he wait is over. Mountain Shadows – the $100 million boutique resort, golf course and luxury condominium project at the base of Camelback Mountain that has been two years in the making – has opened its doors. While the property retains the Mountain Shadows name in homage to the original resort and golf course first founded on the land in 1959 – which even predates the incorporation of Paradise Valley itself – the sleek new space was masterfully conceived for today’s guests and built from the ground up, with no expense spared. The resort features 183 guest rooms as well as a presidential suite with private views of the mountain. Design highlights include floorto-ceiling windows and thoughtful use of patios and terraces to take advantage of the views, especially at sunset. A busy executive’s dream, this Forrest Richardson-designed “short course” boasts 18 par-three holes, which allow for quick play. Among one of only a handful of short courses designed for a high-end resort nationwide, the greens are both approachable for a novice while still posing a challenge to more seasoned golfers. It also includes an innovative par-two bonus hole dubbed “The Forrest Wager” (in honor of the course designer), where golfers can practice putting and settle any bets that may remain from the course.

There are two main gathering places on property – Rusty’s and Hearth ’61. Rusty’s is the patio and lounge bar with lighter fare, perfect for a post-golf cocktail or happy hour. Hearth ’61 is the more formal restaurant under the direction of Chef Charles Wiley – most recently of Hotel Valley Ho – and focuses on ingredientdriven American cuisine. There is also an on-site boutique, PV Mercantile, that sells artisanal food and wine (many locally made) as well as high-end fashions.
Resort Condominiums Mountain Shadows offers a total of 42 furnished, on-property condos and lofts, which are housed in their own three-story luxury wing and allow full property advantages.
