Vision
To be a dynamic platform engaged in contemporary dialogue and the promotion of the art and artists of Zimbabwe.
Objectives
Our main objectives are to create a dynamic platform engaged in contemporary dialogue and to promote the visual arts and artistic practices in Zimbabwe.

HISTORY
artHARARE was established in 2020 by established Zimbabwean visual artist Richard Mudariki. The 2020 inaugural online launch of artHARARE showcased over thirty leading artists from Zimbabwe, South Africa, France, the UK, Canada, and the United States. In 2021, artHARARE featured thirty-one artists who responded to Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, as a catalyst and incubator for relational aesthetics between art and the city. This online exhibition and program was curated by Dr. Mike Mavura from the Stellenbosch Triennale.
As the art world began to return to normal by 2022, artHARARE started collaborating with international galleries, artist collectives, curators, and art fairs to showcase leading contemporary artists from Zimbabwe. artHARARE has presented Zimbabwean contemporary art at prestigious international events, including the Investec Cape Town Art Fair (Cape Town, South Africa, 2024), Also Known As Africa Art and Design Fair (Paris, France, 2023), 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair (New York, USA, 2024), 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair (London, UK, 2023), and in collaboration with international galleries such as OSArt Gallery in Milan (Italy) and Barnard Gallery in Cape Town.
Launched during the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic, artHARARE has thrived where many might have struggled. It has been instrumental in launching the careers of emerging artists practicing in Zimbabwe and its diaspora. Over the past few years, artHARARE has been recognised as the leading and authoritative platform for guiding art collectors and enthusiasts interested in contemporary art from Zimbabwe. The platform has advised numerous collectors from the UK and the USA, helping them fill gaps in their African art collections.

Current Funding Status and Gaps
artHARARE has been established and sustained through a combination of private funds and grant funding from various partners. The platform's income is primarily generated through commissions on art sales facilitated via its website and its international activities at art fairs. Additional revenue streams include the sale of art-related products such as the Art World passport and stickers, as well as fees for participating in talks and panels.
Despite these efforts, there are significant funding gaps that need to be addressed to ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the platform. The current financial model, while effective for these past initial operations, does not fully support the expanding scope and scale of the platform’s programs and activities. There is a pressing need for increased core operational finances to build a more robust infrastructure that can support a larger, more experienced team and enhance our program delivery.
Specific Funding Needs and Priorities
One of the primary funding needs is to secure core operational finances. This includes funding for administrative costs, salaries for key staff members, and resources to enhance operational efficiency. Investing in a talented and experienced team of curators is crucial for managing and expanding artHARARE’s diverse range of programs and activities.
As artHARARE continues to grow, there is a need for additional funding to expand existing programs and develop new initiatives. This includes increasing the number of exhibitions per year, enhancing educational programs, and creating more opportunities for artist residencies and international collaborations. To maintain and grow its audience, we require funds for marketing and outreach efforts, including promoting our exhibitions, expanding digital presence through social media and online platforms, and engaging with international art communities to attract more artists and art collectors www.artharare.com
Continued support for our initiatives like the artHARARE Art Prize is essential. Sponsorship and funding is needed to ensure that these programs can reward and promote emerging and mid-career artists, providing them with significant opportunities for professional development and international exposure.
