The Fire

Devised by Rider University students and faculty, THE FIRE is a world premiere production that investigates the theme of "perspective," while taking an in-depth look at the United States education system. Set in a fictional small town, the story follows a cast of characters as they try to solve a mystery about who burned down an abandoned school.

Combining verbatim text from real-life interviews, improvisation, and movement, this collaborative piece will explore the nature of an organizational system, examine how it affects different members of a community, and consider what happens when it becomes too complicated to change.

Resonating from deep within the musical traditions of South Africa, the voices of Thula Sizwe call out with songs of peace and hope Reminiscent of the harmonies of Ladysmith Black Mambazo heard on Paul Simon’s Graceland album, Thula Sizwe’s arrangements are rich, soulful, and uplifting Blending their tuneful singing with traditional dance and drumming, this ten-man ensemble brings an authentic snapshot of Zulu culture to the eyes and ears of the American public

Australia’s national youth choir, Gondwana Chorale, was established in 2008. Its members come from throughout Australia and range in age from 17 – 26. They perform music that is close to their hearts: new Australian works which capture the mystery and grandeur of our land and display the cultural diversity of the Australian people. The work of the choir is a powerful expression of the determination of young Australians to work together to create extraordinary musical ensembles

Pianist Lydia Brown has achieved and enjoys a diverse career in recital, opera and chamber music. She has appeared in recital at the Salle Cortot, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Alice Tully Hall, Weill Hall, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Coolidge auditorium at the Library of Congress and the Phillips Gallery and has toured with many prominent artists from the rosters of the Pro Musicis Foundation, Young Concert Artists, the Piatigorsky Foundation, Musicians from Marlboro and Concert Artists Guild.

Dr.NathanielGumbs

Concert organist Nathaniel Gumbs has performed at many venues in the U.S.A. and abroad. He is Director of Chapel Music at Yale University where he coordinates music for three worshiping communities: the University Church in Battell Chapel, and at Yale Divinity School in both Marquand Chapel and Berkeley Divinity School.

Dr.FeliciaBarber

Dr. Felicia Barber served for the past nine years as Director of Choral Activities at Westfield State University, in Westfield, Mass , where she led the Chamber Chorale, Gospel Choir, and University Chorus and taught classes in conducting, choral music education, and pedagogy. Barber’s research interests include effective teaching strategies, fostering classroom diversity and incorporating equity and justice initiatives in choral curricula, and the linguistic performance practice of African American spirituals. In residency with Celebration of Black Music

Dr.RochelleEllis

Rochelle Ellis, DMA Voice, is a performer, teacher and conductor. She held positions as Adjunct Associate Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College of Rider University and Lecturer of Voice at Princeton University. She has sung extensively in the U. S. A. and internationally in both concert and opera. She made her New York City Opera debut in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, and her Carnegie Hall debut in Bach’s Cantata 140, under the baton of the late Joseph Flummerfelt In residency with Celebration of Black Music

Dr.RosephanyePowell

Rosephanye Powell has been hailed as one of America’s premier women composers of solo vocal and choral music. She has an impressive catalogue of works published by some of the nation’s leading publishers, including the Hal Leonard Corporation, the Fred Bock Music Companies, Gentry Publications, Oxford University Press, and more. Dr. Powell’s works have been conducted and premiered by internationally renowned conductors and have been premiered at distinguished halls around the country, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to name a few esidency with Celebration of ck Music

Dr.DonaldNally

Donald Nally collaborates with creative artists, leading orchestras, and art museums to make new works for choir that address social and environmental issues. He has commissioned nearly 200 works and, with his ensemble The Crossing (Musical America’s 2024 Ensemble of the Year), has produced thirty-four recordings, winning three Grammy Awards for Best Choral Performance, while nominated nine times. 2024-25 Full-time, Visiting Faculty
