Dear Readers
Next week, on August 7th at the Crescent Beach Club, over 275 women will come together for Richner Communications' inaugural 2023 Women's Executive (WE) Summit. We are excited for the amazing lineup of speakers, workshops and more!
For more than 60 years, Richner Communications ā publisher of the Long Island Herald ā has supported building community and womenās initiatives through reporting and storytelling. And, in keeping with our founders ā both my mother and father ā our company's current executive team comprises more than 60% women.
The Herald is proud to be a platform where diverse voices are heard and stories told. We are also proud to partner with Bank of America on the 2023 WE Summit, and we thank Bank of America for its dedication to investing in and supporting women and female-led companies.
On the pages of this WE Summit special section you will see an impressive array of women executives, thought leaders, innovators and barrier-breakers that are coming together to chart the future course for women in the workplace.
I look forward to seeing you on August 7th at the Crescent Beach Club for an inspiring day of idea exchange and learning.
Sincerely,
Stuart Richner
CEO, Richner Communications Publisher, Long Island Herald

Dear Readers
This special section marks the inaugural Womenās Executive (WE) Summit presented by Bank of America and the beginning of what we hope is a movement to āreimagineā the future of women in the workforce. There are more female fortune 500 CEOs than ever before (just over 10%) and two-thirds of women in America today are either the sole breadwinner or co-breadwinners in their families. However, while there has been success over the past few decades for women's advancements in the workplace, women are still dramatically underrepresented in leadership and full equality has yet to be realized.
The goal of WE Summit is to bring top female executives, thought leaders, innovators and barrier-breakers together for conversations around this yearās theme: The Future is Now. Together, we can harness the power of this pivotal moment to shape a new path forward and realize a better future for women in the workplace.
We are proud to partner with Bank of America, a market leader, that is committed to investing in and supporting women. From supporting teammatesā wellbeing and professional growth, Bank of America recognizes women are critical for driving the economy.
Join us for this call to action on August 7th at the Crescent Beach Club to explore, discuss and discover new paths on a variety of topics including workforce and skill development, ageism and cultural barriers, mentorship, mental health and self-care.
Sincerely,
Amy Amato Executive Director, Corporate Relations & Events Long Island Herald + RichnerLIVE
Dear Readers
We are excited to partner with the LI Herald as presenting sponsor of the inaugural Herald Womenās Executive Summit, convening women leaders from across Long Island to foster connections and address the challenges faced by women in the workplace.
At Bank of America, we know that when women thrive, whole families, whole communities and whole economies thrive. Thatās why we are committed to investing in women. Our ongoing work to support women includes recruiting and developing strong women talent, making the ļ¬nancial lives of our women clients and customers better, and advancing the economic empowerment of women in communities around the world through access to training, mentorship, capital and philanthropic support.
Weāve made progress and know that collectively we share the responsibility to continue to push forward. The summit will surely be a beacon for tangible action.
Sincerely,

AIR CHARTER SERVICE: Soaring Above Expectations
What began in 1990 in the basement of Chris and Tina Leach's house in Kingston-upon-Thames, UK, with the initial plan to purely pay the bills, soon changed to more ambitious plans. Chris believed there was space in the market for another aircraft charter company, but one that focused solely on exceptional service and building long lasting relationships with its customers. He believed that if you went that extra mile for them then they would always come back and with that blueprint he would build a business, thus Air Charter Service (ACS) was born.
Air Charter Service is now the worldās leading aircraft charter broker ā o ering multiple services on a truly global scale. With 600 plus employees across 30 o ces spanning the globe, the company arranges more than 28,000 charter ļ¬ights every year, with revenues of over a billion dollars.
āWe still hold Chris Leachās initial approach dear [to us],ā Rachel Thayer, Marketing Specialist at ACS
Americas said. āAnd see ourselves as one big family, whilst making sure that we go the extra mile for our customers, delivering service beyond expectationsā
While ACS does not own any of the planes they utilize, they have access to all types of aircraft and private terminals. Last year two of their New York o ces ā one in Uniondale and one in Manhattan āarranged 1,750 passenger charter ļ¬ights between them; and ACS has hopes of ļ¬ying even higher with both national and global expansion in the coming future.
āWe are looking to continue our expansion plans, both in the US and across the world ā we have opened two new o ces in the past two months, with more already planned,ā She said. āAircraft charters across all our divisions are at record levels at the moment and we feel that demand will only grow, with charter numbers naturally growing as we expand.ā
ACS is not only growing as a
company on the outside, but also within, and that includes breaking the bounds women in the workforce experience. āWe feel that there needs to be equal growth in the workforce, empowering more women, and weāre ahead of the curve with females in leadership roles, as our co-founder is Tina Leach.ā
The company is constantly driving change, actively employing females in typically male-dominated positions ā including some of ACSā senior directors in the US and across the world are female.
āIn their Americas o ces, the head of their Chicago o ce; the head of Brazil o ce; as well as our US HR Director, Executive Vice President of Accounts, and Legal Director are all women. We have a Diversity Committee to ensure all equal opportunity is applied across the entire company. ā
ACSā primary services are private jet charters, group charter and cargo aircraft charter. They also o er a full travel & concierge service and time
critical services, including on board couriers and trucking.
Alongside their Diversity Committee, there is also a CESR and a Charity committee, which arrange countless fundraising events around the globe, including wing-walking, skydiving, obstacle courses, beach cleans and tree planting.

Always and Forever Roses: Preserving ļ¬owers, memories and smiles
When Jennifer Paretta, owner of Always and Forever Rose Floral Arrangements, ļ¬rst saw a preserved rose, she instantly fell in love, thinking it could be an extraordinary gift: simple, yet meaningful. However when she recommended her son buy one for his girlfriend, Jennifer was shocked at the price and felt a desire to make this simple treasure a ordable for more people to enjoy.
From that a business emerged. Jennifer knew it would be challenging, but she was more than ready to run with her idea and make it a success.
āDoing everything on my own and bringing my business to where it is today within only a year has been hard,ā the mother of two said. āI did the marketing, bookkeeping, product creation, order placement ā you name it! But thereās nothing I canāt do.ā
Her style is in the simple, organic realm: customers can choose between two collections: āFarmhouseā and āDesignerā but
she also takes custom requests for bridal showers, weddings, gift boxes, arrangements and preservations. Bespoken arrangements are also one of her unique services, which allows you to preserve treasured heirlooms or important events.
Handmade with care, using the ļ¬nest and freshest ļ¬orals ā she lets her creative mind and busy hands do the talking.
āKeeping going is the most important thing to me,ā she said, explaining how she manages her multiple sclerosis (MS) while growing her business. āWorking out, keeping busy. You will try and fail a number of times, but the key is to keep going ā in every aspect of the word.ā
Busy as a bee! Not only is Jennifer the owner of her thriving forever rose company, she is also a scientist who additionally reļ¬nished doors and tutors organic chemistry on the side. You donāt have to settle on one hobby, putting yourself in a box, you
can evolve and master a number of skills.
āAnyone can do anything if you put your mind to it and keep getting better with time and the learning process,ā Jennifer said. āAnd if youāre looking for a reason to start your own business ā here it is! ā JUST DO IT! If you donāt try, you will fail.ā
Taking risks may seem frightening, but thatās only because you may not know the outcome. You might end up changing not only your life, but the lives of others. Jennifer said that she wasnāt always aware how her creations could have an impact on someone.
Despite her own initial enthusiastic reaction to seeing a forever rose, which made her gleam with awe, after a while itās possible to lose sight of why you started your business in the ļ¬rst place when in the throes of the day-to-day tasks. āI was out to dinner one night and someone said that they received one of my gifts and it makes her smile every day,ā she said. āI was
reminded of why I am doing this. I try to make someone smile at least once daily. I think thatās something everyone should try to do.ā

Q&A with Aimee Kestenberg Elan
How did you start your company?
The company started with a product. A great backpack named the Tamitha that I designed while at Parsons The New School for Design out of a need to ļ¬nd a backpack that was functional, fashionable and a ordable. It was the ļ¬rst bag sold and loved by all, it quickly became a favorite on the New York fashion scene. From there, I built the ļ¬rst Aimee Kestenberg Collection that was presented at market and picked up immediately by buyers across the country. As the brand grew, my partner and I realized that we had a bigger vision and decided to focus on building a larger company that nurtured creative talent and harnessed expertise in building authentic accessory brands in areas that ļ¬lled white space in the market. Today, our portfolio includes Aimee Kestenberg, American Leather Co. and House of Want. www.a ordableluxurygroup.com
What is your daily mantra?
Itās easy to get caught up in a busy start to the dayā¦the second we open our eyes, we so often either pick up our phones or jump right into the many demands of the day. As a busy working mother of three, itās for this reason that I like to take 9 minutes everyday before I do anything else to breathe, meditate and manifest how I want my day to go. I divide that 9 minutes into three stages, 3 minutes of meditative breathing work (Pranayama), this stabilizes my nervous system⦠I then move on to 3 minutes of meditation⦠I practice gratefulness (reminding myself how grateful I am yo wake up, all the simple blessings in my life like health and family and food, key disciplines Iād like to uphold such as operating with compassion and lastly I do a 3 minute morning stretch, mild vinyasa to wake up my body and get blood ļ¬owing before I start the day. 9 minutes may not seem like much, but this simple step ļ¬rst thing in the morning will change your life.
What has been your greatest accomplishment or most memorable moment since starting your business?
Iād have to say the inner-conļ¬dence that came with overcoming signiļ¬cant hurdles or challenges along the way. My greatest accomplishment was ļ¬nding strength to keep going in some of the darkest times.
The most memorable moment to date was being presented the 2019 NPD Growth Driver Award by the esteemed Accessories Council at the Design Excellence Awards, held at the world famous Plaza Hotel in New York City, a landmark Iāve loved since I was a young girl.
What has been your hardest obstacle and how did you overcome it?
Iād have to say learning how to balance life between three young children and a fast growing company all while trying to take care of myself. The demands of it all can be intense. Learning how to exercise healthy boundaries in all areas of my life required a lot of growth work and discipline. Itās a journey not a destination.
What advice do you have for women or young girls in general or about starting their own company?
It starts with you. Learning to love yourself and prioritize yourself unapologetically will give you the foundation you need to succeed. I always encourage people to start o on someone elseās dime, get a job in the areas in which you want to learn before starting your own business. Absorb every little bit of information and immerse yourself in as many experiences that you can. When I started my company, I had a basic foundation of how to do it because I had learnt so much by watching how things were done at the companies I worked for, also observing how they could have been done better, how I wanted to be treated di erently⦠All of these experiences made me a stronger businesswoman and better manager. Iām always happy to answer questions @aimeekestenberg across all social media outlets.
