a year we had at RTLO. The year began for us by promoting Sanctity of Human Life Sunday at several area churches. Then we partnered with other pro-life groups at our annual Commemoration Service at the Daviess County courthouse to educate the community on all the services that are available. Soon after we held our Chili Supper/Silent Auction at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. During this time we also set up educational tables at several local venues.

As we moved into spring and summer, things really began to ramp up for RTLO. We made several appearances at Friday After Five, held our 2nd Art Show hosted by The Crème Coffee House, and heard from local pro-life leaders during our Community Event at WKU-O in May. We ended the summer with our annual Golf Scramble at Ben Hawes, attending the Owensboro Parent Birthday Bash, and our annual Walk for Life. All these events were well attended and we saw many new faces join us in being pro-life in Owensboro.

Just last month we held our annual Banquet at the Hines Center where we heard powerful testimonies and a great keynote speaker. If you were unable to attend the banquet, you can see one of the videos on our Facebook page. The event was one of our most successful banquets in recent years. None of this would have been possible without your support and generosity. And a big thanks to all our volunteers who make what we do possible. EDUCATION CHASTITY PROJECT Jason and Crystalina Evert have spoken to more than one million people on six continents about the virtue of chastity.

After working for Catholic Answers in San Diego for more than a decade, the couple moved to Denver and began a new ministry focused solely on promoting purity: Chastity Project.

Although the two speak to 100,000 students per year, one of their dreams was to make chastity resources available to as many souls around the world as possible. Leaders (both young and old) from more than fifty countries have contacted Jason and Crystalina, asking for chastity resources to be donated to their communities. The two have authored dozens of chastity books, CDs, and DVDs, but didn’t have the funds to purchase the rights to the products and didn’t have the resources for global distribution. Upon moving to Colorado, Jason took a photo of a few boxes of chastity books in a closet in his home, hoping that one day he would have an entire garage of them to send around the world.

Scripture promises that God “is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine,” and we know that He always keeps His promises.

Not long after taking the photo, Jason received an invitation to present his ministry vision to the leaders of Stewardship: A Mission of Faith. He shared with them how he had created numerous resources, and hoped to purchase the rights to them, so that they could be given away or sold for as little as possible.

However, he didn’t have the money, and didn’t own a warehouse. David Abel, the founder of Stewardship, simply said, “Come downstairs with me.” Jason followed, and watched as David opened the doors to one of his warehouses that ships more than 200,000 products daily, and said, “I’m all in.” Thanks to the providence of God and the generosity of a pair of benefactors, Jason and Crystalina were able to purchase the rights to more than a dozen of their resources, and now are offering everything at up to 90% off.

Chastity Project believes that young people play a pivotal role in the new evangelization, and therefore invites them to launch chastity projects within their schools and churches to promote the good news of purity to their peers. As Pope Francis said, “Do you know what the best tool is for evangelizing the young?

Another young person. This is the path to follow!” Those who minister to teens today have unlimited needs, but very limited budgets. Therefore, through low-cost resource distribution, media appearances, seminars, and social media, Chastity Project exists to promote the virtue of chastity so that individuals can see God, and be free to love (Matt. 5:8). The orange and green colors of the Chastity Project logo are from the tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to whom the ministry is consecrated.

Jason Evert; international speaker on the Chastity Project; spoke to the youth of our area grades 7 through 12 on October 25 and 26 at the Riverpark Center and the Owensboro Sportscenter. He addressed the parents of our community as well. He spoke with such a reverence toward life which was able to renew our community on the values of life. He explained the importance of understanding the gift of one’s self to our future spouse. He also encouraged the students on the power of forgiveness; how it is never too late to change and to forgive one self and others. He told the students to respect their God given dignity, about why we were created, and the importance of the dignity of others. His message was a blessing and left a lasting influence on those who attended his program.

EDUCATION We won a huge pro-life victory Friday!

Pro-Life members of the U.S. House voted 240-189 to defund most of Planned Parenthood’s federal money next year and to roll back some of the most life-threatening aspects of Obamacare.

If your member of Congress was one of the 240 pro-life heroes, be sure to give them a big Thank You! The vote was on H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. Because this was a rare “budget reconciliation” bill, it cannot be filibustered when it goes to the U.S. Senate.

That means it would require the support of only 51 senators to pass, instead of the 60 votes required for most bills.

Planned Parenthood lobbied hard against the bill, asking members of Congress to vote no, and informing them of their “intent to score” a “no” vote as a positive pro-choice, pro-Planned Parenthood vote in their voter scorecard. And no wonder – this bill would cost Planned Parenthood $400 million – in just one year!

But National Right to Life worked harder, calling and emailing chapters and volunteers around the country to generate a wave of calls and emails to House members in support of the bill. In the end, Planned Parenthood could only get “no” votes from 182 Democrats and seven Republicans, while 239 Republicans and one Democrat voted for the pro-life bill.

This is a huge victory for the unborn, because it provides the best chance yet to actually get a bill defunding Planned Parenthood and eliminating some of Obamacare’s abuses to the president’s desk.

But even with a 51-vote threshold in the Senate, passage of the bill is far from guaranteed. Of the 54 Republicans in the Senate, several consider themselves “pro-choice” and have voted against defunding Planned Parenthood in the past.

We have a fight on our hands in the Senate and need your help! We’re all geared up to once again call on our thousands of chapters and hundreds of thousands of members and volunteers to flood their senators’ offices with messages insisting they hold firm for defunding of Planned Parenthood, as many have promised they would do.

This battle has to start now! There is no margin for error in the Senate – we need every vote! – so every senator needs to hear from thousands of his or her constituents just as soon as possible!

EDUCATION Former manager: Planned Parenthood ‘views a woman’s body as a profit center’ OCT 8, 2015 HTTP://LIVEACTIONNEWS.ORG/AUTHOR/KRISTI-BURTON-BROWN/KRISTI BURTON BROWN Congressional hearing, former Planned Parenthood manager, Susan Thayer, spoke out.

She worked for the abortion giant for nearly two decades.

Thayer states that her personal goals were to help women and to reduce abortions.

During her time at Planned Parenthood, she came to realize that the organization’s goals were very contrary to her own, telling Congress that “no business, certainly no health-care business should view a woman’s body as a profit center, but that is exactly what Planned Parenthood does.“ Thayer referenced Planned Parenthood’s “corporate culture” in her testimony, revealing that “over time, I learned I was wrong to trust Planned Parenthood.” She saw firsthand how the abortion giant takes advantage of women and terrible circumstances, using them for fundraising opportunities.

EDUCATION Thayer’s written testimony related this example: One of the first times that I saw the truth about Planned Parenthood was in 2002 when a recycling center in my small Iowa town discovered the remains of a newborn child. The Sheriff came to my clinic, seeking records of women who may have been the mother of this child who was born alive and killed. This was not an abortion. It was a murder investigation. So, maybe naively, I thought Planned Parenthood would want to cooperate.

Instead, Planned Parenthood leadership saw this as a fundraising opportunity. Rather than trying to quietly deal with this very sad story, leadership leaked it to the Des Moines Register and capitalized on it, making claims in the media that I knew were completely wrong but which kept the money coming in from around the country to fight this imaginary injustice. A mother killed her born alive child and Planned Parenthood was more interested in profiting off the attention than helping to solve the crime.

Thayer testified that the money-making culture spilled over into multiple areas of Planned Parenthood. “Birth control pills,” she said, “were dispensed to women” without ever being seen by a medical professional.

Great pressure was put on women to choose abortion on the spot at Planned Parenthood. Instead of letting a woman come to terms with the new fact that she was pregnant, she was urged to choose web-cam abortion now. As Thayer testified, web-cam abortions are one of Planned Parenthood’s biggest money-makers: “A woman with a positive pregnancy test would be offered a web-cam abortion on the spot so she couldn’t change her mind,“ Thayer described. She would be “told to take the first set of pills at the clinic,” right away. And no doubt, if women were to change their minds later at home, when the reality of their new baby finally sunk in, the option of abortion reversal would no doubt never be revealed to them by Planned Parenthood.

If a woman experienced health problems with her web-cam abortion, Planned Parenthood sent her to an ER, but “women were told to say they were experiencing a miscarriage” instead of giving facts that could aid in their medical care. This, too, demonstrated to Thayer that Planned Parenthood did not share her concern for the health of women. When Thayer “expressed [her] concerns that web-cam abortions were unsafe and possibly illegal,” she was shut down, her concerns entirely rejected.

Thayer’s written testimony explained her discovery that Planned Parenthood also regularly commits Medicaid fraud . …Planned Parenthood’s focus on its bottom line doesn’t just ignore women’s best interests. It also takes millions of excess dollars from taxpayers. My federal False Claims Act complaint alleges that Planned Parenthood filed false claims totaling about $28 million with Iowa’s Medicaid program for (1) illegally dispensing “medically unnecessary” quantities of oral contraceptive pills and birth control patches to C-Mail Medicaid patients and doing so without a prescription; (2) fraudulently billing the Iowa Medicaid program for abortion-related services; and (3) coercing “donations” from Medicaid patients.

The Daily Caller reported on Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid fraud, quoting Thayer: “Because I had access to the billing system for the whole affiliate, I also know that Planned Parenthood would bill Medicaid for abortion-related services – ultrasounds, office visits, blood tests, medications, and other services that were part of an abortion,” the testimony [Thayer’s] reads. “These types of Planned Parenthood Medicaid billings for abortion-related services have also been found by government auditors in New York and Washington.”

Planned Parenthood’s violations do not benefit women; as Thayer puts it, they “all benefit Planned Parenthood’s bottom line.”
