All-Richmond team wins bronze at Games T

hree months of hard work culminated with the Richmond Zone 5 team winning bronze in the boys basketball competition at the B.C. Summer Games in Abbotsford. This past spring, the boys were fortunate to be coached by Joey Dhillon, Bill Hannah, Brian Meier and Jason Lewis. They trained three times per week since April, and competed in tournaments in Langley, SFU, and Lynden, Washington. They also attended a team camp at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA in mid-July. In Abbotsford, the boys reached the semi-finals before falling to the eventual gold medalist in an all Vancouver-Coastal zone match-up. Richmond then bounced back Sunday morning to defeat Vancouver Island by four points and secure a spot on the podium. The future looks bright for all these players. The roster included: Nicholas Berda, Arjun Pawar, Jonathan Downton, Tre Rhodes, Apaar Sahota, Oscar Lam, Daniel Oglive, Keith Wong, Bill Liu and Jackie Nguyen.

vincing 8-1 victory over Fraser River. Their only two losses in the tournament came against the eventual gold and silver medalists A combination of home run hits, diving catches, great pitching, solid back catching and all around good spirit contributed to the success of the team. The weekend brought many memories from opening ceremonies right through to the close that this team will not soon forget. Both Yam and Porter made big contributions to the team’s success with solid defensive play in right field and at shortstop respectively, and timely hitting when needed.
