ichmond now has the unenviable tag of being the current, homicide capital of Metro Vancouver for 2017, after a man’s body was found inside the premises of a trucking firm on Monday morning. The grim discovery was made just before 6:30 a.m. on Viking Way near Cambie Road, making it the second in as many weeks in the city and the region this year. A man has been arrested in connection with the homicide and is in police custody. On Monday morning, police had taped off the area around haulage firm and truck driving school Sosida Services and Solink Transportation Inc. at 3600 Viking Way. And by the afternoon, the Integrated Ho-
micide Investigation Team (IHIT) released a statement saying that, after receiving a report of a homicide, police attended the area and “a male was located inside a business and appeared to have succumbed to injuries consistent with homicide. “Shortly after the homicide occurred, a male suspect was identified and apprehended by police. The male suspect remains in custody, and IHIT is liaising with Crown Counsel to determine if he will face any homicide-related charges.” The investigation, according to IHIT, is still “in its infancy, but police believe that the homicide was not a random event.” The victim’s identity, said police, will not be released as it “does not currently further the police investigation.” “It remains early in the investigation, but it
appears that the homicide occurred between parties known to each other, and was not a random act,” said IHIT’s spokesperson Cpl. Meghan Foster. The scene of the homicide is only a block or so away from Cambie secondary. Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877551-IHIT (4448), or by email at IHITinfo@ RCMP-grc.gc.ca. Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). On Jan. 10, Richmond produced Metro Vancouver’s first homicide of 2017 after a man was found shot dead in his car. Richmond RCMP was called to the area of Ash Street and Granville Avenue shortly before 9:30 p.m. after reports of gunshots were made by residents.
