DOCTORS of the DESERT
Artistry & Compassion
Dr. Shepherd Green Pryor V, MD, FACS of Valley Facial Plastic Surgery TO SOME, Dr. Shepherd Green Pryor V is known as The Nose Whisperer – and it’s no wonder why. As the founder of Valley Facial Plastic Surgery, he’s double board-certified in head/neck surgery and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and he takes great pride in helping his patients achieve lasting, life-changing results. “It’s an incredibly rewarding opportunity to return someone back to their original appearance after a skin cancer operation, a facial trauma, a nasal fracture, or just the standard problems we all experience with facial aging,” says Pryor, who completed a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of California Davis Medical Center, honing his skills in cosmetic surgery and helping correct major facial defects, before opening his artistic-based Scottsdale practice. Most commonly, patients visit Pryor for nasal injuries including nasal fractures as well as septal deviations and breathing-related problems, but, naturally, many of his patients are also interested in altering the appearance of the nose. Pryor recognizes the desire patients have to look and feel their best, especially in today’s youth- and beauty-focused culture, and he is dedicated to providing an individualized approach to restoring and enhancing patients’ natural beauty. In fact, he says 75 percent of patients will also undergo primary or revision rhinoplasty. With surgery, of course, many patients feel nervous. Though they can rest assured they’re in good hands. Pryor and his assistant – Jocelynn Fintak, his skin care expert, surgery-scheduling extraordinaire, and right-hand gal – take a compassionate approach to these life-altering decisions. “Surgery is scary, but at some point, it’s important to hand off that anxiety to me,” Pryor says. “Patients know upon meeting any qualified and skilled surgeon if things will go right. I truly believe in patients relying on their ‘gut feeling.’ It’s almost always right.” This philosophy of “excellent and empathetic care” is evident – Pryor seeks to build relationships with his patients so that they gain not only a physician and surgeon, but also a friend and
confidant who always has their best interest at heart. “I love being able to help people, and the artistry of being able to work with my hands,” he says. “One of the most rewarding comments a patient can make is when they inform me they want to refer a family member. It’s the biggest compliment one can give for a job well done.” Throughout his career, Pryor has used his expertise to give back and be an innovator in his field. He’s traveled to China to help children with facial deformities, and he remains committed in his humanitarian efforts to charitable causes locally – and in pioneering developments in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Even with all of this, Pryor is an avid trail runner and a family man at heart – and he’s even planning his greatest adventure yet, climbing Africa’s Kilimanjaro. “I have crazy fun with my wife and three kids, who are six, four and two, and trail running up the side of mountains.” TO LEARN MORE ABOUT VALLEY FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY, CALL 480.614.0499 OR VISIT WWW.VALLEYFACIALPLASTICSURGERY.COM.
