A letter from the PUBLISHER

The past two years were tough for East Meadow, but its always-resourceful people came through once again, just as we did after Hurricane Sandy's wake in 2012. Neighbors helping neighbors. That’s what East Meadow is all about. And what it continues to be. We looked out for each other all through the Covid-19 crisis. Everyone stepped up during this challenging time: grocery stores and other necessary retailers, community organizations, civic leaders, Stuart Richner local offi cials, etc. And we can never thank enough our health care workers for their selfl ess dedication. Now we understand just how resilient we, as a community, are. The pandemic tested all of us beyond our limits. East Meadow, however, remains strong. It is a hamlet full of fi ghters. And as the pandemic shifts to endemic stage and we fully resume our lives, we are all reinvigorated and reenergized. Throughout the crisis, the East Meadow Herald remained steadfast in informing everyone of the impact of the pandemic, and also all of the great things individuals, stores, police, fi refi ghters, schools and community leaders were doing to keep moving forward. Herald reporters were at meetings, and talking to you and your neighbors, to paint a portrait of a hamlet that may have struggled at times, but one that also is winning. Richner Communications, which owns the Herald, was proud to do its part, too. Richner off ered thousands of businesses marketing grants so that the merchants — the lifeblood of the community — could carry on. Now that we have emerged from the pandemic with vaccines and medical advances in our arsenal, we are ready to charge ahead with optimism and renewed vigor. In this edition of our annual Living In East Meadow, we look at all that is wonderful about this lively village. A special publication of your hometown newspaper, it’s published in cooperation with the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce. We are honored to mark another year as the chamber's offi cial publication. We hope you fi nd this issue useful and informative, and that you enjoy reading the East Meadow Herald 52 weeks a year. Be well and be safe. Stuart Richner Publisher
