Message from the District Governor

November 2021

Greetings to all my fellow Life Changing Rotary leaders: November is Rotary Foundation Month. Rotarians throughout the world take time to reflect on the work of The Rotary Foundation (TRF), the charity that sets us apart from other service organizations.

Through our Foundation, we have the power to live up to the words of our Foundation’s motto: Doing Good in the World. Through it, we can do so much more good than we could ever do alone. And it matters so much – to people just like us.

At the 1917 Rotary Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, then-Rotary President Arch C. Klumph said: “It seems eminently proper that we should accept endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world.” More than a hundred years later, we recognize Klumph’s idea as not only visionary, but revolutionary. It is impossible to quantify the good that has been done over the last century as a result of The Rotary Foundation.

Since the TRF came into existence with a first donation of $26.50, the Foundation has supported and strengthened our service, enabled our hopes, our aspirations, and allowed us to be the organization that we are. Because of the Foundation, Rotarians know that if we have the resolve to do more and put in the work, very little is truly beyond us.

It is an incredibly effective model that we have here in Rotary, one that no other organization can match. We are completely local and completely global: We have local skills, connections, and knowledge in over 100 clubs in our district and more than 35,000 clubs worldwide. We have a deserved reputation for transparency, effectiveness, and good business practices, and because we are highly skilled professionals as well as volunteers, we achieve a level of efficiency that very few other organizations can approach.

To put it simply, every Peso or Dollar given to The Rotary Foundation has a great deal more muscle compared to most charities. If you want to share some of your resources on Doing Good in the World, you can't do better than to spend it with the TRF. That is not just me speaking out of pride; it is verifiably true and is reflected in our rankings by independent organizations.

To reach those who need us, to spread the love that our Foundation brings, we will need to rise to this challenge and work together to meet our funding needs. Mother Teresa once said that “If we want a message of love to be heard, it has to be sent out. To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.”

The Rotary Foundation offers the best opportunity I know for us to invest in a better future for communities around the world. Your generosity today and throughout this year is the oil that keeps our grants burning bright, reaching the ones who need us most.

Message from the RI President November 2021 Message

I

first discovered the value of service when I saw how a few simple acts can immeasurably change lives. It began when I joined others in my club for a project to bring toilets and clean drinking water to rural villages near our city. It moved forward when we promoted sanitation and provided opportunities for education across the country, thanks to generous gifts from supporters who believed in our projects as much as those of us on the ground did.

There is no better time of the year to be reminded of that generosity than November, which is Rotary Foundation Month.

As the charitable arm of Rotary International, The Rotary Foundation is the engine that powers so many Rotary projects throughout the world. The Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that change lives. It is the Foundation that helps us to get closer to our goal of eradicating polio, to show more people how we promote peace through tangible actions, and to demonstrate the impact our projects have in our areas of focus.

Consider some recent projects that were made possible by the Foundation: The Rotary clubs of Guatemala La Reforma, Guatemala, and Calgary, Alberta, received an $80,000 global grant to organize a comprehensive plan to train nurses and rural health care workers to prevent and treat cervical cancer and to implement a sustainable system of referrals in seven regions of Guatemala.

 More than two dozen hospitals in Honduras received personal protective equipment for their medical staff thanks to a $169,347 global grant sponsored by the Rotary clubs of Villa Real de Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and Waldo Brookside-Kansas City, Missouri.  The Rotary clubs of Cotonou Le Nautile, Benin, and Tournai Haut-Escaut, Belgium, received a $39,390 global grant to provide agricultural training at an ecologically responsible permaculture mini-farm connected to a center for children in Sowé, Benin. This will help a new generation of farmers become economically self-sufficient.

Message from the TRF Chair November 2021

W

hen people ask me what The Rotary Foundation is, I tell them it’s the heart of Rotary. You may have heard before that Rotary has an intelligent heart. The Foundation combines our emotional response of compassion with pragmatic action. With both heart and brains, you can change the world.

So, what does the Foundation mean to you? November is Rotary Foundation Month, but do you really know our Foundation?

First, it truly is our Foundation. The Rotary Foundation doesn’t belong to me or the other 14 trustees, nor to the RI Board of Directors, nor to the RI president. It belongs to each Rotarian around the world.

And it’s there for all of us to change the world. We save mothers and children because we have compassion, and we know how to plan. We provide clean water and sanitation where they’re needed to those who need them, because we build strategies based on a community’s needs. We combine support for peace, education, and economic stability for at-risk communities with an ability to manage big projects.

Giving to the Foundation is smart, too, because in doing so, you multiply the value of that gift. How many other foundations can you think of that identify the projects, fund them, and run them on the ground themselves? Ours is the only one I know. And we get it all done at such a relatively low administrative cost. This is one reason Charity Navigator consistently gives the Foundation a four-star rating.

There’s a saying that goes, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

I sometimes get asked a question: How much should I be giving to the Foundation? Each year, make a gift of what you can afford to give. For some, that is $100, and for others, more. What’s most important is that you give something, because each generous gift helps us meet the increased demand we’re seeing from members for global grants and our other programs.

This year, we want to raise $50 million for PolioPlus, which will be matched 2-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, for a total of $150 million. If every Rotary club contributed just $1,500, we would surpass this goal. We have other goals as well — for the Annual Fund, the Endowment Fund, and outright gifts — adding up to a grand total of $410 million.

We will get there if we set our hearts — and minds — to it. But remember, it’s not about the money; it’s what the money can do.

There’s a saying that goes, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

The Foundation is that stone, so let us turn ripples into great waves with it, using our hearts and our minds.

Spouse Membership is Low Hanging Fruit

A

s a career Sales/Marketing professional, it was always easier to “close the sale” when our potential client had familiarity with our product. And, in many cases, already liked it. In sales, we call this the “low hanging fruit.”

Most Rotary clubs already have potential members close by.

In my Rotary Club of Sandusky, Ohio, we were blessed with members who recruited spouses to volunteer at our fundraiser each year. The Pizza Challenge needed many hands to work side-by-side with members. On Saturdays in September through November, these same spouses are always eager to volunteer for our annual “Clothes Kids” project where they are matched with a child to go clothes shopping. I know this because on each of the five Saturdays at 7:30 am these spouses are waiting anxiously to find out which child they will shop with.

Also, all our members’ spouses attended the annual holiday luncheon enjoying the sounds of our high school’s bell choir. They help with the annual picnic as well. Our membership chair invited her husband to most events. Bill was nearing retirement from public office and Judy started to discuss the possibility of him becoming a full member.

The problem was cost. As a club of 100 members, we must guarantee the number of meals to our Yacht Club to insure there is enough staff and food. Semi-annual dues, RI dues, district dues, a nominal scholarship donation, and 25 prepaid weekly meals. For many families, adding that addition $800 expense a year was just too expensive.

Thankfully, Judy kept working with our membership committee on options. At the same time, Rotary International began promoting stories of alternative membership formats and looking at these helped. Our committee spent months speaking to members and spouses who were the most visible at our events and service projects.

As a result, we introduced a spouse membership option that was a good value: waiving the requirement to prepay meals. We learned in our interviews that spouses would not come to every lunch. That was not their primary motivation.

In the Spouse/Partner Plan, meals are paid based on actual attendance and billed in the next Semi-Annual Statement, not in advance. RI Dues and District Dues were kept in the plan pricing.

We introduced the new plan in September 2019. That October, the first new spouse members were Bill, our membership chair’s husband, and Dale, the long-time partner of Rotarian Carole Romp. They were all smiles as was the club.

It was contagious after that. In January 2020, four more spouse members were welcomed. The pending list was five more. We needed these enthusiastic new members as COVID-19 hit. We have lost members to death and job relocation this year. By next month, six more will officially join our club.

But it’s not just about numbers.

Bill Monaghan volunteered at the Clothes Kids project with his wife, Judy, even before becoming a member of the club.

These new members are active and retired teachers and nurses, a retired county commissioner, and leaders from small businesses. They may not attend every meeting, but they are our hardest workers. In November, our “Clothes Kids” Shopping did not miss a child because we had even more volunteers on tap this year.

I am convinced that Each One Bring One may be as easy for clubs as asking those special friends who already feel like members to join the family of Rotary.

Strategies for the future This year, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) announced a new five-year strategy for 202226 to end all polioviruses, including tackling the persistent transmission of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus. Rotary and our GPEI partners identified the remaining obstacles to polio eradication and developed approaches to reaching the goal. The plan aims to achieve and sustain a polio-free world through a focus on implementation and accountability while using innovative methods and tools.

The emphasis will be on decreasing the response time to any outbreak, increasing vaccine demand, increasing access to health care and vaccines, transitioning toward government ownership of vaccination programs, and improving decision-making and accountability.

“Some of the most polio-endemic communities are also the ones that suffer from *a+ lack of basic health and civic services,” Jafari said. The goal, he said, is a “better alignment and inte-

The World Polio Day program featured global health experts addressing the new strategy’s tactic of broadening distribution of a new vaccine to address outbreaks of cVDPV2, a circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus. This novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2) protects children against polio while being more genetically stable and less likely to regain strength and cause the vaccine-derived polio. It has already been introduced in several African countries, including Benin, Chad, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, and Sierra Leone.

This novel oral polio vaccine “is a powerful example of the polio program’s innovation to overcome the toughest challenges,” said Simona Zipursky, senior adviser to the polio director of WHO. “Partners, scientists, and leaders from around the world made nOPV2 possible. This is the kind of collaboration that will help end polio for good.”

This year’s program included a powerful video of polio health workers in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as Rotary members sharing their World Polio Day projects and events to raise awareness for polio eradication.

one 10A Philippines 2021 Virtual Polio Summit was held tonight with top Rotary International Leaders led by PRIP John Germ, RID Jessie Harman, PRIVP Michael McGovern, PRID Robert Hall joining us with more than a thousand Rotarians and Rotaractors in attendance coming from different parts of the world celebrating World Polio Day and how the fight to end polio all started in the Philippines and why Rotary International adopted it as its international flagship project.

t was a fiesta atmosphere that greeted almost 400 Rotarians and guests as District Governor Ed Ayento led the celebration of the World End Polio Day at the Quezon Memorial Circle last October 24, 2021. They were in a convoy of 78 cars and big bikes that participated in a motorcade from the Rotary Center and was welcomed by Ati-Atihan dancers, stilt walkers and a table laden with native delicacies.

The guest of honor and speaker Dr. Mary Rochelle Paulino of the Quezon City Health Department delivered a very informative presentation on the status of the End Polio program in the city, giving prominence to the active role of Rotary District 3780 in the government’s anti-polio campaign. Rotary honors 6 members as People of Action: Champions of Girls’ Empowerment

R

otary International honored six members as People of Action: Champions of Girls' Empowerment on 11 October, the International Day of the Girl Child. This distinction recognizes the honorees' commitment to improving girls' access to education, health, and sanitation and hygiene resources, as well as their work to create environments where girls can flourish. Empowering girls is one of RI President Shekhar Mehta's key initiatives, and he is encouraging clubs and districts to consider how they can accomplish this through all of their service projects this year.

The honorees will also be recognized at Rotary Day at UNICEF in March.

Mildred Fragante

Momtaz Chowdhury Rotary Club of Dhaka Mavericks, Bangladesh Momtaz Chowdhury is Vice President of the Institution for Shelter, Training, and Development of Underprivileged Girls in Dhaka, Bangladesh, which provides housing, food, and education for girls through secondary school. The organization offers vocational training and, when the girls graduate, job placement assistance. Chowdhury has also helped girls through the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee and her family's own educational philanthropy projects. Chowdhury believes that instilling leadership and entrepreneurial skills in girls benefits them as well as their communities, which is why she works with banks to provide flexible loans for female entrepreneurs. She also collaborates with banks to provide small business aid to women who have lost their jobs because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rotary Club of Cubao Metro Aurora, Quezon City, Philippines Mildred Fragante has worked tirelessly in her career to raise awareness of abuse of women and children. She was a producer for Women's Desk, a national TV program that collaborated with the Women and Children Protection Center on stories about domestic abuse.

Fragante also founded Aurora, a resource and education program that works to empower girls, and Reconnect, a program that pairs journalists and authors with survivors of abuse so that the writers can better tell these stories. And her club used a Rotary Foundation global grant to renovate a community shelter for abused girls in 2018.

Rotary Club of Senador Guiomard, Acre, Brazil Elaine Ruiz is the director of Sewing the Future, a project that offers professional training to young women in the criminal justice system. It trains girls to become seamstresses, artisans, and service workers, which helps them find work after they're released and reduces their chances of being convicted of crimes again. Ruiz serves as a liaison between the girls and the justice system and plays an integral part in establishing financial partnerships in the community.

Rotaract Club of Bangalore Seshadripuram, Karnataka, India Srinidhi S.U. has devoted his Rotaract work to the health needs of women and girls in his community. He served as the project chair for a menstrual hygiene management session in 2018 and later founded a local group of Project Sthree to address women's health concerns, including menstrual hygiene, thyroid and breast cancer, and HPV. The initiative also provides leadership and safety training. He has spoken and collaborated with Red Dot Talks, which encourages men to discuss menstrual issues. His work has given more than 5,000 girls a greater awareness of menstrual hygiene.

Lydiah Njoroge Rotary Club of Kiambu, Kenya Lydiah Njoroge is the program manager for Freedom for Girls at HEART (Health Education Africa Resource Team), where she has directly affected the lives of almost 300,000 girls in Kenya and other parts of East Africa by providing hygiene products to keep them healthy and in school. Njoroge has conducted extensive research on how menstrual concerns affect girls' access to education. She has worked with Rotary clubs both in the U.S. and Kenya and with Procter & Gamble's Always Keeping Girls in School initiative as well as facilitates relationships with partners to create programs that provide girls with resources and helps them get an education. This program has reached girls in more than 500 schools and trained more than 10,000 teachers in mentoring female students.

Motalib Weijters Rotary Club of Uden, The Netherlands Motalib Weijters, who was adopted by Dutch parents, knew very little about his biological family or about life in their home country of Bangladesh. In 1994, he reconnected with his birth family, and he saw the needs of people in their area. He worked on water and sanitation projects in Bangladesh and later founded a clinic for mothers and children. He also established a cervical and breast cancer treatment center that offers services to women and girls in need. These initiatives have helped more than 21,000 people. The clinics are financially sustained by support from nongovernmental organizations and Rotary grant projects carried out by clubs in the Netherlands and Bangladesh.

Policy references are to the Rotary Code of Policies. Any decisions made by the Rotary International Board of Directors take precedence over information in this publication. District governors, district youth protection officers, and all club and district leaders involved in Interact, RYLA, or Rotary Youth Exchange should review this guide. Districts may also apply these guidelines to other youth activities or when working with any vulnerable population.

No organization or program is invulnerable to abuse or crises. They can and do occur in even the most seemingly positive settings. Predators often seek teaching, coaching, or other positions that give them access to children and teenagers. Others who are committed to working with youth sometimes find it hard to believe that some adults will abuse the trust placed in them, so they may not notice the signs. Rotary takes youth protection very seriously, and it relies on our members to foster safe environments that prevent abuse and to respond appropriately when it occurs.

Statement of Conduct for Working with the Youth The statement of conduct provides the basic principle to follow when working with young people in any capacity: “Rotary International strives to create and maintain a safe environment for all youth who participate in Rotary activities. To the best of their ability, Rotarians, Rotarians’ spouses and partners, and other volunteers must safeguard the children and young people with whom they come into contact and protect them from physical, sexual, and psychological abuse”.

District Youth Protection Officer It is strongly recommended that District Governors appoint a youth protection officer to foster safe operations across all youth programs. The officer should be a resource on abuse, harassment, and other risks and crises. This person should have professional experience in counseling, social work, law, law enforcement, or child development.

A youth protection officer should: Monitor changes in national and local laws related to youth protection to keep district policies and procedures up-to-date, as well as any changes in RI policies, and tell the governor and district program chairs about them Work with the district and clubs to inform all Rotary members of their youth protection obligations Confirm that appropriate screening measures are used for all youth programs, in compliance with Rotary policies and local laws Direct the selection of Rotary member and nonmember volunteers and make sure that volunteer screening is documented appropriately Ensure that appropriate training is provided to Rotary members, other volunteers, and youth program participants and their parents Oversee the proper handling of allegations, harassment, or other crises, and protect the interests of all who are involved.

Club Presidents, Club Program Chairs, and Other Club Officers’ Roles Rotary club presidents have the overall responsibility for operating and coordinating club youth activities, with support from club committee members.

A club’s president and committees should: Know all Rotary and district youth protection policies and program operations that apply to a club’s involvement, and ensure that club programs meet policy requirements Implement required training, screening, program logistics, and risk management procedures Engage regularly with youth program participants to get feedback on the programs Coordinate with the district youth program chair and district youth protection officer to respond immediately and thoroughly to all allegations of abuse, harassment, and other crises Those who have admitted to, have been convicted of, or are known to have engaged in sexual abuse or sexual harassment of a youth or program participant are ineligible for Rotary membership — even if these crimes were committed long ago.

Any volunteer who admits to, is convicted of, or is otherwise known to have engaged in sexual abuse or sexual harassment or other act that violates the accepted standard of behavior in the community must be prohibited from working with youths through Rotary.

RC Broadway Super Heroes Night

I

t was an affair to remember. A night of fun, learning, games, Tik-tok, raffle prizes and enjoyment.

The Rotary Club of Broadway, QC in celebration of Rotary International Membership Month held their virtual 2021 Annual Membership Fellowship Night dubbed as “Broadway SuperHeroes” on August 25, 2021 at 7:30 pm via Zoom.

Excited club officers and members including prospective members wore their Superhero costumes (Avengers, Justice League etc.) as they opened their laptops and desktops to attend the virtual event.

Each member spoke the famous lines of their superhero. What is Superman's famous line? “No matter where you go in life there's always going to be the one person that wants to bring you down, so stay 28

strong and face your problems instead of running away.”

Also as every kid of us always has this in mind, “We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.”

A night attended largely by all the club officers and members headed by LCP Pres Al Calonge and also with five prospective/incoming Rotarians.

RC Biak na Bato Signs Agreement with QC Dental Chapter THE ROTARY CLUB OF BIAK na BATO SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH the QC DENTAL CHAPTER.

he Rotary Club of Biak-na-Bato, RID 3780 entered into a Memorandum of Agreement, on October 17, 2021 with the Quezon City Dental Chapter for mutual cooperation, support and understanding .

As well, both parties will jointly undertake dental-related services for outreach programs and services, to wit, libreng pustiso at libreng bunot program as well as the intensive promotion of dental education, health and oral hygiene to its beneficiaries.

The Libreng Pustiso and Libreng Bunot are the signature twin projects of the Club of Biak na Bato and has been in existence for more than 37 years.

The Memorandum Of Agreement was executed between both parties at the club’s 40th Club Induction Ceremony, held at the District 3780 Rotary Center Foundation, Inc. Bldg., Quezon City.

RC North Balintawak Simultaneous Projects

O

n September 30th, RC North Balintawak with Life Changing President Rey Reyes at San Jose High School: Brigada Eskwela donation of three thermal guns, BP monitor, alcohol, facemasks and face shields; Signature project "Isang Gunting, Isang Suklay" wherein students were taught how to cut hair, however, due to current pandemic restrictions the mothers of the students participated in the project instead. Kits containing, capes, cutting scissors and paraphernalia were given, plus snacks from Goldilocks. Free health Check consisting of Blood pressure monitoring and Blood Glucose testing was done.

RC Masambong Celebrates World Teachers’ Day

he Rotary Club of Masambong once more showed our love and appreciation for the teachers of our adopted school by participating with the celebration of the World Teacher's Day which was held on October 6, 2021. It was headed by our very active LCP Joan Lolong. We can't deny the fact that the pandemic challenged everyone including our teachers. Also with the initiative of President Joan and the rest of the Rotarians, we extended our help by providing raffle items, tokens and cash prizes to our dear teachers. RC Loyola Heights Continuing Project for the Elderly

hile some of us can work comfortably in our homes, other people are experiencing the current pandemic lockdowns a lot worse. For the Little Sisters of the Elderly in San Juan City, the lockdown means a struggle to provide for the abandoned lolas (grandmothers) in their care.

Early this Rotary Year, our club decided to build another 200 feet deep well, and will be operational starting early next month, this time to feed water to the homes in the community, to stave off diseases brought about by dirty water, fetched from the river that passes through the village. With a powerful electric pump we hope to achieve pumping of the water throughout the community. This second well was financed by Immediate Past District Governor Johnny Gaw Yu.

The Rotary Club of Pagasa initially adopted the Kanawan Integrated School, which we then called a project. During the TGP year, then Governor Chito Borromeo suggested that we turn the project into a program. He suggested that our club adopt the whole community instead, to make it a better place. That signaled the birth of the Kanawan Indigenous Community Development Program. The village’s water was fetched from a river that cuts through the village. Our dream is to make the village disease-free by providing clean water and improved sanitation.

est effort by RC Balintawak to vaccinate our community in this trying times, knowing it has not been easy to look for volunteers and acquire vaccines, specially free vaccines. RC Bagong Sandigan Supports Ambulant Vendors

elping hands are what we need during this pandemic. In an effort to at least care for the health of our ambulant vendors, Life Changing President Ebenezer "Bong" Beloy along with some members of the Rotary Club of Constitution Hill-Bagong Sandigan (RCBS) distributed Vitamin C packs.

The distribution was overseen by Rotarian Jovz Poblacion at the Christ the King Parish community. The Sandigans hope to help our beloved ambulant vendors who greatly depend on their jobs stay healthy and strong to be able to keep providing for their families in these trying times.

RC Midtown QC EduKatutubo Ground Breaking

he Rotary Club of Midtown Quezon City, together with its sponsored clubs and external partners, formally broke ground for the EduKatutubo Project last October 10, 2021. The club officers, members and their families are dedicated in their desire to aid in the development and empowerment of the indigenous people in Tanay, Rizal . Children and young people of indigenous families remain less likely to be enrolled in school or in training programmes and more likely to underperform than non-indigenous children. Community Pan-Tree D3780

he Rotary Clubs of Camp Aguinaldo, Cubao EDSA, Kamuning East and West Triangle held a Community Pan-Tree where they distributed seedlings to their members and adopted Community Garden. This is in response to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ call tor residents of Metro Manila to start urban gardening and help them cope with pandemic stress. To support the project, the four clubs also donated seedlings to their friends and families to help ignite the passion for urban gardening.

RC Masambong Book Pantry

he Rotary Club of Masambong ensures that we provide all possible help that we can extend to our adopted school. As part of our advocacy in promoting education in Masambong High School with this year's theme " Ahon Masambong High" with our very supportive LCP Joan O Lolong with Rotarians Prin Ernest Ferrer, Rtn Grace Garcia, PE Jack Well and Rtn Billy Cruzdaz launched a project called "Book Pantry" last October 20, 2021. The club donated books, magazines, novels, educational learning materials which will be shared to the learners of the school. We believe that reading is an integral part of learning and thus, we value its importance. With this project, we aim to empower our youths to make them better individuals and proudly stand someday as great leaders of our nation.

Catch Up Immunization RC North EDSA

T

he Rotary Club of North EDSA thru its Life Changing President Getz Valler held a “Catch Up Immunization” project to update the vaccines of babies and children whose vaccine shots were missed due to the pandemic. Additionally, house to house visits for vaccinations will be done until December of this year, in partnership with the Department of Health and Quezon City Health Department.

On October 25, 2021, the club, in its commitment to support the eradication of polio held a Polio immunization activity and included other essential baby vaccines fort their adopted barangay from 0-23 months old, 6 to 7 years old and 12 to 13 years old to protect them against Measles, Rubella, Tetanus and Diphtheria.

Vitamin C, multi Vitamins, Alcohol, and End Polio Face Masks also were distributed. Due to pandemic restrictions, only a limited number of workforce and beneficiaries were allowed inside the vaccination center where 250 babies were vaccinated, including those who received their vaccinations in their homes.

RC Greenfields QC Blood Letting Activity

A

bloodletting activity was conducted by the Rotary Club of Greenfields headed by LCP Mark Anthony R. Peralta and the Rotaract Club of Greenfields represented by President Chivas Ayroso, in partnership with PP Nap Marilag of Dugong Alay Dugong Buhay. This was also done with the cooperation of the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center and St. Luke's Medical Center and Barangay Sagad officials, last October 10, 2021 at the Barangay Sagad Covered Court in Pasig City. A total of one hundred sixteen (116) blood donors showed up at the said event, with about five hundred cc (500 ) of blood donated.

RC Kamuning East PHISHING Data Privacy and Security

T

he Covid pandemic gave rise to digital transformation where communications and transactions are made through cyberspace.

A webinar on cyber phishing in partnership with Eastern Communications and the First Inspiring Rotaract Club (FIRC) was held last August 29, 2021, via Zoom. It was a successful and a wellattended event with about 96 participants.

The resource speakers from Eastern Communications spoke of the rise in cyber security attacks during the pandemic, its detection and prevention. They also discussed the different types of phishing attacks such as email spoofing, vishing, smishing, search engine phishing, spear phishing and other variety of phishing attacks and how not to fall prey into these cyber security attacks. Indeed, the webinar topic was very timely and relevant in this digital age.

ight for Life Project is another signature project of the Rotary Club of Bagong Silangan wherein the Club donated solar lights to more than 200 families of Sitio Bakal, Brgy Bagong Silangan, to households without electricity. Likewise the Club donated solar light to be installed at Dove St. to prevent stepping on snakes crossing their path or people falling down the stairs when they missed a step.

RC Constitution Hill Bagong Sandigan Pays Tribute to Teachers

W

hat is a world without teachers?

Many say that teachers helped build the world, for without them, no other professions would have been possible. With that, they certainly deserve a special day for their heroic stints. And so, on the World Teachers' Day, the Rotary Club of Constitution Hill- Bagong Sandigan (RCBS), Rotaract Club of Bagong Sandigan, and the Interact Club of Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr. High School, paid tribute to the teachers who are members of the Rotary Club, during the regular club

meeting of RCBS. The celebration was even made more special by the presence and kind remarks of Mr. Kristean Navales, President and Teacher Ruby, both of the Quezon City Public School Teachers Association (QCPSTA). Interact members serenaded the teachers through a song number. Though done virtually through Zoom, it was indeed a heartwarming tribute for all the teachers. Salute to all the teachers of the world! RC Greater Anonas Rotary Day of Service

C Greater Anonas heeded the call for “AYUDA & SERVICE” of our adopted/partner barangays’ residents in Proj 2, 3 & 4, quarantined at their respective homes. The members gathered the Barangay Captains of said barangays at Akle Park of Brgy 3B to distribute vitamins & food packages for the Covid victims in said barangays to be delivered personally by them at the gates of each Covid 19 victims. As well, disinfection & misting of Covid infected areas locked down by the barangay was done for the peace of mind of the residents in the areas, using Barangay Bagumbuhay fire truck with disinfection/misting equipment. Special thanks to LCP Jossie’s Barangay Bagumbuhay Captain, Celestino Martinez, Jr. for lending us the said fire truck.

RC Heroes Hills Free Acting Class 101

M

eryl Streep, a famous actress once said, “Empathy is at the heart of the actor’s art”. That is one of the skills and values imparted to our 27 students in our Acting 101 class, with our very own President Nominee Direk Carlo Maceda. The classes were divided into 5 sessions every Saturday, from July 17 to August 14, 2021 at 4 to 6 in the afternoon. The students took part in various acting situations where they learned the basics of acting and improvisation.

They were instructed on how to hone their acting skills as well as how to effectively deliver their lines with Actor Billy James Renacia, and Director Jeffrey 53

Santos and IPP Derlyn Maceda.

Sharpening their acting skills was not the only thing they learned, but improving their character and values in real life also, as Direk Carlo was able to impart morals and ethics to the students. At the end of the program, the students performed the Gollum/ Smeagol Monologue from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tokien to the Directors. In an interview with our LCP, one of the students thanked Director Carlo, IPP Derlyn, LCP Paolo, Ms. Anna Motol – our RCC Treasurer, and Rotary, as they learned a lot from these sessions.

RC Kamuning Central Multiple Club Projects

Pink Day (Breast Cancer Awareness)

maternal care project was launched as another virtual event which continued RC Kamuning Central’s mission in Maternal and Child care. As a joint project with Kamuning Central’s Sister clubs of Pagsanjan, Pila West, and Lopez, “Early Detection Saves Lives” was a webinar that brought to light the realities of breast cancer, admiring survivors, and embracing hope amidst the pandemic for more than 200 women attendees of this 3-year signature project. As a joint project with Pink Warriors, and supported by the Kasuso Foundation, this wonderful insight into the female experience was initiated

by Club Administrative Chair Lane Constancio, who is herself a breast cancer survivor.

21st Century Career Coaching

T

he Rotary Club of Kamuning Central kicked off the month of October with a vocational service project in the form of a career coaching webinar. Initiated

by Spouse Peachy Ayento, the Committee Chairman of Vocational Services, and in collaboration with LIFE COACH Philippines, the webinar prepared senior high students for the ever-changing environment of the 21st Century by inviting noteworthy keynote speakers including Life and Mental Health Coach Tin De Joya, Professor Socorro Perpetual Esguerra-Escarez, IT Professional Drazen San Juan, and even our very own Rotaractors of Kamuning Central; Life-Changing President Jaypee Barba, Community Service Chairperson Ranjielo Remedios, and Membership Chairperson Andrei Ayento to share their insight. This project was able to help over 300 Grade 11 and Grade 12 students from the Quirino Senior High School, and is only the first part of a coaching series which will continue in November and sometime the following year.

RCC Expo Exhibit 2021

tringing together meaningful change is no easy feat—and it’s sure to need more than just the hands of us Rotarians. That is why we celebrate the lengths of community togetherness as what was accomplished in the RCC Expo Exhibit 2021. By featuring our community partners that help club’s projects possible, we recognize the communal effort needed to truly change lives. With over 900 attendees, the Rotary Club of Kamuning Central proudly presented the two RCC teams of the club, organized by DCOS Aiza Remedios in 2011. First is the RCC Medical Team headed by Golden Wheel Awardee 2021 Dr. John Michael Lau. The RCC Dental team also featured their dental extraction project Senior Moment, in communities in Quezon City. Both teams were able to show how they have served as wind beneath the wings in our efforts in disease prevention and treatment under the seven causes of Rotary. The 18-year signature health project of the Rotary Club of Kamuning Central, Kalusugan: Yaman ng Bawat Mamamayan, was also featured as a continuing medical activity, which benefits thousands of indigent civilians all over, particularly in the Rotary Center area.

RC Kamuning Central Rotaract Club Projects Pa-Bakuna Ka Muna

W

ith the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the club sought out to release, in an effort for disease prevention, a series of informative publications centered towards raising vaccine awareness and advocacy. The content was divided into three posts with a total reach of over 800 on the club’s social media platforms. The project was able to spread information regarding the COVID-19 variants, vaccines, and the call for an efficient vaccine rollout.

KCFF: Halloween Nights

T

he Kamuning Central Film Festival served as the club’s first fundraising event for their medical mission in Botolan, Zambales next year. It was also able to serve as a three-night fellowship event for the members of the Rotaract Club of Kamuning Central, where the members were able to spend virtual time together while watching the year's most popular horror films. The club was able to invite more than 60 participants over the course of three nights, notwithstanding the Rotaractors themselves, and showcase three of the most popular horror films this year. At the end of the event, the club was able to raise appropriate funds to support their community service in the upcoming year, alongside succeeding in an effective virtual fellowship event. All funds raised from the event will proceed towards funding the donation drive for the club's adopted indigenous community, which seeks to be an additional WASH project alongside setting up of a library area for use of the Aeta community's youth.
