Fitting Fitness in Portion Size may not Matter Pop quiz: Which is better – eating less or eating healthier? Answer: eating healthier. In a recent study, researchers measured how much participants ate when given meals that varied in portion size. Despite about onethird of participants having been trained in different strategies to manage food portions during a previous yearlong weight loss trial, all participants ate more as portion sizes grew. Although the trained participants ate the same amount as the others, they tended to choose healthier foods and ended up consuming fewer calories overall. By eating healthier foods, despite the larger sizes, participants still lost weight.

When it comes to fitness, even a little is better than none. A new study suggests that replacing time spent sitting with light-intensity physical activity may benefit health more than previously thought. New research shows that just a little exercise each day can bring significant benefits. This study shows how replacing just half an hour of sitting each day with housework, walking, standing, or similar lowintensity activity is linked to a 24 percent reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease. So get up, and see how the benefits roll in. Source: www.medicalnewstoday.com.

Bring on the Fiber It might not be a trending topic for weight loss, but fiber could be the missing key. A study found the following results: People who simply ate more fiber lost almost as much weight as others who made complicated changes to their diets. In addition to weight loss and heart health, researchers say fiber may reduce levels of chronic inflammation. Whether you get your daily fiber through beans, legumes or supplements, fiber may help you drop those last few pounds a little easier. Source: www.cnn.com.

Reverse Psychology According to a new study, the key to a successful diet isn’t sugarcoating it … it’s telling everyone the truth: dieting is hard. Delivering the message to people that weight loss is extremely challenging motivated people to shed more weight in one new study. However, the strategy did not compel participants to achieve the goal for which it was originally designed: to modify or replace many of the unhealthy foods in their homes. So, it will still take some work on each individuals part … but it gets you closer.
