Ridgeview Endowment Campaign Ridgeview Foundation has launched a fundraising campaign that will help Ridgeview Medical Center sustain its reputation as one of the finest medical centers in the state. The Every Moment Counts campaign focuses on raising endowment funds and capital gifts to help secure our future.

Organizations of our type, size and stature need endowment funds to generate ongoing income. This income serves multiple purposes, among the most important being to buffer against a fluctuating economy and unforeseen hardships that could threaten an organization’s existence.

We can’t rest until the future is secure for Ridgeview. The future health of our region relies on our community today. At this critical time in the life of our organization, almost 100 percent of Ridgeview’s net revenue is required to maintain operations, leaving a very small percentage to invest in technology, facilities and new services. We ask you to please join us and help us continue to provide the highest level of care with kindness, compassion and intuition.

What is an endowment?

Endowed funds differ from others in that the total amount of the gift is invested.

Each year, in accordance with foundation distribution policies, only a portion of the invested income earned is spent while the remainder adds to principal growth. In this respect, an endowment is a perpetual gift. Always equated with excellence and long-term strength, endowments are absolutely essential if we are to remain leaders in health care and the services we provide.

What are the benefits to the donor?

An advantage of creating an endowment is the freedom to choose what program your investment will support at Ridgeview. Endowments inherently bring about a profound impact because of their longevity. The perpetuity of your gift will help Ridgeview sustain support in the area of your choosing. Endowments are an excellent way to honor someone special to you or permanently memorialize a loved one. Once you have gifted to the endowment, your gift becomes part of Ridgeview’s heritage and tradition. In fact, loved ones may also choose to support your fund because they know how special it is to you. Your family and Ridgeview have the opportunity to enjoy a long relationship built around something you value.

Live Auction Agreement 1. Bid numbers will NOT be used this year. To bid, simply raise your hand high for the auctioneer to see. By bidding in the live auction, you agree to be bound by the terms of this auction agreement.

2. The auctioneer reserves the right to add or withdraw items to or from the auction without notice.

3. A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item if the bid is the final, winning bid. If you bid on an item and win it, you agree to pay for the item won, in full, by the end of the evening.

4. All purchases are final and there are no refunds. Further, no exchanges or substitutions are allowed unless the description of an item expressly provides for one. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for cancelled tickets or accommodations.

5. Unless the description of an item expressly provides otherwise, all vacations and services must be claimed and used within one year of the auction date, and all vacation accommodations must be mutually agreed upon with the donor.

6. All items are sold “as is.� Ridgeview Foundation disclaims all express and implied warranties including, but not limited to, warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. If you purchase an item, you waive all claims for damages and liability against Ridgeview Foundation, Ridgeview Medical Center and the donor of the item, that arise or may arise, in whole or part, from the utilization of the property or services you purchased.

7. You are responsible for locating and removing your purchases from the auction premises before the end of the evening. If you purchase a service or other nontangible item and the certificate for the item is not available at the auction, it will be mailed to you within one week of the auction.

8. Ridgeview Foundation will automatically charge your credit card unless otherwise directed by the winning bidder. Winning bidders who have registered their credit cards at registration will have their credit cards billed for their auction totals at the end of the evening.

9. Payments are tax-deductible as a charitable contribution only to the extent provided by law. Generally, you may deduct as a charitable contribution the amount you pay above the fair market value of the item purchased. Please consult your tax professional.

Silent Auction: Electronic Bidding Ridgeview Foundation has added a new feature this year, hosted by AuctionsByCellular (ABC)—electronic bidding on all silent auction items! All bidding will be done through your cell phone or computer. You can bid from anywhere, anytime before the close of the auction right from your own device. You even get an update if you are outbid!

How to Participate in the Auction: • Online pre-registration will be available on Friday, June 20: Go to www.ridgeviewfoundation.org, click on the provided link, register for the event, view the items and begin bidding!

• After you register you will receive a welcome text message and then there are four ways to bid:

1. B y Text: Text the 3-digit item number and amount (rounded to the nearest whole dollar) to the welcome message you receive, e.g., 101 500; no dollar signs or decimals are needed.

Ridgeview Foundation Giving Clubs The Founder's Society Ridgeview Foundation established The Founder’s Society in 2002 to recognize Ridgeview Medical Center’s most generous donors. Founder’s Society members make individual commitments of $10,000 or greater, which can be paid at one time or through a payment program over a period of years. There are more than 300 Founder’s Society members who cumulatively have gifted over $19.5 million and have $2.1 million in outstanding pledges.

Expanded oncology services now available At Ridgeview, staff takes great pride in delivering care with kindness, compassion and intuition. Cancer care at Ridgeview is no exception. With a growing number of cancer diagnoses and treatments each year, we challenge ourselves to provide the best care possible, with access to state-of-the-art technology, the latest research and world-renowned expertise.

In fact, based on the number of cancer patients diagnosed in 2011, Minneapolis/ St. Paul Business Journal ranked Ridgeview No. 15 among Minnesota cancer programs. But it’s not about numbers. We strive to maintain the unique Ridgeview experience patients expect through our multidisciplinary care team including physicians and an array of specialty support staff such as certified oncology nurses, breast care nurses, social workers, spiritual care providers, clinical dietitians and more.

Cancer care at Ridgeview Medical Center is nationally recognized as a Community Hospital Cancer Program, a comprehensive program that offers all the services an adult cancer patient will need. Ridgeview’s program provides a variety of services including diagnosis, treatment, education and support.

Appointments Appointments are available Monday through Friday. Wait time for new patients is less than 48 hours. Same-day appointments can often be arranged for urgent cases. At the initial appointment, a nurse navigator begins to work with and can help guide patients and families throughout their experience.

At a Glance: About Ridgeview’s oncology specialists Gail Bender, MD Gail P. Bender, MD, is board certified in Oncology and provides personalized care to patients with cancer and blood diseases. She is also board certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Bender was selected as one of the “Top Doctors in the Twin Cities” in Mpls. St. Paul magazine in 2009, and was named to the 2013 “Best Doctors for Women” list by Minnesota Monthly magazine. She sees patients in Waconia.

Kamran Darabi, MD Board certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology, Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking, and Internal Medicine, Kamran Darabi, MD, serves as medical director for Ridgeview’s oncology and hematology clinic.

In addition to seeing patients for the full spectrum of oncology needs, Dr. Darabi sees patients in Chaska and Waconia for hematologic disorders, such as anemia, hemophilia, blood clots and blood cancers (leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma).

Birendra Kumar, MD Birendra Kumar, MD, is board certified in Hematology/ Oncology. Dr. Kumar provides hematology and oncology care in Chaska, Waconia, Arlington and Glencoe, and oversees chemotherapy and infusion therapy services at Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center.

Two Twelve Medical Center ribbon cutting A ribbon cutting was held April 15 to celebrate the opening of the new 73,000-square-foot addition to Two Twelve Medical Center. The three story addition is located to the north of the original building, which opened in 2011. Officials at the Two Twelve Medical Center ribbon cutting included Chaska City Administrator Matt Podhradsky, Scott Hughes, Ed Farr, Luigi Bernardi, Kris Hahn, Tim Schmidt, Curtis Sell, Ridgeview President and CEO Robert Stevens, Chaska Mayor Mark Windschitl, Taylor Stephens, Todd Archbold, Steven Michals, John Prondzinski and Michael Phelps. Dr. Hamza returns to Ridgeview Clinics Haizal (Nina) Hamza, MD, recently returned to Ridgeview Chanhassen Clinic as an internal medicine doctor. She sees adult patients for annual exams, illness care, and the diagnosis and treatment of chronic medical problems. Dr. Hamza works with patients to “find that balance in taking care of your health while still living your life. At a Glance: Thanks to our volunteers!

Jeff and Marianne Nelson have been Ridgeview volunteers for almost 20 years. Both have been members of the golf committee. Jeff is the co-chair again this year and also serves on the Ridgeview Medical Center Board of Directors. We sat down to talk with them about what Ridgeview means to them.

You have both been a part of our Golf & Taste Celebration for years; how did you get involved?

Jeff: About 20 years ago, Ric Dressen (former Waconia school district superintendent) was chair of the event. He jokingly asked me if I wanted our kids to graduate from high school and I thought “yeah, that would be a good thing!” He got me involved with the event and, when Ric left the committee, I became co-chair and dragged poor Marianne along.

What do you like most about the day?

Jeff: It’s about friendships and building relationships. I really enjoy the Taste of the Ridgeview Region because people are milling around and having a good time.

Marianne: The first thing that comes to mind is the people. All the people—the volunteers, golfers, Ridgeview staff—make it a great thing. It’s good to see that there are so many people wanting to see Ridgeview be successful.

What does having Ridgeview here in our community mean to you? What do you think it means to our region?

Jeff: Ridgeview is a cornerstone of Waconia and is becoming the cornerstone of the region. Our community is a unique place to live. We have a good school system, a medical system, the lake and downtown. All of these things are cornerstones of the community.

Marianne: We have a highly unique and desirable community. It is a place people want to live in all stages of life—from when you are raising a young family to when you are aging and you want and need good medical care. Our region is very unique in that way.

Money raised through the Golf & Taste Celebration this year will benefit our Every Moment Counts endowment campaign. Why is this campaign so important for Ridgeview?

Jeff: The endowment campaign really resonates with me. We are independent and want to stay that way. The golf event helps with that. By building an endowment, we can ensure operating funds for the future so Ridgeview can do more innovative things like the Two Twelve Medical Center. Places that have great endowments have great brands, and we have a great brand.

Marianne: An endowment allows us to be innovative. The hospital is very connected to the community; it’s not an impersonal place. The doctors, the staff and the community are all tied together.

Why do you choose to volunteer/donate to Ridgeview Foundation?

Jeff: Ridgeview is that cornerstone of the community; I want to see it remain independent. There is a lot of consolidation in the industry and we, as board members, talk about it frequently. We want to stay independent. Ridgeview is an extremely important piece of Waconia and the region—it really is the region— it fills an important niche.

Marianne: I want to show appreciation for what a great community we have, and I want to help others. There is a sense of pride that makes you feel good—to be part of a successful and worthwhile cause.
