T
he Baldwin Union Free School District has roughly 5,500 students in grades kindergarten to 12, from almost all areas of Baldwin as well as some parts of Freeport, Rockville Centre and South Hempstead. In the upcoming school year, the district has returned to in-person education with a universal mask mandate and CDC distancing protocols as the Delta variant has emerged and Covid cases have been spiking in Baldwin and Long Island overall. Despite the pandemic, Baldwin High School was ranked in top 25 percent in the state and top 21 percent in the nation by U.S. News & World report--jumping 60 places in the state rankings from the previous year. The school board consists of five elected members who serve threeyear terms without pay and act as the community’s representatives to the district. Board elections and budget votes are held each May. Additionally, the board is responsible for the district’s annual operating budget. The board meets on the first Wednesday of each month.
