Recognizing the potential for the development of geothermal energy, the GoSVG is advancing plans for the development of a geothermal power plant in the vicinity of La Soufriere volcano in the north of St Vincent. This project is expected to transform the energy situation in SVG and is in line with national climate, energy and economic objectives. It will move the country from a dependency on high-priced diesel fuel to a sustainable energy path based on an indigenous, stable and affordable resource.
The Project will be located on the south-eastern slopes of La Soufriere volcano, some 4 km inland on the eastern side St. Vincent in the Orange Hill region. The technical and economic analysis that has been undertaken indicates that the Project would help achieve the goals of price stability and economic sustainability for SVG.
