ay connotes many things. The start of increasingly hot temperatures. Cinco de Mayo festivities. Memorial Day gatherings. And, of course, a day totally focused on Mom. In fact, Mom – or, rather, moms – is where we put a lot of our focus in this issue. Our feature spotlights seven moms who are making a difference right here in the Valley through causes they are each fiercely passionate about. Read about these amazing women, starting on page 55. Keeping moms in mind, we’ve rounded up places to wine and dine the woman of the month (page 78), as well as spa treatments to help her relax (page 80). And what would a celebration be without a toast? There’s a beautiful way to give her the toast she so deserves on page 91. Speaking of toasting, Cinco de Mayo gives us good reason to spice things up with tequila-inspired cocktails (page 122) and a tantalizingly swirled margarita (page 88), as well as festive fare like ceviche (page 124) and short rib tacos (page 123). We also talked with two experts in their fields: Katie Schnurr, aka The Tequila Goddess, (page 36) and Modern Margarita’s chef, Judd Cummings (page 86). Beyond these culinary accounts, we venture into all things community-focused with our cover story on Tyler Butler (page 48). As GoDaddy’s director of corporate social responsibility and a community volunteer multiple times over, Butler has made it her life’s work to bring positive change everywhere she goes. Perhaps this month, as temperatures inevitably climb, you may find yourself in need of a pick-me-up (we won’t judge if it’s tequila-inspired!). But truly, the stories of the kind-hearted people in our community dedicated to making a difference always does serve as a pick-me-up in my eyes. I hope it does the same for you. And to all the moms out there, thank you for all you do!
