- May 2021 My dear Trailblazers, One more month to go !!The journey for 2021-22 seems to be very fast. It is just like yesterday that we took over as the leaders and started functioning. The Covid Pandemic loomed large on our term and it also affected us in many ways. Rotary became more Virtual. The World seemed to be easily accessible. You could attend meetings anywhere and you could invite anybody from anywhere. Despite all our limitations in meeting In Person, I am very happy to mention that our vigor in doing GOOD TO THE WORLD did not subside. Our Service Projects did not stop. In fact the number of projects, the number of man hours spent and the amount expended has crossed its numbers many more times. Thank you very much. I am indebted to each one of you for your marvelous support to me and my team. “ The Rotary that we have experienced in 2020-21 has been nimble, adaptable & creative. I am proud to say that Rotarians have accepted this challenge of the pandemic and converted it in to an Opportunity. “ As we get prepared to sign off by the next month end, let us do it in a Big Way. June will have our First Ever Digital District Conference : NAVINYA the conference of innovations on the 12th& 13th of June. I am confident that you shall have a different experience to enjoy then. Preparations are in full swing and the Conference Committee along with my Core team at the district are leaving no stone unturned in providing you with a Never Before Experience.

Come June and our efforts for the Foundation Collections need to be accelerated. I am fully aware about the hard times every person is passing through, due to this pandemic . However please appreciate that WE are ROTARIANS. We have always excelled under adversities. We are going to find solutions and are going to subscribe to my goal of achieving a US $ 1 million by 30/06.

Remember friends that the money you are donating today is going to be your investment for a strong District Designated Fund three years down the line. It shall consolidate our District's position in doing good and sizeable projects then.

May is celebrated as The New Generation Month.Rotary believes in developing the next generation of leaders. Our programs help younger leaders build leadership skills, expand education and learn the value of service.Our Rotaract &Interact programs are doing extremely good.I would like to thank DRR Sahil Gandhi & DIR Disha Deshpande for Rotaract & Interact movement in a befitting manner. Friends , you are aware that Rotaract, now is not our structured program. They are colleague members with us at Rotary International. We only need to monitor them and guide them develop leadership, Character and provide us with trained Rotarians in the days to come. Rotary has always planned well in advance and that's the reason that our organization has gone stronger during its 116 years of existence. We are in a transitional phase with the Rotaractors and I am sure that our Rotaractors shall respond well. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, we could not plan Youth Exchanges. But I am sure that my successors will plan out in a big way and ensure that this program shall be promoted in our district. Due to the pandemic we also could not organize more RYLAS & MUN. But no regrets. These shall be continued in the years to come.

During this month we have a new entrant in to our family. Let us welcome the members of Rotary Club of Kolhapur Royals : the All Ladies Club , second in Kolhapur to our family.My sincere requests to each one of you to kindly work with the same zeal and enthusiasm and be proud whilst signing out.

Exchange programmes will emerge stronger For years, Susanne and I hosted many Rotary Youth Exchange students in our home. This programme was an entry point to Rotary for me, and my heart is truly in it.

When Rotary's exchange programmes were suspended because of Covid-19 to keep students and families safe, we felt sorry, especially for the participants, because those years cannot be repeated.

Because of the many uncertainties of the pandemic, the Rotary Board has decided to suspend in-person exchanges through June 2022. As we look ahead with hope, we thank Youth Exchange officers, host families, and other volunteers for their contributions in years past.

We are hopeful that in-person exchanges will be back next year. And because of the many uncertainties, we're encouraging districts to offer virtual exchanges as a way of connecting students, families and volunteers.

For those who are not able to participate in Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary offers other opportunities. New Generations Service Exchange (NGSE) is a Rotary programme that deserves wider recognition. It is an excellent opportunity for young people ages 18 to 30 to participate in community service as individuals or in a group and to gain internship experience.

Simukai Matshalaga, a Rotaractor from Zimbabwe, stayed with us in Ratzeburg during her NGSE experience three years ago. When I applied for the New Generations Service Exchange programme, I did not realise that I was signing up for a life-changing experience. This programme gave me that opportunity and much more. It taught me about the importance of failing fast, learning quicker, and being myself.

Some of my greatest experiences happened at the dinner table. The warmth and kindness of every home I lived in still resonate with me today. It took me weeks to understand how a stranger could care for me as deeply as these members of the Rotary family did. I am inspired by the lessons of humility I learned from all the amazing people I met. I came to understand a new culture and realised that the only things that separate us as people are our experiences and, at times, our false assumptions.

Professionally, it gave me confidence in my own abilities as an engineer. Seeing how other organisations handled problems made me aware that the best person to solve the challenges in my country was me. Returning home from northern Germany, I declined a promotion, quit my job, and began building a family business – a decision that previously I would have never made, out of fear. I am indebted to the Rotary family. I am not sure whether the friends, mentors, and families I left behind knew that they changed my life permanently. I hope they now do.

New Generations Service Exchange changed Simukai's life. It can change yours, too. All Rotary members can experience something similar at any time: I encourage everyone to take a virtual journey this month and visit meetings of other clubs online. You will see how different Rotary is around the world as you meet great people and make new friends.

Let us build upon these connections forged online — and later, when the time is right, enjoy inperson exchanges with them through Rotary Friendship Exchange, another excellent programme for Rotary members of all ages. Our ability to meet in-person is limited now, but we know that Rotary Opens Opportunities, always. Now is the time to get ready, so that when the pandemic is behind us, Rotary's exchange programmes will come back stronger than before, serving a world that is yearning to reconnect.

IPDG CA Ravikiran Kulkarni completed his tenure as leader of RID 3170 at the turn of Rotary year when new Rotary year ushered in on 01St July 2019 and starts his new innings in Rotary career.

A Rotarian for more than last 25 years IPDG Rtn Ravikiran Kulkarni has contributed in many positions at his Club and Rotary District 3170 level and has been conferred the excellence in almost all assignments by the respective District Governors of 3170.

Assignments at Club level and at District level which brought laurels to Ravikiran Kulkarni include representing DG 1998-99 as GSR for formation of R C Tasgaon and representing Centennial District Governor in the capacity of GSE Team Leader in RID 2400 Sweden.

As a member of District Training Pool CA Ravikiran Kulkarni has contributed in various training events such as Intercity Meets , PETSETS, District Training Assembly for more than 20 years.

At Club level he has steered through the number of Matching and global Grants successfully – the most important being setting up Rotary Skin Bank at Sangli as a Prime Contact for a prestigious SKIN BANK Project as the Skin Bank is the 8th such project in India.

As District Governor of RID 3170 for Rotary year 2018-19 CA Ravikiran Kulkarni opened up a new chapter of making 3170 a PAPERLESS AND DIGITAL DISTRICT and he has been nicknamed as ' Digital DG ' out of respect by the Miracle Chaser Presidents of 2018-19.His noteable contribution to District as District Governor includes paperless District Administration , setting up 6 new Clubs through external extension and a well managed District Conference – PRERANA – which set some new trends in the History Book of RID 3170.

On professional front Ravikiran has successfully completed his career of 35 years of practice and has contributed as a founder secretary and thereafter as a Chairman of Sangli Branch of ICAI and has served the Western India Regional Council as a coopt member on various committees.

On domestic front his spouse Vishakha is a constant support to him. Vishakha is a having a basic degree in science and thereafter holds graduate a Diploma in Business management and Diploma in Taxation and actively helps Ravikiran Kulkarni in his profession. Vishakha is a Past President of Innerwheel Club of Sangli and after her stint as a President has concentrated back to the professional of her spouse as Ravikiran could devote more time to Rotary.

Ravikiran and Vishakha are blessed with son CA Amol and daughter CA Priya. CA Amol has found a soulmate in CA Neeraja and both of them have joined Ravikiran and Vishakha in Ravikiran's professional practice to take over the same .CA Priya is working as a consultant with a corporate.

PDG CA Ravikiran Kulkarni is a personality known for his ability to ` walk the talk ' for being straightforward and a result oriented personality working hard in his profession as well as in Rotary to achieve his dreams. Apart from Rotary Ravikiran and Vishakha contribute as Trustees in a few social and non profit organisations to discharge their social obligation.

Dr. Girish Masurkar a Medical graduatefrom M. R. Medical College Gulaburga and Post Graduate in Ophthalmology from J. N. Medical College, Belgaum. He is working as an ophthalmic surgeon, since 1989, and is Managing Director of Shri Banashankari Eye Hospital in Bagalkot.

As an Ophthalmologist he is serving the patients coming from Bagalkot, Bijpaur, Raichur, Gadag and Belgaum.

Shri Banashankari Eye Hospital is well equipped with Modern and state of art Machineries.

Dr. Girish Masurkar has conducted 70 free eye camps on his own and also in association with many social organizations like Rajasthan Yuvak Manal, Lions Club, Bharat Vikas Parishat, Ekal Vidyalaya, Akhil Karnataka Brahman Maha Sabha, and various Grama Panchayat and Banashankari Eye Hospital along with Rotary & Inner Wheel Clubs. ·He is thePresident of Ekal Vidyalaya Bagalkot & he is contributed for the development ofEkal Vidyalaya Bagalkot in Distract more than 100 Ekal schools are functioning ·He is the President of R.R. Computer Academy which runs ITI (ITC) (copa) 20student every yearare trained for last 20 years ·He was President of IMA did a Bio Medical Waste Facility which is only the second unit of this kind in whole of Karnataka. PRIP K. RAVINDRAN Rotary members are writing the future in the classic film Lawrence of Arabia, Peter O'Toole plays TE Lawrence, the British scholar, military officer and author who helped Arab tribes in their struggle for independence against the Ottoman Empire.

What is your Rotary Club doing to focus on Youth Service this month? May is Youth Service (formerly called New Generations) Month when Rotary Clubs, around the world focus on youth services, Rotaract, Interact, RYLA, Youth Exchange.

INTERACT Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club comprised of 14-18 year olds. Interact gives young people the opportunity to take part in fun, meaningful service projects. Along the way, Interactors develop their leadership skills and initiative while meeting new friends. Members exchange ideas, opinions and plans with other talented, energetic people, in an atmosphere free from negative pressures and distraction. Interact strives to promote student leadership, local volunteer service, and to make members aware of the many global and world issues that effect people everyday.

Ultimately, students can: Become acquainted with a premiere service organization (Rotary International) and proven leaders from communities throughout Rotary; Learn how to manage and head community service projects; Learn about other Rotary club programs including Rotaract (service club for young adults), Earlyact (a service club for primary school students), youth exchange (a chance to live and study abroad ) and RYLA(Rotary Youth Leadership Awards).

The word Interact stands for "international action" and today there are more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries.

ROTARACT Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 18-30. Recently Rotary International has removed upper age limit for Rotaractors and allowed them dual membership i.emembership of Rotary also. Rotaract clubs are usually community or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club, making them true “partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family.

Lawrence leads a group of Bedouin warriors through the desert for a surprise attack on the Ottoman port of Aqaba. As they reach the end of the desert, they discover that a soldier, Gasim, has fallen off his camel during the night. But it is morning, and the tribesmen led by Sherif Ali, played in the movie by Omar Sharif, advise Lawrence that going back to find him would be futile, that Gasim would already be dead given the sandstorms and the scorching heat. "Gasim's time has come; it is written," one of the soldiers tells Lawrence.

But Lawrence does go back and finds Gasim near death, staggering in the dunes. When they return to camp, Ali offers Lawrence water.

Before taking a drink, Lawrence looks at him and says: "Nothing is written."

This unforgettable scene means more than just a quotable movie line; it represents a way of looking at the world. It is a challenge to fatalism — that we must accept a certain outcome because of the way it has always been. No, Lawrence says, history is not written, yet.

So it is with The Rotary Foundation. We have not yet emerged from the sandstorm of the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic fallout from it.

We are still occupied by work to raise awareness, deliver critical personal protective equipment, and provide support for frontline workers.

We do not know the day when, standing beside our polio eradication partners, we will announce that for the second time in history, a disease has been eradicated. We do know that, because we have worked steadfastly for years, the end of that story will be written soon.

And thanks to a $15.5 million contribution from the Otto & Fran Walter Foundation, we are also adding a new chapter in the story of our expansion of the Rotary Peace Centers: Plans are underway to launch a new peace certificate centre in the Middle East or North Africa.

Young adults augment their knowledge and skill and also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

Rotaractors also often spearhead the formation of Interact clubs and participate in RYLA.

Rotary is engaged in so many noble efforts; it is an ongoing story that inspires me even more than Lawrence of Arabia. We do not yet know the name of the baby whose life will be saved because of a maternal and child grant from Rotary, or the name of the girl who will learn to read with our support. When will those grants start, and will your district — or you — be directly involved?

Rotaract is one of the fastest-growing programs of Rotary in 177 Countries.

Nothing is written. We write it.

Youth exchange gives the participant the opportunity to improve their language skills and school and family experiences will teach them the culture of their host country. They also act as ambassadors for their home country. Each year the Rotary Districts that are part of CSRYE send approximately 300 young people to other countries and accept 300 young people from other countries in return.

Accepting a youth exchange student into your club, community and household can be a very rewarding experience. It's an opportunity for you, your family and your fellow Rotarians to learn about a different culture and also help a young person understand your culture. The goal of Rotary Youth Exchange is to promote the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace at the person to person level.

RYLA Each year thousands of young people take part in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) programs worldwide. Young people are chosen for their leadership potential to attend a seminar, camp or workshop to discuss leadership skills and to learn those skills through practice. RYLA aims to: Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth; Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders; Encourage leadership of youth by youth; and Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.

May 2021 - Youth Service Month Dear Trailblazer Presidents & Secretaries, Warm Greetings from NAVINYA-62nd Rotary District Conference Committee 20-21, Subject : CONFERENCE ON VIRTUAL PLATFORM ON 12TH & 13TH JUNE 2021 We are sure; you all are enjoying good health and safety at home with your family. Due to continued upsurge of CORONA virus and lot of restrictions enforced by the state Government and local authorities it seems that we will not be able to host our most awaited Mega Rotary family get-together –NAVINYA-62nd Rotary District Conference IN PERSON at pre-decided date 15th, 16th & 17th May, 2021 at Hotel Sayaji, Kolhapur.

It is rightfully said that this COVID-19 Pandemic taught us to fight back and bring brighter change in our thinking & presentations. It has also opened up a lot of new opportunities too. Now, we decided to use the Digital platform further and remain connected with our own Rotarians and families for a cause.

GOOD NEWS: Due to the shorter period left at our disposal and would like to offer all together different & enriching experiences to you all. We at the Conference organizing committee decided to reschedule our Conference. Now, finally our Conference will be held on 12th & 13th June 2021 on Victual Platform. Please note that the Event organizing agency is already finalized. We are working out best modalities to have greater enjoyment, fun and enriching experience too. Rest assured that we will put in our best efforts, innovative ideas and showcase our faith in digital technology. It will be never before Conference , to be cherished for years to come. # Hotel Accommodation; We know , most of the Rotarians and their families have booked their Hotel accommodations considering our previous scheduled date 15th to 17th May 2021. Friends, I know in this month once again we have many restrictions due to Covid Pandemic.

Rotary Friendship, fellowship & other different Activities are again in trouble due to these restrictions. Now you have only one month left. you must be in Fast flow of Activities. Many Clubs are doing very good Projects within the hurdles of Pandemic situation. Many Clubs now have back to normal routine work project, Different competitions, distribution for needy, Different Rallies, felicitations for extra ordinary work etc. in last month. This work is remarkable ,as well as improved Rotary's Public image too.

This is my personal request to all that kindly upload your reports & photos to Rotary site, or app. only.

With the Leadership of our dynamic Dist. Governor Rtn. Sangram Patil this is my personal request to you all that instead of just regular activity think some creative or HATAKE activities.
