September 2025
Our team haven't had their feet up! We have released a new training product, with another being written, and many platform updates in the mix. We are always thinking about ways to improve our products and services, so we’re thrilled to be able to put our plans into action.
There are lots of exciting things happening, and we will be sharing big changes to StaffMIS, Stitch and Quest in the coming months, so please keep an eye on our website and on socials.
Aside from work, we also took a day out away from the everyday duties, to enjoy the sunshine and catch up with the rest of the team about non-related work things!
We had our annual summer team event in June - this year was a little different, with a scenic 8km walk planned out by Graham, our Creative Designer, with a few well-earned pitstops along the way for ice cream, lunch, and plenty of good chats.
Welcome to our September update.
We hope it’s been a busy and successful summer across your leisure facilities! As the season winds down, we also hope you’ve found time to step away from the daily routine and recharge. Looking after yourself is just as important as looking after your work.

The ukactive Awards are one of the UK’s largest awards ceremonies for the fitness and activity sector, celebrating both the industry and the people behind it. Congratulations to all our clients who are finalists – it is a credit to your hard work, genuine passion for what you do, and commitment to improving the sector. We are proud to work with a group of such talented and dedicated individuals, and we wish you the very best of luck at the awards.
On a personal note for us as a company…
Congratulations to our very own Managing Director, Caroline Constantine, for being shortlisted as a finalist for the ukactive Outstanding Individual Leadership Award 2025.
As a team, we are delighted that Caroline is receiving industry-wide recognition for her dedication, vision, and positive impact - not just on our team, but across the broader sector.
Caroline truly is an outstanding leader because she has consistently shown that she is not just a Managing Director, but a mentor and advocate. She’s someone who genuinely wants to see her team succeed, both in their roles, and from a personal development point of view, wanting to know more about what makes them tick, and looking for opportunities to nurture their individual skills.
Her leadership style is grounded in a people-first approach. She cares about getting the most out of her team, whilst also being understanding and empathetic when life throws its inevitable curveballs. Caroline recognises that challenges outside of work can impact us all, and her support ensures the team feels valued, respected, and able to thrive both professionally and personally.
Caroline cares about everyone’s opinions and has naturally built up a team structure that focuses less on a hierarchy of seniority, but on a rounded ‘wheel’ structure where every voice is heard, contributions are valued equally, and collaboration is the driver for success.
She brings these same values to her relationships with clients. If you have worked alongside Caroline as a colleague, partner or client, you will have seen her authentic passion for the leisure sector and commitment she brings to driving positive change within it. These qualities are exactly why she has been shortlisted for the ukactive Outstanding Individual Leadership Award 2025. You can show your support by casting your vote for Caroline HERE. The vote closes on 26th September.

Check out our new mini-podcast: ‘At Your Leisure’- the podcast that makes sense of health and safety without sending you to sleep!
Our first series, titled ‘Spoken Right’, ditches the jargon and gets straight to the good stuff -compliance in leisure, made simple. No lectures, no fluff - just bite-sized episodes to help you recalibrate, rethink, and refresh your approach to health and safety.
In one of our latest bite-sized episode, Helen Meckiffe talks us through staff training and the value in seeing it not as a tick-box exercise, but as an opportunity to prevent emergencies turning into chaotic guessing games. Staff training isn’t there just to be crossed off a list, it can help make procedures clear, practiced, second nature, and help teams work together efficiently instead of panicking separately.
We are publishing our weekly podcast episodes on Spotify, and you can check in on old episodes by following the link here. But for those who prefer written text to audio clips, we are sharing 'Episode 4: Staff Training' below.
“Let me tell you a story about what happens when staff training is treated like just another box to tick.Spoiler alert: it involves confusion, chaos and Barry from reception accidentally locking himself in a storeroom.
So once upon a time in a leisure centre, everything seemed to be running smoothly until things went wrong. A pool emergency, a fire alarm sounding unexpectedly, a customer demanding to know the
correct protocol, or staff looked at each other like deer in headlights. It turns out no one really knew what to do.
Why? Because last year’s training had been rushed, the procedures were buried in a handbook somewhere and half the team weren’t sure if they were meant to follow the old rules or the new ones. Meanwhile, Barry had missed the fire drill refresher and was now discovering that storerooms don’t open from the inside.
This is why staff training is critical. It’s not just about ticking a box. It’s about making sure people can actually do their job properly when it matters most. A good training program ensures staff feel confident and capable in real-world situations. Emergencies don’t turn into confused guessing games. Procedures are clear, practised, and second natureno buried handbooks required. Teams work together efficiently instead of panicking separately.
So, here’s the takeaway: don’t leave training to chance, invest in it, refresh it, make it engaging because when the next unexpected moment happens, you’ll want a team who knows exactly what to do and not one who’s frantically searching for Barry.
Stay trained, stay prepared and keep Barry out of storerooms.”

Manual handling incidents account for a staggering 17% of workplace injuries in the UK, resulting in up to 8 million lost working days a year. With lifting comes risks, and without proper manual handling, these tasks can lead to injuries, staff absences, and reduced efficiency.
The good news is, these injuries are completely controllable with an effective manual handling training course.
We have just released our new Manual Handling Awareness Training, with one course for managers and one for frontline staff to provide delegates with an understanding of legislation around manual handling, what injuries could be caused through improper manual handling, how to assess manual handling activities, along with reducing the risk of injury.
Your staff are often required to set up, dismantle, or move heavy or awkward items, such as weights, sports apparatus, or pool inflatables. Safe techniques are essential to protect them from injuries.
By completing a suitable training course, staff not only safeguard themselves but also contribute to a safer environment for visitors, reduce downtime from injury, and ensure that activities run smoothly without disruption.

According to CIPD’s Neuroinclusion at Work Report 2024, around three in ten neurodivergent employees haven’t told their line manager or HR about their neurodivergence. When asked why, 37% said they are concerned about people making assumptions based on stereotypes, 34% said they feel there’s too much stigma and 29% said they are concerned about the possible impact on their career. The other 44% said it’s a private matter that they did not wish to share.
There is still so much stigma surrounding neurodivergence in the workplace, despite rising awareness. Everyone deserves to feel valued for who they are, without fear of being placed at a disadvantage. A lack of understanding around neurodivergence may come from a lack of exposure to the subject, which is where training can make a real difference.
Course aims:
A neurodivergence awareness course can raise our knowledge around the subject, encourage us to make helpful considerations, and shift our approach to dealing with more personal matters in the workplace.
The Neurodiversity course is aimed to raise awareness around neurodiversity, learning inclusive and respectful terminology, recognising and celebrating strengths of neurodivergent minds, removing barriers and challenge bias in the workplace, and foster innovation through inclusion.
