With its mission in mind, Upland Hills Health hospital and clinics, based in Dodgeville, is expanding quality healthcare services to meet patients where they are—in their own communities. Upland Hills Health (UHH) made exceptional progress toward this goal in 2018.

After working closely together for over 35 years, the Mineral Point Medical Center and Dodgeville Medical Center officially

became Upland Hills Health clinics on October 1, 2018. Upland Hills Health also purchased the former SSM Health-Dean clinic building in Barneveld in response to community need, and reopened it as a UHH family medicine clinic. Together with previously established clinics in Highland, Montfort, Mount Horeb and Spring Green, Upland Hills Health now offers clinics in seven communities.

“Mineral Point Medical Center has been part of our hospital family for decades,” Lisa Schnedler, President and CEO of Upland Hills Health, stated. “We will be

able to bring MPMC's best practices to UHH; offer patients the benefit of a unified medical record; and jointly meet physician recruitment needs. Together, we are stronger."

Schnedler explained that physicians and advance practice providers are being made available in clinics where need is greatest and UHH is recruiting additional providers. Two additional advanced practice nurse prescribers will start at UHH clinics in February, giving patients more choices and availability.

Patients of the Mineral Point and

Dodgeville Medical Centers of Upland Hills Health will enjoy the convenience of additional providers, expanded hours and more accepted insurance plans.

The most recent addition is Group Health Cooperative (GHC). In the coming months, the Mineral Point and Dodgeville Clinics of Upland Hills Health will see their phone systems upgraded and computer systems converted to the Epic electronic medical record system (EMR). The Epic EMR will streamline communication with many health organizations and specialty physicians.

New Look and Opportunities for PJ’s Pub Kieler Submitted by Jared Baker, Grant, Iowa, Lafayette Shopping News

A pair of Kieler residents have opened a new restaurant and bar at a familiar location in their hometown. Its owners, Pete Murphy and Julius Moor, remember going to that same property for burgers and sodas after sports games when they were kids. Murphy and Moor purchased the property March 1. Since then, they have done a “complete remodel” of the building. The building most recently housed Thums Up and Runde’s Bar and Hall before that.

Murphy said it is exciting for him and Moor to be at the helm of a new restaurant that has ties to their childhood.

Our long-term goal is to grow the current $95,000+ endowment (which covers paving maintenance commitment) to $440,000 so that eventually proceeds will fund our PCA coordinator position ($15,000/year). Donors to PCA have put forth a $10,000 Challenge Match to help us take another step-in raising Endowment Funds. Hence, any donation you put forth will be matched. PCA’s 125 + members, 85 active volunteers and 40 volunteers working 2 hours a week on the David Canny Rountree Branch Trail continue to sustain and enhance the $1.67 million-dollar 3 mile paved and lighted trail – a community asset treasured by many. The trail has increased the health consciousness of our community, increased pleasant social interaction and added yet another reason for businesses and families to visit or move to Platteville. This past year, Volunteers have planted 40 trees; installed 2 picnic tables; added a bike rack and picnic table platform; supported the grand opening & connection to the Mound View State Trail as our trails now connect from Platteville to Belmont; cleaned up the river after storm damage; added additional bat houses; and removed the usual mountains of dangerous invasive species from trail and river banks. PCA has also hired a part time coordinator to organize and

direct the volunteer maintenance and improvement of the trail.



The BARn Marks First Decade 2019 will mark 10 years that The BARn has been hosting events!

What started as a dairy barn that housed 50 cows has been transformed into a unique special events venue. The transformation began with friends and family members who helped in knocking down the cob webs and removing a lot of straw. The upper level held up to 10,000 bales of hay. Remaining materials were either left over or salvaged from construction jobs or refuse.

Community Group Begins Fundraising to Replace Art Hall in Legion Park

While the design is far from final the proposed event space would be approximately 6,000 square feet, double the size of the e isting facility. he proposed structured would include restrooms, a food service area, covered outdoor seating, storage, and heating – enabling the building to be used for events year round. he e isting rt Hall was constructed in the s. he unheated building is used during the summer months for family reunions, graduation parties, corporate gatherings, church retreats, and larger community festivities such as the Kiwanis Chicken Dinner, Southwest Health Berry Fest, and Platteville Dairy Days. In May 2018, Lancaster Dental Associates expanded their dental clinics when they opened their second clinic, Fennimore Smiles of LDA, with the expansion to a new building in the Fennimore Business Park. Located, at 1515 LaFollette Street, the main level of the new clinic is a 2600 sq. ft. facility.

All communities across the nation utilizing HUD funds for homeless and housing programs are required to conduct a count of unsheltered and sheltered individuals and/or families experiencing homelessness during a designated 24 hour period in their area.
