I’m Raphael!

RELEVANT PROJECT EXPERIENCES YEAR 1; MAGIC AT LITTLE INDIA This studio project focuses on creating the identity of the area using our different senses and creating questions of the place. using the persona i abstracted from the site, I then proceeded to create a living space for that persona, in my chosen site of Little India, which was an alley frequented by people and housing multiple altars as a space for worship

I am currently doing Architecture at Nanyang Polytechnic. I developed an interest in Architecture during my Secondary YEAR 2: GENIUS IN NATURE The project assignment was to study the nature and draw inspiration from the school days, when i was taking Design and Technology as a identity of a plant or an animal. We studied nature in botanic gardens, and I found subject. I really loved the idea of designing for the future of inspiration from a swan’s wings. Through the study, i developed a school situated in Singapore, and taking Architecture seemed to be the perfect way MacRitchie reservoir. The school focused on activities such as bird watching and kite to bring my ideas to life. While studying in NYP, i gained making exposure to many different skills and knowledge, through all the language Proficiency various project assignments. I am now comfortable using multiple English - Spoken & Written digital tools such as Revit, Rhino and Autocad, as well as doing Chinese - Spoken free hand sketches and model-making. I really enjoy working language Proficiency with Outside of my design course, I also enjoy making music, English - Spoken & Written having studied piano and other instruments since a young age.

Chinese - Spoken Amidst my busy schedule, I do find time as well to volunteer at my church to help with service and retreats

The way of water Incoporating nature’s elemtents and

JOURNALINGS AND PROJECT FINDINGS

Swans are often recognised as: graceful elegant This is evident even in the motions of their wings

Concept Idea to take the way a swan's wing's moved and reprsent it in different forms In the buildings facaade, in the space created, in the material used

Guru: Swan's wings

Study Model (1) Focuses on the detail of each wing

Comprises on each individual feather to make a whole wing

Issues: Focuses too much on the features rather than the form and space

Study Model (2) FIrst attempt to create balanced wing model

showcases the full "wing span", and the combines the different movements of the wings up and down into a single model

Issues: Weight of the material and length of the model caused the wings to flap down Doesn't properly show the movement of the wings very 2 dimensional and doesn't show space

Virtual Model (Rhino) Front Elevation Decided to create a digital model for reference/site analysis

Showcases different views of what I expected to see in my physical mode;

Issue: the virtual model was slightly unrealistic and hard to put into a physical model exactly

Case Study

By School of Architecture, South China University of Technology, Atelier cnS Build in hopes of providing residents with a sheltered space by placing two sets of bamboostructured landscape pavilions, with other multi-functional purposes, such as holding small events.

Multiple iterations of the structure has been build, the one shown in photos being one of the last few to be build

Pod Redesign

The Reading Pods is a design unique to Bishan Library. However, I personally found many flaws and therefore decided to redesign it. The new design incorporates: 1 . Comfort 2. Ergonomics 3. Space

Facade Redesign

After Relating back to the Pod redesign, i decided to redo the facade of pods on the front of the library.

Before: Pods were too narrow and too tall After: uses redesigned pods and a new format

Window Redesign

After Standing in the library, I realised there was a lack of daylighting. The redesign: 1 . provides more natural lighting as compared to before 2. uses glazing and laminated glass for for protection 3. lights up the interior nicely

Internal Elevation Internal Elevation wise, i included two different views, which are: 1. Internal of Cafe View(Top) 2 . Internal of Library View (Bottom) The materials used are: 1. Wooden wall panelling 2 . patterned wall panelling 3 . Frosted Glass

Level one For the Interior of Level one, I included the material choice for the entrance, main hall and Cafe.
