The Arthritis Foundation Exercise program is a gentle exercise program designed to reduce pain and stiffness, improve mobility, and increase muscle strength. Cornhole is a fun game that has become very popular at tailgate parties and cookouts. The objective is to toss bean bags into a hole on a 2’x4’ board. Want to improve your tennis skills while playing with other adults who want to upgrade their abilities and have fun doing it? Please join us for our action packed clinic geared toward adults 18 and older that currently play adult league level 2.54.0 NTRP. Players will get drilled on doubles strategies such as lobs, poaching, and court positioning.

E-Sports Spring League

Come join us for our new experience with multiplayer online video gaming league. There will be team and individual league play opportunities. Players will be required to have their own gaming system, access to gaming servers along with at home internet. Players are required to play at home and must have access to the GGleagues gaming connection server. Please visit website for list of games for the spring season. Men’s 40+ Spring Basketball League

Join our Men’s Adult Basketball league and compete amongst the best talent in the area! This is a fun and competitive men’s basketball league. Games will be played on Tuesday evenings at north Springs Park. The league will consist of six regular season games and a single elimination playoff tournament.

Garden Party

How does your Garden Grow? Special guest Jackie Jordan, Richland County Master Gardener Coordinator, Horticulture Extension Agent, and panelist on SCETV’s Making It Grow will share her extensive knowledge of all things green with you at this very special gardening event. This hands on workshop will explore micro greens, attracting insects that are beneficial to gardening, and choosing non-toxic pesticides. Each guest will plant a tray of micro greens to take home. Register by March 11, 2022. Because event materials are personalized, registration is non-transferable. No day-of event registration; no unregistered patrons will be admitted.

The parade will begin at 11:00 AM near the Fire Department Station at 122 Gadsden Community Center Road, and it will travel 1.1 miles ending in Gadsden Park Community Center, kicking off our 7th Annual Farm Festival. The Farm Festival will be an amazing day with us to explore and learn about farming through organic agriculture and gardening in a new way.

Guardian Angel Dance

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the annual event to get decked out and have a date with your child(ren) is almost here! The first annual Guardian Angel Dance, hosted by Killian Park will be held from 6:30-9:30 PM, Friday, February 11, at 1424 Marthan Street. The event will feature refreshments and dessert, games and activities, dance contests, prizes, and a self-take photo booth. Everyone will enjoy a lovely evening of dancing.

Tennis Center project Press Day as Construction Begins

Richland County Recreation Commission announced the start of the renovation project for Richland County Tennis Center at Parklane with a Press Conference at the Tennis Center on Tuesday, December 14.

Richland County Council approved $300,000 for the renovations to the facility, which will be dedicated to Dr. Jerry Odom and Mrs. Shirley Mills, who were instrumental in advocating for the project with local representatives.

A number of local representatives were present for the press conference, including county council members, state representatives, members of USTA, RCRC staff, and representatives from local school districts.

During the press conference, members of the local media had an opportunity to hear from RCRC Board Chair, Donzetta Lindsay, Executive Director, Lakita Watson, and Dr. Odom about the vision for the facility and future tennis projects in Richland County.

Celebrating with Santa Holiday Events Across the County

The holiday season brings so many opportunities for the community to connect and enjoy fun activities and opportunities!

Santa celebrated at several events across the area. He started with Breakfast with Santa at Caughman Road Park. Families enjoyed breakfast and treats, crafts and activities, a Christmas play from the Columbia Marionette Theater, and then they had photos made with Santa and his elves.

Santa also spent the morning at “Isn’t It Grand!” At Bluff Road Park, grandparents and their grandchildren joined Santa for a boxed lunch, an amazing DJ, and TONS of activities, along with a Hot Chocolate Bar with something for everyone. The seniors at Parklane AAC came out dressed in their Christmas finest for dancing, lunch, raffles, and they got to meet Santa too! Finally, the Winter Carnival at Bluff Road Park provided activities, games and toys for participating families. Santa had so much fun celebrating with our patrons.

Jazz Fest

Spend the evening enjoying the sounds of jazz and a touch of soul at our 3rd Annual Jazz Fest. This outdoor concert offers a fun, vibrant street festival atmosphere, you are sure to love.

You will enjoy the music of the scintillating sax-tress, Jeanette Harris. With her chart -topping covers of “We Are One” and Stevie Wonder’s, “All I Do,” as well as countless other hits, Jeanette Harris has enough tunes to take you on a wonderful musical journey. Adding to the musical experience is guitarist Jmichael Peeples, Groove Masters Band will deliver soulful rhythms that will have you up and dancing, and Rod Foster & Company will keep you on your feet with your favorite jazz, soul, and R&B tunes.

MLK Day (January 17 Recognized January 15th)

Martin Luther King Day is an annual federal American holiday that celebrates the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It celebrates the life and achievements of this influential American civil rights leader.

National Volunteer Week (April 17th – 23rd)

This week is an opportunity to shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve, recognizing and thanking volunteers who lend their time, talents, and voice to make a difference in their communities.

Global Youth Service Day (April 29th – May 1st)

This day is a coordinated annual event which gathers young people from around the world to conduct community service, and service learning to benefit their communities, their countries, and the world. Activities are organized in more than 100 countries each April to help mark the celebrations, and engage millions, making it the largest annual celebration of young volunteers.

Join Hands Day (May 7th)

This event is about uniting the older generation with the younger generation in a day of volunteering. Instead of pointing out differences in each other, that often distance one another, this day is intended to bring to everyone’s awareness, the realization of how beneficial aiding each other can be.

Make a Difference Day (October 22nd)

It’s amazing what just a small effort by an individual or group of individuals can do to change the world, or at least their local neighborhood. Make a Difference Day was established to help encourage us to take one day a year to try to make a difference in the world.

National Family Volunteer Day (November 19th)

A day of service that demonstrates and celebrates the power of families who volunteer together, supporting their neighborhoods, communities, and the world.

Family Volunteer Day is held annually the Saturday before Thanksgiving to ‘kick off’ the holiday season with giving and service, and to signal the start of National Family Week.

Counselor In Training Program C.I.T.

(Applications are Accepted from March 1st - May 13th) This volunteer program is a great opportunity for youth ages 14-17 to join the parks and recreation team and learn how we operate and manage our summer programs. This opportunity is perfect for students looking to fulfill their service requirements for graduation. We are flexible with scheduling and location based on the needs of the departments and the needs of the applicants.

Baseball is a game of hand eye coordination! Learn how to catch/throw properly, swing the bat in a forceful manner, and learn the correct techniques to run bases.

The Little Lobbers Red Ball Tennis class is a great introduction into the sport of tennis for new players. RCRC 2 Ball Challenge

The RCRC 2Ball Challenge is hosted by RCRC Athletics and provides boys and girls ages 8-13 the opportunity to showcase their skills through shooting, rebounding, and teamwork in this co-op basketball challenge. Register with a friend or sign up to join another player as teams of 2 will have one minute to score as many points as possible, alternate shots, to win the title of the 2021 RCRC 2Ball Champions. Summer Youth Basketball

Ages 4-6 year olds participate in an instructional basketball league where kids are taught the fundamentals of the game.

Garden Party-March 16

How does your Garden Grow? Special guest Jackie Jordan, Richland County Master Gardener Coordinator, Horticulture Extension Agent, and panelist on SCETV’s Making It Grow will share her extensive knowledge of all things green with you at this very special gardening event.
