Bringing more light into the world There was no better way to wrap up the festival of lights than by celebrating the end of Hanukkah at the Merrick Jewish Centre. Joined by Congregation Beth Ohr of Bellmore and Temple Beth Am of Merrick and Bellmore, the Jewish community gathered for a community menorah lighting — and so much more. A surprise appearance was made by Quackerjack, the Long Island Ducks mascot, and children eagerly participated in a gelt drop. Rabbi Josh Dorsch went up onto a fire truck, and tossed the gold and silver chocolate coins to children below. Dorsch emphasized the importance of bringing more light into the world. Above, congregation presidents lit 135 candles, representing the hostages still in captivity in Gaza. Right, Daniela Bachrach, 7, finds a lucky silver coin. Stories, more photos, Page 3.
