he year may be coming to a close, but the Scottsdale restaurant scene shows no sign of slowing down. In just the last few weeks and months, a slew of new places to nosh and nibble have opened, and we’ve got the scoop for you here.
Zen Culinary
Zen Culinary’s bold bill of fare includes everything from handcrafted sushi and sashimi to thick-cut wood-grilled steaks and chops, all prepared with a vibrant blend of Asian-American ingredients and cooking techniques. Beverage Director Michael Liberatore brings up the libation front with irresistible craft cocktail concoctions featuring Asian ingredients and liquors. www.zenculinary.com.
At Sizzle, guests get the chance to play chef. Choose from a selection of high-quality local meats, and then cook it up on a traditional Korean grill right at your table. When Uncorked Wine Bar at the North Scottsdale Promenade closed a few years ago, the local community was collectively devastated. But today, they are rejoicing as the popular wine-tasting venue has reopened in a bigger location just north of its previous spot. Old Town Scottsdale has a new neighborhood hotspot from the folks behind Farm & Craft, El Hefe and Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row. Fast-casual by day and full-service by night, Hand Cut specializes in grass-fed and finished burgers, steaks and chops; housemade ice cream; and a generous selection of wine, cocktails and craft beer. www.handcutchophouse.com.
The Grand Blue
This eatery comes from the same trio that opened the first Pita Jungle restaurant in Tempe more than 20 years ago. Their concept is an ambitious one – high-end seafood at an affordable price. Lovers of local craft beer, rejoice! There is a new nanobrewery on the block. The venue, which opened in mid-November, has eight original beers, including various ales, IPA and stout. Bodega 13, an international tapas kitchen, opened its first location last November in Carefree and now has opened a second venue in North Scottsdale. With Spanish influences, the menu is mostly protein-based and boasts ample selections for vegetarians, vegans and those with gluten-free diets.
